The release candidate version of BuddyPress 1.2 is now ready for download and testing (svn link). Thank you to those who have contributed so far, we’ve closed over 125 tickets since we released the beta last week.
We’re almost there, but we still need your help with this final testing phase. We’re looking for testers on both standard WordPress and WordPress MU version 2.9.1 and above. You can also test the release candidate without installing on our testing community site.
As before you can find a list of known issues and a place to post bugs via the BuddyPress Trac installation.
There are also instructions for upgrading test installations from previous versions of BuddyPress on the codex.
Please do not post bugs in the comments as they may be missed.
Update: If you’re upgrading from 1.2 beta then you can simply overwrite your existing BuddyPress files, you do not need to follow the official upgrade instructions.
Awesome potatoes – will get to testing it right away 😀
Good work Andy!
Already translated into Russian for our ru_RU community.
So will be testing!

Kick ass! You rock 🙂
Andy, JJJ,
take your time !
Better give it one more week and have it super-stable.
Many thanks for all your efforts !
Yay says Ray!
Excellent! I’m really looking forward to this release. Thanks to everyone who worked on it!
You guys are on fire! It’s great too see such rapid development on this project.
let the battle of the themes commence! =P
Congrats to @andy and @jjj
Very nice!
Currently testing … not finding any new issues.
Looks good on a (single user) WP/buddyPress test site! Not seeing any issues so far.

for some reason I can’t unzip this. I also couldn’t unzip the 1.2 Beta either. because of the inclusion of the mac created files it causes an error when i try to unzip the folder using the default windows vista unzip program.
any ideas. would love to test this out.
sorry if i sound like a complete noob
If I am upgrading from the 1.2 beta to the 1.2 RC1 can I just replace the buddypress folder in plugins or do I have to follow the upgrade procedure from 1.1 > 1.2?
Thanks
@Benny: If you’re upgrading from 1.2-beta then you can just overwrite the files.
Wow! What a surprise gift… to have BuddyPress ready before WP 3.0 launches! 🙂
Just like chipbennett, I haven’t encountered any issue yet — using (single) WP 3.0-alpha — and am very happy to continue playing around with it going forward.
And @James Sloane: I, too, experienced similar issues when opening up Mac-generated ZIP files. Now with Vista Ultimate SP2, however, it works just fine.
Sweetness. Installing now!
Mac Zip files cause errors on Windows, you’ll need to open the zip, delete all the macOS files (these are usually the ones that are 0kb). and then unzip, this will fix the problem.
This is really moving right along! I am looking forward to trying it out once it gets the bugs out. I have a hyper-local website concept that I am working on, but do not want to get stuck out in the open with components that do not sync. Hope to see development in more themes.
If you’re having problems with the zip you can use the zip link at the bottom of this page:
https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.2-rc/
However, you will need to download bbPress separately and drop it into /bp-forums/bbpress/ if you want to use the forums component.
In the 1.2 Beta, the translations don’t work on the activity stream. This bug is fixed on the RC or the final release?
[ ]’s.
Is there a way to require login to access the site, including subpages?
So let me get this straight, I’m new to Buddy press but have been using WordPress for a while now. Can this be installed on a standard WordPress installation??
Yes, you can install the 1.2RC on standard WordPress, but not versions earlier than 1.2. This is not the final version.
works great!
does anyone know if ‘bp_friend_total_for_member’ is gone? doesn’t work anymore 🙁
Thank you Marcus Hochstadt. upgrading to Vista SP2 fixed my unzipping issue.
And thanks to everyone else who offered help. this is exactly why i love the wordpress (buddypress + bbpress) community. everyone is so nice and helpful
Andy, thanks for all your efforts thus far. You are doing a great job. Any clue when guys going to improve the interaction between BuddyPress & bbPress (specifically multiple bbPress installs)
Don’t take this the wrong way but this whole ‘Groups’ thing is way more confusing than it needs to be and there doesn’t appear to be a way to make it work with multiple separate bbPress forum installs.
When will there be a way to display folks’ bbPress activity when dealing with multiple bbPress forums? (example, JoeSmith made a forum post in integrated bbPressForum1.com, Sally made a forum post in integrated bbPressForum2.com.)
This problem is KILLING ME!!!

Chris: That will probably never happen since it’s overkill for 99% of people. You should look at writing a plugin extension.
[…] BuddyPress reached Release Candidate status this week. Get BP rc-1 over here (zip). […]
Hi, I am testing latest buddypress with wp 2.9.1 (not MU) and there is no “create new group” link anywhere in frontend. I am using default theme. Did you also encounter this?
Thanks Andy…REALLY appreciate your input on how things will develop.
Haha, I would write you a plugin but you would probably want it to actually work 😉
(I’m nowhere near a plugin developer)
Hi there,
I met Matt M. in Calgary a few weeks ago. He recommend I try you for this. My company is looking for an expert on Buddy Press that we can interview for a tele training, Would you possibly be interested/available for this, or perhaps know someone who may. Thanks so much!
