Newbie: how-to generate username as randomized number

Hi, could anyone outline how I would generate random usernames for new signups, as a number formatted as XXX-XXX? I’d like to have formatted numbers as usernames rather than usernames created by users, but passwords created by users. Also, I’d like to have as part of the core profile group a location which would use the gPress plugin for example. Also, can I remove the email address as part of the core (required) profile information? I’m using SI CAPTCHA in the registration to prevent spam, but I see no need to have users provide an email address for what I’m doing. Thanks for any help!
Is there a free or premium theme that I could use for all this configuration?
