In reply to: Combine /user & /user/profile pages?
@kvschwartz
bp-custom.php should reside in http://www.your-site/wp-content/plugins or if your on localhost it would be http://localhost/your-site/wp-content/plugins. It is not in a folder like other plugins would be. It is just a php file named bp-custom.php that occupies the same directory as a plugin. Please review:

Have you tried:In reply to: Combine /user & /user/profile pages?@kvschwartz
Don’t you think this would throw people off? You add friends by searching the members directory. How else would one determine if they want to be friends with this other person?
Answer to b) I have a plugin that will add data to the members directory.

I thought about offering it free but after further consideration I decided to offer it for a VERY reasonable price. Contact me here if you are interested in purchasing it:

On the members directory you should see a button to the right of that member that says “Remove Friend!” If you are not friends already it would read “Add Friend.”In reply to: Add Profile link to WP Custom Nav Menu@nasive
I suggest trying out:

Try this plugin I made. This only makes BuddyPress and bbPress private.

Make sure you clear the previous code out of bp-custom.php that you posted above! In reply to: Page titles in U-Design theme@corytrevor
You might want to shared with the theme author that bp_is_page() was depreciated as of BP 1.7+In reply to: How to change the font color of Profile Fields.@serie3369
You really should still make a child theme and add that that to it. Otherwise if you update your theme it is likely that it will be overwritten. In reply to: registration form with minimum ageIn reply to: registration form with minimum age@randygootjes

Has the person actually logged in yet?In reply to: Private Group Request Notification@zane
When you are logged in hover the “My Account Menu” in the top right. Then click Settings/Notifications. On the next screen scroll down towards the bottom. Under “Groups” select “Yes” to the right of “A member requests to join a private group for which you are an admin.”In reply to: registration form with minimum age@randygootjes

Just looking at the image and the dynamic members part of the URL is missing. What themes/plugins/custom code are you using? In reply to: registration form with minimum age@randygootjes
This would be easy using just BuddyPress Xprofile fields:
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/buddypress-components-and-features/extended-profiles/
You could create a dropdown menu and make it required and only allow the selection from say 21 to 120 years of age (“Not like most of us will live that long anyway unfortunately”) But also have a check box that is required that all information entered to join the site is true etc.In reply to: Enabling Components@yvonnetaylor

The codex is your Buddy:

So if you reverted to bp-default and nothing happened that should tell you right there that it is a theme issue! I would make a complaint to them and request they fix this immediately or you expect a prompt refund! In reply to: Pop up out of no where?!@jloc14
Have you tried reverting back to bp-default to see if the issue persists? This is basic troubleshooting procedures. This way you can isolate if it is a theme issue. In reply to: Pop up out of no where?!@jloc14
What theme are you using as well as plugins? Sounds kinda like you may have got a theme from somewhere other than a reputable place and maybe it has some java-script that is causing this. Have you tried switching themes to Twenty Twelve or bp-default and deactivated all plugins other than BuddyPress? In reply to: BP Template Pack@justsayno1
Its all good, you just needed a nudge in the right direction! Good luck on your project!@kvschwartz
I have not tested all of the capabilities of this plugin. I would pose this question to the author of this plugin here:

This is a new plugin and it works good. No foot kissing needed!

Thank you both, and I suppose you are both correct. I will release the plugin when I get it done. If its for the greater good then I will not let anyone that would oppose this deter my efforts! In reply to: BP Template Pack@justsayno1
As of BP 1.7+ you do not need the template pack plugin. Please review:
