For Problems Or Broken Things With The Recent BuddyPress.Org Redesign
-
As you can see, @apeatling has done a fantastic job redesigning this website! If you find a problem or something broken, please post here and let us know.
Thanks

If I understand what’s happening, the forums summaries blocks (for lack of a better description) in /support change their order based on where the most recent comments occurred. That’s kind of a useability nightmare, not knowing from visit to visit where things are going to be located on the page.
Edit: I’m not even sure what’s happening. My head’s a-spinnin’ trying to find stuff that was nearly muscle memory, having spent so much time on this site in the past.
I’m pleased that the site is using the latest BP, but man, it is really hard to find stuff you need to find. Harder — and I didn’t think this would be possible — that it was before, even. Patience, though, I know — presumably it will get better.
One thing that I think is really being pointed up here is how weak the forums component (the most useful component for us as developers/users of this site) is, and how much work can be done (through plugins, thus far, but that kind of makes the core look a bit weak if a dozen plugins are being used on the showcase site) to make the forums experience better.
That spotlight on places where there is room for improvement can’t be a bad thing, I hope, but it sure makes using the new site frustrating so far, and I’ve been working with BP for my own sites for almost a year, so I’m familiar with its quirks already. New users? I can’t help but think they’d be a little put off.
Never mind about the permalink to forum post thing 3 comments up. I found the # under the Activity stream item. You’d think after using this thing so long I’d know where stuff is. (or maybe it was just added )
That said, in the /support view, ‘Latest’ (beside the link to the last poster’s profile) should be a link to the latest page/post. Clicking into the thread then having to click the last page in the pagination div is suboptimal. Also, there really ought to be a pagination div at the bottom of the page as well.
Could we get some ordering filters (alphabetic, BP version compatibility, recently updated…?) and maybe the option to Show (20/50/All) on the Plugins directory? That’d be most useful!
https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ links to individual themes are not working.
yup, i second some of these previous comments and I’ll miss my lost my “activity” which, for me acted as bookmarks in the forums, however.. on a positive note I will certainly give a thumbs up to the seemingly improved page load times and the new topics layout in lieu of the old forums.
I’m getting the ol’ duplicate activity stream items bug when you hit on the “Load More” button in the activity stream.
It’s something to do with cookies. If I clear them, the problem resolves itself.
I’m seeing the same as r-a-y
whats the correct way to post code in the forums now? can’t seem to get anything to work.
“Works fine for me in Chrome. Might be browser caching.”
Cleared the cache and it’s good in Google Chrome now. Interesting that it did that. My bad.
Forum topics get bumped up in the sitewide activity stream after editing the forum topic.
This doesn’t happen on testbp.org.
Please, please re-enable Forum Index.
I used to be able to check in many times per day and automatically figure out what discussions were new/updated. Now the site seems very balkanized and hard to follow.
The amount of traffic on buddypress.org/forums (now /community) is still low enough that a “snapshot” view of forum topics makes sense.
Case in point: it took me 2 days to find this thread, whereas on the old site, I would have seen the new thread pop up right away at the top of the forum index page.
Links in emails when someone replys on the activity stream aren’t working, just redirect to the activity stream.
On the /support/topics/ index page, it would be nice if there was a way to link to the latest post in the thread.
@el_terko discovered that too-long topic titles break permalinks (#s) in the activity stream. Try clicking the permalink for any of the “promiscuous” topic items in the activity stream and it links you to a year- old thread.
So that’s what happened to me a couple of times!
So much frustration trying to use these forums.
Seriously, just to repeat myself, can I suggest #158EAF or something a little darker for the color of a:links? This low contrast stuff is killing me.
Very, very nice work with the re-design.
I was apprehensive about updating to the newest version of BuddyPress- especially since I was pretty satisfied with the old version. And when the new look hit I was again a bit anxious about how different it appeared. However, after test-driving it for a few days with other members of my family, I – we – are really, really impressed with all the improvements and new features. Simply put, it rocks.
Thank you for all your hard work, for taking Buddy Press so seriously, and for sharing such a fantastic product with us!@3sixty begged: “Please, please re-enable Forum Index. “
+1 !!!!!!!!!I reckon that the /support/topics page should be looking a lot more like this, for useability: http://forum.buddypress-it.it/
OK, because I’ve been moaning so much, I will say that the ajax filter by clicking on a tag in the cloud, filtering the view of every section in /support, is kind of nice.
One thing I’d love to know how to do is get that ‘Click here to clear the filter’ item in the sidebar, too…
Also, the new comprehensive search is sooooo much better than before. WANT!

Goes to a support forum?Edit: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-maps/
Goes to a different plugin? Please please put back ‘my activity’ content and ‘my posts’ content as its now completely empty, I cannot find any of the posts I used to look at and reference from my previous posts.
I have tried trawling on here but cannot find some of them.
I think the redesign is O.K., but the most noticeable issue is the light blue text on the white background. It is REALLY hard to read. Definitely not something I would do on my own sites.

In Firefox (and I think other browsers) you can override the stylesheet using an add-on to make it the color you like.
