Go in and delete the BuddyPress folder in /wp-content/plugins. You might want to back it up before you delete it if you need something in it.

i can’t get in at all. not by going to cacv.ca

@techguy is correct… You have to delete or MOVE/RENAME the wp-content/plugins folder.

In order to rectify this you WILL not be able to go in through WordPress since it’s “bricked”. You will have to go in through a FTP program like FILEZILLA. You may need to get your account information for using FTP from your service provider. Once WordPress doesn’t find the folder, it will automatically de-activated all the plugins and you will be able to get back in.

You can avoid this in the future by disabling all plugins before you disable the Buddypress plugin.

You can also likely to get into it through your hosts control panel (something like cpanel) and then go to a file manager where you can rename the buddypress folder. I forgot…rename is good too.

auto-group-join plugin should have deactivated itself, thought Andy had banged on about the importance of plugins checking for BuddyPress sufficiently?

For future reference and to play absolutely safe the best practice when deactivating BP is to FIRST deactivate all BP reliant plugins BEFORE finally deactivating BP

OK so I went to cpanel. found the buddypress folder and renamed it as buddypressnot… Now, when I go to cacv.ca NOTHING shows up.
I *do* appreciate the quick responses, but still need help…

I’ve now deleted all the buddypress and bp plug-in files – but when I go to cacv.ca – BLANK. oh, my goodness.

Could it have something to do with the fact I chose a buddypress theme and it’s trying to access that but can’t? I’ve now deleted almost all of the plug-ins – everything I’ve knowingly added recently, but still – absolutely blank when I go to cacv.ca.

So.. I renamed the buddypress theme and buddypress theme widget by adding a “1” at the end, hoping that might do something… still blank.

Thought you might have deleted the actual WP install, but it appears to still be there, what happens when/if you try and login at /wp-admin/ white screen again?

Just to be safe rename the actual plugins folder itself so that any possible plugins are definitely prevented from running. if you have deleted the BP folder in plugins the default theme will also be removed and WP would revert back to stock default (there are no other BP child themes in /wp-content/themes/ are there?)

Are any of these a problem: bb-config.php default-widgets.php plug-in php

Not sure , in what way? why do you ask about these specific files? what has prompted the question? error messages?

thank you hnla!!! I’m in!! whew! that was soooooooooooo scary.

Don’t leave others in the dark that may be having the same issue, it helps if you can just briefly summarize how you eventually got things corrected. Were there still bp plugins hanging around in plugins folder? did you rename the whole plugins folder?
