    Hi,

Check your buddypress settings (pages tab) in wp admin,

make sure that Register and Activate pages are created, else create new pages, select them as Register and Activate pages then save.

    Hey,

Thanks for the prompt reply:) I have changed got all those pages live and assigned:
    http://www.foodpantry.co.nz/register
    http://www.foodpantry.co.nz/activate

I have also checked the option to allow anyone to subscribe in the general settings of wordpress.
But I still can’t get login or register etc to appear anywhere on the site.

You need to log-out of wordpress completely to see those pages…

Since the beginning I have been viewing all changes – logged out and in a chrome incognito page, still no links:(

I’m not clear about the problem. Are you referring to links on the WP admin bar which doesn’t appear on your page?

Have you tried changing to another theme to see if that fixes it? Twentytwelve is supposed to work properly with the new buddypress v 1.7 … If it does then you need to talk to the people that made the commercial theme.

Sometimes plugins or code in bp-custom.php can interfere with things…

I’m new to buddypress but believed a login and register link would be placed in the header by default?
So any new users coming to the site would be able to access these to either login or register.

However, instead do I need to insert my own links or buttons within the header.php to make this work?

I will have a try with twenty twelve and see what happens.

Not by default. It depends on the the design by theme author.

Yes. You would need to create those. See lines 8 through 59 of https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.7/bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php for code. Then adjust style to taste.

Thank you @mercime! All sorted, now I can play round with some basic styling:)
