Yes – we eventually figured out that it was the server. We tested different virtual servers in the lab and now run on Linux as that one seemed to work best. Way too many problems with our first one anyway (Windows). Hope this helps!
WP 3.5.1
BP 1.8.1
BP Default ThemeAdmin Bar Disabler
bbPress
Bp Force Profile
Buddydrive
BuddyPress
BuddyPress Activity Stream Hashtags
BuddyPress Group Email Subscription
BuddyPress Group Extras
Erident Custom Login and Dashboard
Ultimate TinyMCEWould updating WP to 3.6 help solve this problem?
Also, I did try activating a plugin that I realized was not optimized for BP (WP-only). Could that have been the problem?
Update: bad news! Now when I try to get my site-wide activity RSS:
XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
Location: http://mysite/activity/feed/
Line Number 1, Column 2: <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>
-^Any advice please?
Great news, @modemlooper. Any updates for us?? Really looking forward to seeing what you come up with! 🙂
@alexanderh BuddyDrive is definitely the way to go here!
Yes I can @hnla – no problems uploading media.
I will check the settings with my host. Is this the part of the codex to which you are referring or is there something more specific?
Thanks for the reply @mercime. Not multisite, and I’m admin but not super admin. I’ve disabled the “Members” plugin to no avail. Did not create any other admin-type accounts. This is the error I get when I attempt to delete a plugin:
“Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) plugin.php.”
The reason I think it’s the server is I’ve been having a terrible time trying to get the RSS feeds to work. No plugin works at all, and the WP feeds on my dashboard only display:
“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: couldn’t connect to host”
“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to 2607:f8b0:4006:803::1014: Network is unreachable”Additionally, I am unable to connect to download new plugins or themes from the dashboard. We recently moved to a Linux server as our Windows server was acting all wonky. Is this the root of the problem, and do you have any advice on what the super admin can do to change it? We’re totally stuck.
WP 3.5.1
BP 1.7Thank you @r-a-y!!
Yes @nomad-one, mine are starting to have mood swings as well. Fickle things!! The individual group feeds I had feeding into my reader have stopped working, and now can’t get any more valid feeds registered at all from the site. Just can’t figure out what to do…
Question: do the WP RSS feeds on your dashboard work?
Reference: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/no-rss-feeds-are-coming-in/Sounds like maybe there’s some structural BP issues here? I’m equally as desperate to get these to work…how can we figure this out? Or are we S.O.L. until the next BP update??
I’m having similar problems with the RSS feeds not working. Can you give a bit more detail as to how you solved the problem? Append the activation key to the feed URL?? I’m not using the “Membership” plugin.
I think I’m having the same problem but you seem to have far more server-end know-how than I do, so if you were lost…
Any advice or head start you can give me and the lucky IT guy I find to help me find out why all the RSS feeds are broken (dashboard and front-end)? Looking for white space in bp-custom.php?
+1
Thanks @mercime. I guess I’m just wondering which one would be “easier” to do from a technical standpoint: add the functionality to the current BP plugin or migrate an existent WP plugin with the exact functionality I’m looking for.
I’ve tried External Group Blogs as well – which would work great for goal #2 listed above – but the added functionality with RSS Multi Importer would just be perfect (posting via aggregated “categories” in different spaces on the site).

@hallsy, here are some possible solutions. Please let me know if either of these work for you:

https://buddypress.org/support/topic/issues-getting-buddypress-working/Were either of these solutions similar to what you did, @watercolourz?
Yes please, I’m also without a Create Group button! How did you solve it?
Thanks for all the help everyone.
James, are you now able to see the “Forum Setup” tab in Settings > BuddyPress? Was this part of the server problem or was it an issue with not having bbPress enabled?
Great to hear!! Could you give me details please so I can try something similar?
I was going to suggest it might be a server problem.
Give it a go and let me know what happens! Cheers.
Thanks for your help, bphelp. I noticed that I don’t have the “Forum Setup” tab in Settings > BP (only Components, Pages, and Settings).
I’ve got tons of 404 errors as well, especially when I try to access any of the links under the main page menu (under “Howdy, <user>!” – Activity, Groups, Settings, Profile, and Forums are all dead ends). James, does yours look the same?
Yes, I’m having the exact same problem. Seems like we’re not the only ones. Here’s a possible solution?

I don’t have access to the server side of things for my site (grr) so please let me know if that manages to work for you James. I don’t see why that should still be an issue if you switch back to the BP Default theme, but give it a shot.
Thanks luccame, looking into that now. Figured switching back to BP Default would fix it but seems not to be the case.
I also cannot create any groups. BP settings allow group creation, but no “Create a Group” button on the group directory.
BP 1.7, bbPress 2.3. Any guidance really appreciated.
