Username exposed on the profil

    Hi,
being fairly new to bp I wonder whether the following is intentional. Being concerned with privacy I have all users of my side choose a (bp)name different from the username to protect usernames from being published. This intention is, however, overridden by bp showing the username in the profil as @username. Is this changable? Otherwise there does not make sense to have different bp names and usernames.

Up-to-date wordpress, buddypress, and several other plugins at
    mysite

    Regards
    Bernhard

    Hi,
I do agree and would like to see a possibility to change the exposed name on screen. It it not practical to have the username exposed and the users do recognize their buddies better by using the real or the nickname. How can this be done?

How is this different than Twitter, where my username is my @mention name? Although I agree that the Display Name and Username can cause confusion, you could tact in the opposite direction and embrace the username with something like this: https://github.com/r-a-y/buddypress-usernames-only

I do not use Twitter. When I register for a WordPress website, I do not realize that the username will be revealed in BuddyPress. I prefer to see my username as part of the login secret and I think many of my BuddyPress friends will feel the same. I would like to see a setting that makes it possible to use the real name or the nickname on screen as is the case for comments to postings in WordPress. Or a plugin to do so.
