    Thanks, John! I was lost until you mentioned removing home.php. Thanks to you, too, Burt.

    @johnjamesjacoby Sorry, you’re not following. I don’t want the BP theme (http://testbp.org/) active on user blogs, I want the admin’s news blog theme (http://http://testbp.org/blog/) as the active theme on user blogs.

    @johnjamesjacoby The News theme I am referring to is not a separate theme. It is the News/Blog theme that is embedded within BuddyPress that is the default theme for the admin on the News/Blog page.

    To be clear: How can I make this theme: http://testbp.org/blog an available theme choice for member blogs?

    I’m wondering this same thing.

    @burt
    If you activate the BP home theme for your personal blog, you get the three column/widget theme. What ekine and I want is the admin’s News (now Blog) blog theme to be the mandatory user blog theme. I’ve seen this done but don’t know how. Any help?

    I made the above changes and the center column is gone. It has left an empty space, however, the right column did not take up that empty space. Since the above recommendation is a bit dated, are there any additional changes to be made if running RC-1? Thanks. Maybe a future BP version will allow the admin to choose between two or three columns.

    Check out this post: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=261

    In that post, I first agreed with what Burt said but in the end I used the suggested plugin: http://www.callum-macdonald.com/code/wp-mail-smtp/ and it works like a dream.

    I did what Burt suggested, commenting out those lines, and it helped slightly. The email now comes from the address I designated in the WPMU settings. However, the email says it is From: WordPress and not from my site.

    Wish I could help but I never found a way to change this.

    I found those in the bp-core.php but I’m not sure what to do. Is there a way to hardcode those functions to the correct address?

    Yes, I manually approved the comment. I wonder if the same thing happens if I don’t screen blog comments.

    Do you use Firefox? Grab the Firebug add-on and it makes it a cinch to edit the css, among other things.

    I don’t think this is the intended way to work it, but I ended up just creating a new blog with the admin account and named it News. Now when I click on “News” on the front page, it takes me to the news blog.

    I use Bluehost and you’re right, you cannot set up WPMU using subdomains; you must use the subdirectory option. This was fine with me because I was already installing WPMU into a subdirectory and though http://member/wpmu/sitename.com would look funny.

    Also, I ran into a few snags while installing onto Bluehost but found some very easy fixes.

    Burt, yes, the News tab on the front of the BP home page. However, the root blog’s posts are not going there. Instead, they are being sent to /blog/. I cannot edit the permalinks from /blog/ to /news/ as /blog/ seems to be hard coded in. What am I missing?

    I’m with you, wardeh. As the site admin, I would also like sole authority to create groups. It’ll really help with the overlap and redundant user-created groups.

    Andy, I went to the Customize Permalink Structure page but the best I can get is mysite.com/blog/news/. Is there a different place to change the blog permalink? Thanks.

    Good call, Andy. All the files within the folders were set at chmod 600, too. Any idea why this happened? I’ve never run into this problem before now. Anyway, I’m pretty sure everything is looking and operating as it should. Would you mind taking a quick look? One last thing. I need to know where to send your cup of coffee as my thanks. PayPal?

    How is everything looking now? I went through and changed everything to 755, as it was all set to 600. There’s still 1 dead link on an image but I think everything else is as it should be?

    @chriscarter

    Huh. Ok, yes, that’s exactly where the css file is. However, style.css is set to 600. In fact, all files within /buddypress-home/ are chmod 600 while the two directories within /buddypress-home/ are 755. Again, the theme directory itself is 755. That’s not right, is it? What should all the files be?

    @chriscarter

    Andy, those folders are 755. Always have been. I’ve tried re-uploading the theme, too, but to no avail.

    Ok, I’m back to the BuddyPress Home theme 0.4 so you can look (spirituallymodified.com) and it’s just a garbled mess. The theme is there but, I don’t know, it’s not being rendered correctly. I’m no expert so I’m not sure what’s causing this problem.

    Since you asked in another place, Burt, MU installed great and worked as it should. I made sure to check it out before installing BP. Sorry but no cup of coffee for either of you gents, yet. :)
