In reply to: Theme Question… Proper Structure for a Theme?
“and I modify the buddypress files shown in theme editor to add things like an addition sidebar and such.”
This is why your changes get blown away.
If you need to modify the original files for a child theme, don’t.

Take a copy of that file, add it to the child theme folder, make your mods there.
No, the bp defaul theme uses a function to call the main BP site. You need to replace it with the standard wp function to get blog_url.
In reply to: Users selecting BuddyPress theme for their blogYou can disable themes under Site Admin -> Themes. It;s built in, no plugin.
In reply to: Integrate certain plugins into custom themes? That’s pretty much the process used on regualr WP themes that include plugins built in.
In reply to: Buddypress/buddymatic issue“This is the same for Sense and Sensibility, btw. white screen o’ death “
Did you have BuddyPress activated before you switched to S&S? If not, that’s why.
In reply to: Buddypress/buddymatic issueUgh.
okay, I shall test again.
In reply to: Using the Speed themeHave you tried asking the theme author? She has a complete support forum for her themes.
In reply to: I gave buddypress a try“I really do like WordPress/Buddypress, I am just unable to structure the forums in buddypress in a true forum layout.”
If you’re just looking for a forum, then look at bbpress or any other forum package. BuddyPress has its focus on the social networking aspects. the forums area are minimized on purpose.
It sounds like you want a just a forum, not BuddyPress.
In reply to: Too much trafficHosts that offer unlimited bandwidth usually put a cap on CPU proceses. I’m betting that’s where they caught you.
If you really have that little members, find a new host.
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0Ah, okay. I know there were issues with this 2-3 weeks ago. I’ll see if I can go find out what’s up.
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0Which version of WP out of trunk did you use? Was it from the last 2-3 weeks?
Did you create a new page and apply that page template to it?
Though I woudl really go the route of using the widget logic plugin.
I know you just marked this as resolved, but isn’t the original question basically you wanted to use the My Page Order plugin to control how the tabs look in the default theme? The tabs with links to the BuddyPress areas?
Those are not page titles. Likely will never be seen as such.
If you want to restrict aces, then use a privacy plugin for BP.
The page ordering plugin shoudl still work just fine on the regualr WP pages, or when 3.0 comes out, you’ll have that functionality (if andy adds it to the theme).
In reply to: Can any WP-Theme be converted into a BP-Theme?Having run though a number of themes, yes. Some are more complicated than others though.
In reply to: A small feature for 1.3It is definitely a theme thing. Same as the way the custom header has to be declared in the theme itself for it to be accessible in the backend.
In reply to: Buddypress/buddymatic issueBlank screen = errors.
Go in via ftp, delete the theme. Then make sure you have the absolute latest version of the theme and the latest version of BP.
In reply to: Hide Plugins from WPMU usersYou can hide the entire Plugins menu under the Site Admin -> Options page. there’s a checkbox. you, the site admin, can still see it though.
In reply to: I need helpLook at the html source of the page. He’s made 3 columns with css. Each one pulls a custom loop pulling posts from a particular category.
It’s purely theme dev here. You may have more success searching elsewhere for this particular technique used in WordPress themes in general.
In reply to: Spam, Spam and more spam/.*\.info/
that might work. it was buggy at one point.
In reply to: BuddyPress Template PackThere’s also /members/single/home.php
In reply to: please come and help meYou don’t have permalinks enabled.
In reply to: Spam, Spam and more spamThat string is also translatable, meaning you can replace it. Doesn’t have to be with another language.
In reply to: Spam, Spam and more spam“It’s not any ONE fully qialified domain for me… it’s dozens of different domains all ending in .info.”
Yeah, I know, Believe me, we’ve gone around in circles over that one issue in the mu forums.
I’ll have to dig up the command.A lot of plugins like hascash are recommended because they work. I see a lot of people not try them because they think it’s just for comments. On most sites I’ve tried it on, it just works.
In reply to: bunch of ideas….“as far as the forum, many people have well established forums with 1000s of posts and members so they cant just ditch them. “
Isn’t there a way in the backend of BP to hitch it up to an exisiting forum? I’ve always set up a new one, but the choice is definitely there to use an existing bbpress install.
In reply to: Spam, Spam and more spamThat won’t harm anything, but it won’t stop signups from that domain, just requests.
In MU, there *is* an option to block certain email domains. There’s a funny way to put in wildcards though.
