I would take @nuprn1‘s second suggestion, as it means far fewer hits to the db than pulling up every post every time the activity stream is loaded.
(Side note – boy, these filtering posts just keeping coming up, huh? Hmmm….)
Yes. Just turn bbPress forums off at Dashboard > Component Setup.
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!5MB for an avatar pic is pretty big. Maybe that’s the problem.
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!You got it!
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!oops, I might have given you the wrong number.
But you’re wrong that that line is screwing it up. wp-config.php is loaded before this file. So if you’ve defined the constant there, it’ll never get past the first conditional in the code you just pasted.
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!It’s defined in bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php, around line 34. But you’ll see that it shouldn’t be defining it there if you’ve already defined it in wp-config.php
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!Yup, that’s right. BTW putting it in wp-config.php means that it won’t get overwritten when you upgrade BP or WP. Generally, wherever you see a constant in the code (with a CAPITAL_LETTER_NAME like that), you can do something similar to override the defaults in a future-proof way.
In reply to: Hey, Upload size limit issues please help!Try putting a line in your wp-config.php file that says
define( 'BP_AVATAR_ORIGINAL_MAX_FILESIZE', 10 * 1024 );Change 10 * 1024 to whatever integer you’d like.In reply to: Basic footerRight click -> View Source

@xrun – Did you check to see whether Load More is working correctly without this custom code? It’s hard to troubleshoot when I don’t know if your problem is related to the additional code.
In reply to: Secure Invites for Mu@bpisimone This plugin is separate from my invite plugin, but I’ve been thinking of putting some invite-only functionality into mine. Maybe @mrwiblog and I can join forces somehow
In reply to: Have buddypress not on the root sitePut this in your wp-config.php:
define( 'BP_ROOT_BLOG', 3 );Replace 3 with the number of the site where you’d like BP to live.In reply to: Strange BP/WPMU ProblemYour first issue is by design. The Site (Super if you’re on WP 3.0) Admin > Users option only appears when you activate Network mode (or are running WPMU). It shows everyone with an account on your installation. The Users > Users panel only shows accounts that have a user role on your blog (Subscriber, Contributor, etc). That list won’t show accounts that signed up through BP and thus don’t have any role on your main blog.
Not sure about the second issue. You have a screenshot?
In reply to: Buddypress and Wp 3.0 multi site problem.‘Round these parts it’s OK to bump after 24 hours, not one hour.
Have you changed your permalinks to something other than the default setting? Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks
In reply to: Top Navigation redirecting to Members DirectoryWhat is the URL that the links are pointing to? (Hover over and look in the status bar at the bottom of the browser window, or view page source.) Does it look like this? http://example.com/members//profile – with those two slashes next to each other?
Can you say more about your setups? https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/when-asking-for-support
In reply to: Linking directly to Member featuresIf you’re looking for a bit of PHP to generate such a link in your BP templates, try this:
<a href="<?php bp_loggedin_user_domain() ?>/messages/inbox">Inbox</a>
In reply to: Changing the name of groupsTwo steps:
1) Rename the slug
2) Change references in a language fileBoth steps are described in detail here: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
@xrun Does the Load More link work without that filter in bp-custom.php? Sounds like it might be a javascript issue unrelated to the custom function.
In reply to: Can’t Drag Widgets to SidebarsThis sometimes happens to me when one of the plugin-created widgets is coded incorrectly, which messes up the way that the drag-n-drop javascript works on some browsers. Try dragging the very first widget on your widget list – does it work? If so, try the second, and the third, etc until you find the one causing the problem. Disable the plugin that creates the widget in question.
Also, I’ve found that Firefox/Camino are less likely to have the problem than Webkit browsers (Safari, Chrome).
@hnla You raise an interesting point about plugin development vs core development. Speaking from the point of view of someone who makes a living off of WP and BP-related development, I can note that it’s often quite easy to justify the development of plugin-type functionality for a client. The client’s job needs a specific type of functionality not available in, or appropriate for, the core of BP, so it makes sense for them to pay to have it developed as an add-on. From there it generally takes just a bit of extrapolation and cleanup to turn that add-on into something that can be released as a plugin in the WP repo. (If you’re really lucky, like I am, you have paying clients who actually *encourage* these cleanup and extrapolating steps in plugin development.)
It’s a bit harder to bill for core-type development, since so much of core development involves extensive bug testing on a wide variety of different server and software configurations – something that isn’t really required for a specific client project.
Still, this all makes me think about Andy’s awesome post from last year, “Give a Little”: http://apeatling.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/give-a-little/. Now that I’m starting to catch up from my month-long break from BP (honeymoon ftw), I personally am going to start devoting more time to the core project, which I understand broadly as this buddypress.org community as well as the ongoing core development on trac.buddypress.org.
In reply to: How to filter all activity from a memberCheck out this post by Rich: http://blog.etiviti.com/2010/03/buddypress-hack-remove-non-friend-updates-from-the-activity-stream/ You’ll want to change line 10 to be something like
if ( $activity->user_id == $filtered_user_id )(or use in_array if you have a number of users whose content you want to filter).Not a perfect solution – it’ll screw up some of your page numbering if you filter out too much – but it’s good for filtering out the occasional item from a particular item.
In reply to: TwentyTen child theme for BuddyPress@marcogiustini – That’s strange – what themes are you using on the secondary sites? As long as the themes contain
do_action( 'wp_footer' ), the admin bar should show up on them.In reply to: How to query for groupsBy the way, similar loops exist for bp_has_groups(), bp_has_members(), etc. The codex is pretty good on these subjects: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/
In reply to: How to query for groups@ajaxmac – If you want to get group activity updates, you’ll want to query for *activities* rather than groups. Check out bp_has_activities() https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/. For example, you can get the last five activity updates from a group with a loop containing the following query:
if ( bp_has_activities( 'max=5&object=groups&primary_id=' . $group_id ) )(obviously you’ll have to get that $group_id from somewhere).Then use the rest of the activity loop to display the content. Check out buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/entry.php to see how bp-default displays a single activity item within the loop, and activity-loop.php to see an (albeit complicated) example of how bp-default initializes the loop with a query.
In reply to: Make users able to use brackets in their postsIndividual inequality signs seem to work OK.
Are you trying to allow users to post HTML code? That’s a different beast altogether. If you want to allow them to place HTML *elements* in their status updates, etc (eg so that they can make a piece of text bold by putting strong tags around it), you’ll want to add those tags one by one to the kses filters for individual components. See, for example, buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-filters.php, bp_activity_filter_kses(). You can either remove that filter altogether (by dropping
remove_filter( 'bp_get_activity_content_body', 'bp_activity_filter_kses', 1 );
remove_filter( 'bp_get_activity_content', 'bp_activity_filter_kses', 1 );
into a bp-custom.php or functions.php file), or you can put a filter on bp_activity_allowed_tags to allow individual tags through.If you’re trying to allow your users to post *code*, make sure that you include the
codeandpretags in your kses filter.
