Had a quick look through your group extension and I saw a couple things. You shouldn’t call $bp->groups->new_group_id on the edit screen functions, cause it only exists when you create a group. That basically means that your edit_screen_save function uses $group_id and that variable hasn’t been declared, so it’s empty. Use $bp->groups->current_group->id and your group meta’ll get saved as expected.
In reply to: Buddyvents – New Events PluginI’ll wait for BP 1.2.6 and see how it works on that, then people can buy it through our online shop.
There are activity entries for a published event, when members attend an event, might attend an event and don’t attend an event anymore. Recurrence is not supported yet.
Does that field actually exist?

Yep, but you need to wrap Nickname with ‘, so that’d be ‘Nickname’
In reply to: How to turn OFF multisite? As far as I know you can’t. I’d leave it on and try this here:
http://etivite.com/groups/buddypress/forum/topic/quick-tip-added-banned-email-domain-check-to-multisite-buddypress-registration/#topicHave you tried passing in the user_id as a second argument?
Try ‘Nickname’ instead of just Nickname
Edit: oops, just saw that you tried that already…
You need to put code into backticks “.
In reply to: Membermap for BuddypressAs far as I know that doesn’t exist (maybe gpress? not sure…). I implemented that for a couple of my sites, though. It’s fairly easy, but there’s some coding involved.
First you specify a profile field, like Location. Then when someone signs up, or when someone edits his/her profile, you request the geocoded location based on that profile field from Google. Then it’s a good idea to check if that location already exists in the database. Google maps don’t display 2 pins for the same location, so you just add like 0.0001 to both the longitude and the latitude and check again until you end up with a unique location. Then save the location as usermeta.
The second step is to put all of these markers onto a Google map. It’s best to use a script like markerclusterer.js. Imagine you have 10.000 users. When you want to display all of them on one map it’ll take ages to render all of these pins. markerclusterer groups pins that sit in a certain radius together and only displays them when you zoom into the map. So then you pull all the locations from the database and pass it to the google maps script.
Have a look at http://scubavagabonds.com/divers/. I had been thinking of turning that into a plugin (I still might at some point), but for now I just don’t have the time. There’s a lot of documentation available for Google maps version 3 and if you know some php it shouldn’t be too hard.
In reply to: Plugin development – please can you helpWell, when yo call xprofile_template_loop_end, then this hook should only run once the complete loop has finished. There’s no way of adding stuff before or after a certain action hook (except when there’s another hook), only right where the hook is. One way of adding things to a loop is to use a counter for the loop and then add a dynamic hook to every entry, like so:
`do_action( ‘some_custom_hook_’. $counter );`BuddyPress plugins are just WordPress plugins, so the best starting point is probably the WP codex:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_PageThen there’s the skeleton component that does a pretty good job of explaining some BP specific stuff:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-skeleton-component/And of course the BP plugin files and other BP plugins, that you can have a look through.
In reply to: Buddyvents – New Events PluginOk, guys! I’ll be able to release the plugin after all. There’ll be a price tag of around EUR 25 attached to it, which includes support and updates.
The plugin has been built on BP 1.3, so keep that in mind!
In reply to: Buddyvents – New Events PluginNope, there is only one place to create an event. And only if you are the admin of a group can you attach an event to it. If you’re not an admin, you won’t even see the group related stuff.
Well, you probably want to adjust all the index files like index.php, archive.php or category.php as well, so the comment count doesn’t show up there when the post is in that category. When you use the category ID then you need to get rid of the enclosing ‘.
So that would be
`<?php if( ! in_category( 61 ) )
comments_template(); ?>`The jobboard plugin is quite stable now and I’ll release that soon, so shortly after that I’ll work on getting the CV component ready.
In reply to: Get non-activated usersToo right!! Let’s close this topic. My original post is feeling really left out by all that discussion that has nothing to do with it
Good discussion, though! In reply to: Get non-activated usersGenerally speaking I don’t have a problem with websites reposting things like short code-snippets. When your feeds get scraped or whole articles are copied, that’s when things become hairy. The way things should be handled on bp-tricks to avoid any hassle is to give credit to the original source whenever possible. wprecipes.com, for example, does a pretty good job at that.
in single.php something like this should work:
`<?php if( ! in_category('exclude') )
comments_template(); ?>`where you change exclude to the name or id of the category you don’t want the comments to show up.
In reply to: Creating a Registration Page with eCommerce supportI would use the s2member plugin to achieve what you want. It’s not so easy to setup as other plugins, but there’s lots of documentation that should get you started.
In reply to: Comments disabled on pagesYou need to include this little snippet in page.php where you want the comments to appear:
“In reply to: Buddyvents – New Events PluginYou can already attach an event to a group. The only restriction is that you need to be the admin of a group.
In reply to: Need help learning plugin development@boonebgorges
true. it makes a lot more sense working towards a certain goal. in my case that was also wordpress development, so that’s the way i learned php as well. which wasn’t necessarily the easiest or fastest way to do it. Anyways, I think, having a certain understanding of php makes it so much easier to understand WP, or any other php-based code.Once I got my hands on Programming PHP, my skills developed a lot faster than by trying to figure out stuff by reading other peoples source code.
In reply to: Need help learning plugin developmentA good way to start are these 2 pages:
This one specifically for BP:
https://codex.buddypress.org/home/And this one for WP:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_PageOn that last one have a look at the developers documentation.
But as said before, if you don’t know php, then that’s where you need to start. In reply to: Buddyvents – New Events PluginAs far as getting your hands on it, it’s still not certain that I’ll be able to release it. Keep your fingers crossed

As for your bug reports, it’s all been fixed, thank you. Plus I added in some minor improvements.
hmm, i stopped reading after the second capitalized word…
In reply to: Cron Tasks with BuddyPressNo worries. There’s a recurring scheduling function as well in that file.
In reply to: Cron Tasks with BuddyPressHave a look at this function:
`wp_schedule_single_event`You can find it in wp-includes/cron.php. There’s a bunch of other cron related functions in there, but the one I mentioned above is probably your best bet. Then schedule an event by attaching it to a hook, when a user signs up
