Stalking-Admin View PM?

    Hello,

    We are running a membership site with BuddyPress installed. Recently some of our members complained against a particular brother who was allegedly “stalking” some of the gals on our membership site. Realizing different people from different backgrounds and cultures have different ideas about appropriate and inappropriate behavior, is there a way an Admin can view any specific private messages, perhaps using FTP? We are not wanting to allow bad behavior but want to confirm it is happening before disciplining a member inappropriately or empower false reporting.

    Can this be done?

    You could use a tool like phpmyadmin to directly view the database – which is where the messages are stored, not in ‘ftp’.

    You could write an admin tool that allows you to view messages.

    @bfreed As super/site admin, you should be able to view all the undeleted sent/received messages of any/all your members from the frontend of your site. Why do you want to use FTP or phpmyadmin instead?

    @mercime – really? How? I can’t.
    Adding /messages to another member’s page results in viewing my own messages, even though the page header is for that member.

    Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

    My question is given the scenario above, can it be done and if so how do I do it? I cannot find a place to do this via the super-admin dashboard options. Which method works for you?

    @shanebp
    The same thing happens for me when I put their …username/messages/inbox into the URL, I see my own messages. Once I find a place to learn about where to find and how to use phpmyadmin, where do I look for the specific database?

    When you open phpmyadmin, you should see a list of databases.
    There might only be one database.
    You’ll find the name of your database in your wp-config.php

    There is now a free plugin that allows site admins to view messages.
    You can get it here: http://www.philopress.com/products/bp-messages-tool/
    And it will be in the WP plugin repo soon.
