That site was pretty cool until he deactivated BuddyPress
In reply to: Unified Profile Page?@BossX – As in, similar to the wordpress profiles (https://profiles.wordpress.org/matt)?
Yes, it’s possible through a custom theme. The top part with the profile information is simply the members/single/member-header.php file with code to insert their bio and other info – See: http://bp-tricks.com/snippets/displaying-certain-profile-fields-on-your-members-profile-page/
The bottom part is the members/single/profile.php template (their activity is an external custom built activity stream, but the theory is the same… just add the activity loop) – See: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
And then they changed the default profile view from the activity view to profile with – define( ‘BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT’, ‘profile’ );
@enderpal, don’t have time to actually look closely at the stackexchange atm. but if it helps, you actually don’t need to unhook it.
The way wordpress works is it will always look through your child theme first, so if you copy the function into your child theme – when wordpress goes through default and finds `if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_comment_form’ ) ) :` since it DOES exist inside your child theme, it will pretend that the function inside the default theme doesn’t exist essentially doing the exact same thing as ‘removed all the filters’ would do.
In reply to: Change the username nomenclature@lp_axex76 Your English is fine (better than mine and English is my first language. lol) Though, i’m having trouble grasping what you mean… (it’s possible that i’m reading it wrong, so could you clarify what you mean?)
The default structure for members profiles is “http://example.com/members/bob/” (assuming your username is ‘bob’)
The only time it should be “/members/12uio98j12lkhj98juj786gujg2/” is when their username is “12uio98j12lkhj98juj786gujg2”
Did you have a specific question? Something like “How can i make usernames force use of dictionary words only, or… how do i remove digits from usernames”
In reply to: removing logged out user message@hallsy – are you using the “Activity stream extras” plugin? i believe that plugin outputs that message.
http://etivite.com/wordpress-plugins/buddypress-activity-stream-extras/In reply to: Changing my-friends slugWhat did you use to change the slugs?
The official (and supported) way to change any slugs that doesn’t have a page associated with it, is via bp-custom.php using
define ( 'BP_FRIENDS_SLUG', 'connections' );Did you use that or something else to change it?
See: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/
See: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/In reply to: Member Role – allow member role to use a pluginSo, you want to allow your ‘Subscriber’ role to access your backend to post ‘posts’, right?
Their are lots of wordpress plugins that will help (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/roles) such as https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/
In reply to: Check this out: Twitter like BuddyPress ThemeSell me on it. What does your theme do that couldn’t be done with any of the hundreds of the free bootstrap themes and a quick click of a button using the template pack plugin? What value does it provide that i couldn’t get from a free theme?
Free WordPress bootstrap themes i could use.
rootstheme – http://rootstheme.com
wpbs – http://320press.com/wpbs/
+100 others+ https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
So, i ask again… What’s in it for me? What do i get for $10?
In reply to: Favorite button for posts as a core feature.Someone else asked that in a comment – http://byotos.com/2011/12/19/bp-labs-you-may-like-this/#comment-530
Answer: “Not right now.”
regarding the activity. Yes, but; it’s not completely finished yet.

“Super early first pass at the activity stream output. Placeholder images!”In reply to: Favorite button for posts as a core feature.@enderpal444 Their is functionality for this going into BP Labs when BuddyPress 1.6 is released.
See: http://byotos.com/2011/12/19/bp-labs-you-may-like-this/While it isn’t exactly ‘core’ and is a completely separate, unofficial project, it is maintained by @djpaul who is a BP core dev and it is known for being a testing ground of afew of the new features being introduced in buddypress 1.6 (eg. akismet activity spam filter)
Might be an idea to keep an eye on it.
In reply to: Vertical Sub-menus@shivang – Move the code between div.item-list-tabs into your sidebar and then style it with CSS.
@hatiro this is a known bug that is being worked on.
This ticket is the one they are currently using to track the issue if you have any additional information that may help them – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3908
In reply to: When is Privacy module coming into Buddypress1. does the privacy plugin by Jeff work with BP 1.5.4? Has anyone ever tested or enhanced it?
It doesn’t work. (properly) Yes, afew people have ‘enhanced’ it. Have a look at @modemlooper‘s privacy plugin – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-profile-privacy/2. Is there ever going to be a core privacy module ever for BP? If yes, then in which version can we expect this?
Yep. It’s already coded and is set to be released in 1.6 (next major update)Have a look at the Trac ticket that details it – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3695#comment:10
“I think when prioritizing the tasks for upcoming release, this should of the highest priority. Things like theme/css bugs and changes, minor bugs can be ignored. This one feature will make this software complete.”
I disagree. Features should NEVER come before bugs… i hate cockroaches all over my site
In reply to: Groups without Friends@geogruven This is a default feature in Buddypress. Users can (should be able to?) join any public group via clicking the ‘join group’ button. Is it not working?
In reply to: New project looking for people volunteeris this a duplicate of your month old post
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/requests-feedback/forum/topic/new-project/ ?I can’t volunteer for a for-profit business, but if you open source your code on github i’d be more than happy to ‘volunteer’ and help you out where i can.
In reply to: Caps Look in the username field@BlinkyBill01 – You can see the changes that will be in 1.6 here, https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5443
the red markings is what was removed and the green is what was added,
to find it in the future, it’s usually linked to by a core dev before the ticket becomes closed,
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2207#comment:22…and for anyone thinking of using it on their site for a quick-fix, please note that it’s still in beta and being tested and not guaranteed to work… (theirs a reason it doesn’t get pushed out to live sites automatically)
Since it isn’t a critical bug but an enhancement i’d recommend waiting afew weeks until it’s out officially.
edit: ohhh, right. We are at version 1.5.4 you can see them here – https://buddypress.org/blog/
@substrato as listed on the roadmap (https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/) bbpress 2.0 will have full intergration in buddypress 1.6.
Trac ticket for more: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3598
i think calling it a ‘security flaw’ is going abit overboard… most of the top 100 websites on alexa’s topsites list have your login name displayed publicly. (eg. if i gave you my gmail address so we could keep in contact, all you need to do is figure out/guess my password and hack my account.) but anyways,
Correct me if i misread what your saying, but it sounds like this might be the problem your experiencing – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3725 (it’s being fixed in buddypress 1.6)
In reply to: Caps Look in the username fieldIt seems to be that way by design.
The plugin is doing what it’s told to do.
In reply to: Caps Look in the username field@tiagobeloto – this seems to be getting fixed in 1.6 (see link below) You’d be better off waiting for that release to hit before implementing this.
However, if you need a quick fix until then @r-a-y provided some code near the beginning of the discussion that might help…
In reply to: Mobile status updates@theTechnaddict, I tried to play with ostatus last year but then it broke and wasn’t updated in over 12 months so i abandoned it… hope your experience is better
In reply to: Username Restrictions?Like this? https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/restrict-usernames/
Should work.@allinfinite, you might want to have a look at how the Buddypress Mobile plugin detects mobile users and then instead of switching them to a new theme, redirect them (or whatever else you want to achieve) instead.
https://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/buddypress-mobile/trunk/buddypress-mobile.phpAlso, apparently (i havent played with it, just echoing things i’ve heard so take it with a grain of salt) despite the name, $is_iphone also returns true for android, so if android and iphones are the only smartphones you want to show that page for, then that built-into wordpress function will work
See here on how to use it: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/is_iphone-documenation#post-1991224
In reply to: I NEED A PLUGIN FOR:Buddydevs premium plugin also supports videos. (from the page @mercime linked to – “Multiple types of media Supported [including] Video gallery [&] Can be extended with few code to support any [type] of media you want”)
http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/The Buddypress Album team are currently working on their second version called ‘buddypress media’ that will support videos. But it’s in development and doesn’t have a stable version yet.
http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/@sbrajesh you have a spelling error on that page BTW.
In reply to: Mobile status updates@theTenchoaddict license: Twitter and Open source are two different pies…
But, while i havent read through it word by word, Wikipedia states that statusnet (agpl 3.0) IS compatible with (gpl 3.0) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affero_General_Public_License#Compatibility_with_the_GPLAnyways, it was more me thinking out loud.
Another option (my favorite option too) if you want a mobile version is to use Media Query’s to make your site responsive.
