Thanks for your update, it’s a bit weird.. have you deactivated a BP plugin or disabled the Post Comment option of the Activity panel in the settings screen ?

    Hi @teeboy4real

Thanks a lot for your report, I’ve seen this issue lately:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/9010

As you will see, it looks like some custom code/plugin is filtering the $activity_type to be an array instead of a string.

I wasn’t able to reproduce it, but, I’m going to reopen the ticket and check again as I’m not sure I tested with a post comment.

    I’ll keep you updated.

Thanks @earl_d & @awol for these new feedbacks. We’ll definitely look into the ActivityPub plugin and see how we can bridge with it.

About features, our direction is to shrink BP Core as « short » as possible and to move optional components into distinct Add-on just like the BP Attachments one. But the goal is also to keep the freedom to create as much Add-ons maintained by the BP Core Team as needed to build communities.

We want users to have more choices and choosing this new organization where we treat ourselves equally compared to third party plugin developers will help us get the same freedom they have : build what they thing is nice to have. With a big Core, we somehow restrict our creativity, I believe.

    Hi,

This is probably due to the fact that historically account are created on regular (in the sense of not multisite configs) sites.

We introduced since 2.0 a specific constant to skip this account creation, I advise to add it to your WP config file:

    define( 'BP_SIGNUPS_SKIP_USER_CREATION', true );

    Thanks for your feedback ☺️.

This is something we should add I agree. We’ll work on it for the next major release (not 12.0 as we’re close to dev cycle end, but next one).

    Hi,

Thanks for posting on the subject, in your opinion how should the « my » be set ?

Should we include an autocomplete control to select the user we wish to list the group they’re a member of ?

Or should it be made dynamic: eg list the ones of a displayed user/logged in user ?

    Hi @awol

About the reply button, I believe it’s due to your discussions settings. You need to allow threaded comments.

    Discussions settings

About the issue with BP Classic and missing Dynamic Member nav items when not viewing a member, we’ve discussed about it during our latest dev chat, and I was able to replicate the issue. I’ll fix it soon.

@punkaun Thanks a lot for your feedback and for confirming BP Classic is a possible plan B 😍.

@awol I’ve just tested there are no issues for me with BP 12 + BP Classic and Menu Administration Screen or front-end generated menus. When BP 12.0 performs its upgrade task, it transforms regular pages into custom post types. So I feel if you create a menu with these post types, you probably need to remove first the menu item and add it again once BP Classic is active, have you tried this ?

PS: I’d like to have time to contact every possible Theme authors, unfortunately I cannot take this road, sorry.

    Hi @punkaun

Thanks a lot for your 2 messages. I’ll see if we can take in charge this URL schema in 12.0.0.

The second one is a bug we do need to tackle.

Could you do some additional testing?
    – Come back to BuddyPress 11.3.1
    – Make sure the directory pages are children of one of your WordPress pages.
    – Activate BP Classic (BP Classic is a backwards compatibility plugin that neutralizes the BP Rewrites API to use our legacy API instead)
    – Upgrade to 12.0.0-beta3

Is this preserving your URL set up ?

    Hi @awol,

Here’s the full list of 12.0.0 deprecated functions: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/src/bp-core/deprecated/12.0.php

You’ll see that if the BP Classic Add-on is active, a lot of these won’t show as this plugin is bringing backwards compatibility for plugins which are not ready yet for 12.0.0. If you’re getting the deprecated notice, then it means you need BP Classic to carry on using the plugin which is causing the notice.

    Hi @awol

I just tested Blocksy and BP 12.0.0-beta3. About activity comments/replies, it behaves as expected:

    BP 12 & Blocksy Theme

I’ve also checked WP Nav Menus (Member links & directory links). It also behaves as expected.

If you still have issues, you’ll need to deactivate all plugins but BuddyPress, then reactivate plugins one by one to identify the one causing the issue.

@awol I’m not sure whether david00116 is a spammer or not. One of their messages was clearly a spam.

I’ll test Blocksy again with BP 12.0 to see if I can reproduce the activity comment/reply issue.

    Hi @valuser

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I just discovered it now because it was hidden into the moderating queue (probably due to all the links you shared).

It’s very important news you confirmed everything is safe when BP Classic is activated. Thanks a billion for this information.

BP Attachments has been updated to 1.2.0, as 1.1.0 was causing issues with regular pages, that probably explains the problem you got with Sabai. It should be fine now.

I feel a bit bad about the fact BuddyDrive is not ready for 12.0.0 (as I was the creator of this plugin). I’ll try to find the time to suggest a PR to the plugin maintainer.

I’ll have a look at BP Idea Stream asap!

Thanks again for your help 😍

    Hi @awol

I’ve just tested with BP 12.0.0-beta2 (no other plugins), having the Twenty Twenty-Two theme active, it works as expected see screenshots below:

    Being and admin:
    Admin

    Being a regular user:
    Regular user

Otherwise, please let’s stick to the topic! Topic is: making sure BP 12.0 behaves the best way with no regression comparing to 11.3.1.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi @teeboy4real

I believe most errors were notice errors as we deprecated a lot of functions in 12.0.0. I got in touch with @r-a-y he will review my PR soon https://github.com/r-a-y/buddypress-followers/pull/126 and we’ll work on making the plugin a new BuddyPress Add-on.

    Hi @awol

Thanks for the information regarding BP Members Menu items. It looks like it’s a BP Classic issue as it works fine when you deactivated it if I understand well. I’ll give it a look asap.

    Hi @awol

I believe what you described about Post Type Activities is relative to this ticket: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/8343. Unfortunately I won’t be able to give it some attention, so the issue will still exist in next major version.

My priority for the end of this 12.0 development cycle is to document the important change about the BP Rewrites API, hoping plugin authors will use it to make sure their plugins will be ready for this API.

About BP Template Packs, we do not have (unlike the BP Default theme) any plan to deprecate these for now and coming releases.

There will be a new BP standalone theme. It will be a Block only Theme, we’ll use it to make it possible to use the Site Editor to customize the BuddyPress area of the site. I believe we should release this theme out of the BuddyPress plugin and directly host it on the WordPress Theme directory.

For more information about it you can read these 2 posts:

What new features will be coming to BuddyPress?

How should back-end & front-end BuddyPress Interfaces evolve?

    Update:

@earl_d I just tested with WordPress 6.3 & BuddyPress 11.3.1, no other plugins or custom code, having Twenty Nineteen theme active and using a regular WP config (as opposed to multisite) : everything behaves as expected.

    Hi @earl_d

According to the changes we included into this release I’d be very surprised it has such a side effect. If there’s an issue with the registration page, it’s probably something we haven’t figured out yet. I’ll look at it asap.

    Hi,

In this support topic of the BP Attachments Add-on, there’s a code snippet to disable the beta feature about managing Avatar using the Add-on instead of BuddyPress Legacy Avatar UI:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/bp-users-are-not-able-to-delete-their-avatar-image/#post-16897553
It should help you carry on being able to share media in activity updates & being able to upload avatars in a more stable way.

    Hi @awol

Absolutely 10.0.0-beta2 will include the BP Menu items fix and you’ll be able to add BP Menu Items to WP Navigations from the Menus Administration screen or the Customizer.

I just added this user docs resource for more informations

    Hi @awol

Thanks a lot for your testing and feedback.

About the CSS override: you need to put the buddypress.css & buddypress.min.css inside the /wp-content/themes/your-child-theme-name/css folder. I just tested with a Twenty Nineteen child theme and it behaves as expected.

About the WP Nav Menus we use for the logged in user BP links, the issue is fixed into our development version, it will be included into our 12.0-beta2 release.

As I’ve explained here, 12.0.0 no longer uses regular WordPress pages as the directory page of a BuddyPress component. You’ll see a “BuddyPress Directories” section into the Customizer UI to manage menus. If you use the regular Admin screen, you’ll need to activate the “BuddyPress Directories” checkbox into your screen options > See the screenshot above.

I forgot to mention that, in order to add a BuddyPress directory page into a WP Nav Menu, you now need to activate the “BuddyPress directories” menu type from the WP Admin Menu Screen options. See screenshot below:

    WP Menu Admin screen

We’ll document this change inside our User Docs.
