In reply to: World of Warcraft achievement to activity stream
This plugin should get you half way there: http://achievementsapp.com/ Although, you’d still likely need to integrate the API with World of Warcraft. I don’t know enough about WoW to know how that is done.
In reply to: Unable To Upload AvatarsDefinitely looks like a permission issue to me. I’d check the file permissions on the sub folders to make sure that the permission is cascading down the way it should. Depending on your web server setup, I think that the user and group that owns the folder could be an issue.
In reply to: Buddypress.org avatar issueYep, this is a known issue with the server that hosts BP since it also hosts a lot of WP stuff. Use http://gravatar.com and you’ll be able to upload one.
In reply to: Do more with member profile! Help needed! You’ll need to turn on registration in the admin panel and then the registration page will appear. Anything could be done to the profiles. It’s all about adjusting the theme to include the things you mention.
In reply to: True BP compatibility with MultisiteI predict that this won’t be in 1.3. Although, as some of the other threads mention, the basis for being able to do this has been added and could be added in 1.3. I would bet this project is going to need to be done by someone outside of the core developers to make it happen soon.
In reply to: How to change the title on the browser tabs?Try the Seo for Buddypress plugin. It has the options to change these settings.
Both options are pretty close to the same now. Their use to be more things that you could do with one and not the other. Now, the biggest thing is just the URL that people can use to reference their blogs. For example, do you prefer blog1.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com/blog1 Either way works. Now it seems like it’s more down to preference for the URL structure. Personally I use the subdirectories since I like the way it looks. Then, you don’t have less internet savvy users who type http://www.blog1.yourdomain.com and get mad that it doesn’t work.
Try the BuddyPress Moderation plugin. I think you’ll like it.

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-moderation/In reply to: Can members use forum without groups? You can install BP and bbPress separately and then you don’t have this issue. Just do a search for standalone bbPress install or something and you should find the details to do it.
In reply to: Feature Request: A good invitation systemI agree. Invite Anyone is the best that’s out there so far. I think you’ll find this thread interesting: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/invite-anyone/forum/topic/different-ways-of-inviting/ I’d like to see it done as well. I’ve already done some integrations with Facebook, Twitter, etc. I just need to send what I’ve done to Boone to integrate it. I’d just been waiting for some of the other integrations to send it to him.
That will be awesome @bowromir I look forward to it since I’ve wanted to implement it, but haven’t had time to test it all. A tutorial to start with would be great. Hopefully you’ll offer your post for the codex as well and put a link at the bottom of the codex article to your original post.
In reply to: RiotCart.com: A ReworkingYes, I think a blurb of some sort by the new items would make sense. Even just a “Start Shopping – Click on The Newest Products Below” would help. I’d also move the “New In the Shops” image to the left of the new items. I think that will help people understand the images at the new in the shops.
I’d also add a section below the newest items and above the “Happening at RC” which says something like: Start a Shop. Next to that you could have some bullet points about why they should start a shop:
-Social Shopping
-Free Shop
-Etc etc etc
You might even want to make this conditional for only those that aren’t logged in. If they’re logged in, maybe that could be a list of functions that shop owners can do:
-Add a Product
-Promote Your Shop
-etc etc etcI hope this helps.
I’d love for someone who’s using W3 Total Cache successfully on their blog to do a blog post on what/how they implemented it. Or even better would be to create a Codex page on the best way to implement it and which options to turn off. Plus, whoever does it will get the benefit of the communities input on even better ways to tweak the setup.
Any takers?
In reply to: Possible BP useSounds like what ClothUnderground kind of created: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/gallery/forum/topic/clothunderground-com-launching-tomorrow/
For the most part. You’d have to mention specific features and functions to know whether it matches all of the features you’re thinking of or not. There have been many people who have moved their ning network over to BuddyPress. Although, it depends on which features of Ning you think are important.
The BP Media plugin should cover most of the photo and video needs, but you’ll have to check it out to see if it has everything you want.
In reply to: RiotCart.com: A ReworkingI have to agree with modemlooper. When I hit the landing page I don’t know what to do. I like the look of the site, but it’s not clear what I should do or where I should click. Some clear “Sell Goods” and “Start Shopping” sections would be good, so I could know that those are the 2 things you want people to do on the site. At least, that’s if I understand the site correctly.
In reply to: Help to Change Notification Emails@vanisia Try the mail from plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mail-from/
In reply to: BuddyPress.org avatar upload restrictions?@junebob I agree it’s unfortunate, but this isn’t an error on other BP intalls. Just BP.org. Not to mention that most BP installs don’t have a million users the way BP.org does. I’m sure boone will eventually fix this too on BP.org.
Interesting question. I’m not sure there’s an overall is_bp() type of function that you can call. You might have to list all the specific BP components. Or maybe it’s easier to say it’s not a WP blog.
In reply to: BuddyPress.org avatar upload restrictions? This has been an issue forever I think. Try a gravatar. It works!
Maybe @apeatling can help with this. The WP plugin search isn’t very good. I’ve had this happen with lots of different plugins actually.
In reply to: [Resolved] Join Group button goneUse a child theme next time and it won’t happen: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: Remove @username from profile?I think that’s in `/members/single/member-header.php` Just be sure to use a child theme when you make the change: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: VBulletinDo a search for BBPress import from vBulletin and see what turns up. Right now BP just uses BBpress as the forum.
Forums are tied to groups in BP, unless you use a standalone BBPress install.
There is no bridge for vBulletin right now, but as BBPress is getting redone I think the idea is to make the integration more open so someone could build a vBulletin bridge if there was demand for it.
I guess the other weird part is that in the 2 changes where it was moved to those configuration settings, it changes from 2 different sizes (25×25 and 60×60) to one size (BP_AVATAR_THUMB_WIDTH BP_AVATAR_THUMB_HEIGHT).
I’m not really complaining about the change and I certainly could have tried this before the release and seen the potential problem. I just wonder if this is the best long term strategy. Seems like it will break a number of themes like it did my child theme. I can modify my child theme no problem, but others might not be as lucky.
Are there any other places that these avatar settings are used? Anyone know of any other places? I know the initial resizing would use them, but with them being square it’s not that big of an issue.
