Facebook connect

  • Hi ! I saw that there was a WordPress Facebook connect plugin.

But it creates a profil page wich is conflictual with Buddypress’s ones, and more over it is not usable with Buddy press. But wuth little work it coul de used (and usefull !) with buddypress :

the invite friends and connecting with facebook login are really great for a community.

Is there a way to implement Facebook connect with Buddypress ?

Will an official plugin will be released, or is someone planning to make a facebook connect plugin for buddy press ? If I knew how to code I would make it myself … :(

    Thanks for your answers ;)

  • I would love to see this too – I tried the plugin on a regular WP blog and works awesome.

Can you clarify…does this plug-in work with BuddyPress/WPMU? The installation instructions seem to be for WordPress in general, not MU. And I saw in another forum that this plug-in breaks WPMU.

Can you verify that it works with BuddyPress? If so, can you provide installation instructions?

    Thanks.

If it doesn’t require too time, i’ll adapt it for bp

That’s great! When you’ve looked into how much time it might take, can you let us know when it might be available? Thanks for all of your good work.

That would be great – I really would love a good connection between BP and facebook…

How would this work for BP? does it mean a user from FB can login and start using BP or what?

So if this sixjump works can it just enable it on wordpress and it should work for BP

If this kind of plugin would exist for bp, then after the first login, it should redirect people to a page where they should fill in the additional information fields created by the admin and displayed on the sign-up page.

This plugin creates a user in WP with subscriber privileges – doesnt even store their email, It DOES NOT create any BP user extra fields or anything, so they do not even show up as real users in BP

If it creates a user in WordPress then it will show up in BuddyPress. BuddyPress is using the wp_users table.

Okay, I’m still confused…does this plug-in actually work with WPMU/BP or not? Please clarify. Thanks!!!

Unless you find someone who has tried it and replies, you are best to search google or try it yourself to find out ;)

Okay, I installed it on the main site page (as a WP plug-in, not MU plug-in). With plug-in installed, the top bar (My Account, My Blogs, etc.) does not appear. Interaction with Facebook works somewhat, for example it is possible to invite Facebook friends to the blog. However, the login doesn’t seem to work well, and there is no logout option.

This has potential but must work nicely. Can someone advise how to get it working in WPMU?

    Thanks.

I also tried the plug-in on a clean WPMU install without BuddyPress. And some of the same issues happened there too.

Nicola, do you still have any interest in adapting this plug-in to work with WPMU? I don’t know how much time it would take, but I think this would be a HUGE feature for BP. The “Invite Friends” feature is slick. (That’s one thing that does work.)

    Thanks,

    Mark

I read someone’s forum post elsewhere saying that the plug in should theoretically work with WPMU, however, for some reason something isn’t being created properly in the wp_users table or something like that. The user reported running the mySQL directly in phpMyAdmin, and saying that this fixed the problem. But I don’t know how to do that.

I’m just offering this in hopes that it helps someone (smarter than me) to help this plug-in work in WPMU.

    Thanks,

    Mark

The real question would probably be; How can I help get this plugin MU/BP-ready?

@Nicola, whats feature do we expect from this FB-connect?

A quote “This plugin creates a user in WP with subscriber privileges – doesnt even store their email, It DOES NOT create any BP user extra fields or anything, so they do not even show up as real users in BP” from jmax123.

Would your plugin overcome this drawback?

    @nicolagreco

it is basically based on FB-connect,

it adds users, it give them subscriver privilege, it stores maybe or e-mail or update you via facebook, it creates bp user extra fields, it make user as a normal bp user,

    Nicola

I don’t want that you pay me code, i want paid only the work :D
