In reply to: Can’t Register as a new user on a new installation
Just a guess, but it doesn’t accept the email address you are providing. What is the format of the email address user@somewere.com?
It also validates the domain for your email address. If it isn’t a valid domain it generates that error. It checks DNS.
In reply to: wpmu menu’s will not openrayni, I meant that if I turn off javascript in my browser the wp back end fails like you mention. I have no way of visiting your admin area to see what is going on for sure. You can use firebug to look at your main blog and see what is getting sent out and then compare that to your other blogs

You don\’t have to use SVN if you don’t want to:

SVN is definitely the best way but not the only way.

In reply to: Php plugin error – loginYou have a syntax err in the code somewhere. We can’t help you without seeing the code. Paste the function here.
In reply to: Admin Barmadshark, as opposed to the new wp admin bar. No. They are independent of each other and you get to choose. I just turned off the wp admin bar.
In reply to: Avatar UploadI’d rather be happy than right. Enjoy your new topic.
In reply to: Avatar UploadThis has absolutely nothing to to with bp vito687.
In reply to: Avatar UploadWidget options are stored in the blog meta (options) on whatever blog they are activated on. If a widget is running on blog id XX then the options for that widget will be in the wp-XX-options table. Frankly I think you are making this more difficult than it really is. Just go into the wp back end under Appearances> Widgets and load them up, set the options and you\’ll be done.
I’m turning off the red light.
In reply to: bp-Events plugins directory questionErwin the component db upgrade routines run when you change the component db version numbers. If you want to mod the db tables and upgrade them somehow then you need to bump the component’s db version number.
Your component’s check installed routine runs and only runs the install fn if site admin visit’s the wp back end and the current component db version number defined in your code is > than that stored in site meta.
The stored current ver number gets updated to the current component db version number after whatever table mods happen. Then the code’s component db version number matches the site meta stored component db version number and it doesn’t run again.
The component table upgrades have nothing to do with where your component lives, what back end menu it appears in or with anything else that bp or other components are doing.
It’s up to you as the component author to decide when table upgrades happen. It’s controlled by your component specific db version number.
In reply to: Xprofile: Just show first Letter of last nameThis is a custom coding issue. Not a bp issue. I’m turning off the red light on this one.
In reply to: bp-Events plugins directory questionThis thread still need a red light Erwin?
In reply to: wpmu menu’s will not openYou probably aren’t getting much response to this because nobody knows that menus you are talking about. I’m just guessing that it’s the wp back end admin area? Seems you have disabled javascript somehow.
In reply to: Help: Fatal ErrorsOk. Well, not sure what I did but I’ll take the credit anyway.
In reply to: Help: Fatal ErrorsYou are going to encounter lots of errors if bp isn\\\’t installed properly and you are not running the proper wpmu version. First thing is get the svn 2.7 branch of wpmu. This depends on the operating system you are developing on.
Start with this: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2145#post-11567 and this https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1285
If you are on windows this is the client I use: http://tortoisesvn.net/
Other than not running the right version of wpmu, bp does not seem to be installed right. You shouldn\\\’t have to upload the php file I mentioned to get things working right. If you are running the trunk version of bp you need to get the latest wpmu the same way you did the bp trunk. Just a different url.
Neither bp nor wpmu seem to be installed correctly.
In reply to: Help: Fatal ErrorsMake sure that bp is installed in a directory called /plugins/buddypress
Make sure that you are using the wpmu svn 2.7 branch http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-mu/branches/2.7 not the wpmu trunk.
For some reason bp is not loading correctly. bp should be installed in the above directory and there should be other subdirs underneath that with all the components. Do you have this file in this path? /plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/bp-groups-templatetags.php
That is one of the files that is not loading.
In reply to: Avatar UploadDoes apache/php have write permission in your php or system /tmp directory?
In reply to: Xprofile: Just show first Letter of last nameI give up.
In reply to: bbPress – There was an error posting that topic.Byron, you made it. I thought about this. Is your new user a ‘member’ in bbpress? Also do you have this line:
$bb->bb_xmlrpc_allow_user_switching = true;
in bb-config.php?
In reply to: This group does not existYou should replace the files on your installation with the exact same version. If you were running trunk then you need to replace them from that specific revision number. If you are using RC1 then you need to replace the files from the RC1 zip.
If you are using trunk then you can revert your working copy of bp to a specific rev # and replace the missing files.
In reply to: How to use full name, first name + last nameThis thread has an example of how to build a filter: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2146 for the user full name.

You should really talk to DJPaul here on the forums. He has a plugin called Welcome Pack that assigns new users a default friend and default group. He also says that the next version of that plugin will have the ability to create a custom welcome message to the new user. Not sure if that’s a PM or an email. Suggest what you want to him. He’s working that kinda track.
