Nice site. I wasn’t quite sure what to do until I found all the links at the bottom. You should find a way to get those links up at the top in a nice way. At least the most important ones.
It was also a bit weird, because I unlocked the badge for a course I took even though I wasn’t logged in. Are you using a plugin to unlock badges?
Also, is your blog a secondary blog or the main blog? I’m planning to do basically the same as you, but I can only get it to happen if I create a secondary blog (multi site) and then it all links up fine. The main blog still points to the main page and then it doesn’t show the posts (at least I don’t want it to). Is that what you’re doing with the blog? I do like that the blog kept the consistent theme. Felt like the same page.
Yep, WP 3.0 Multi-site is what WPMU has become. You just don’t have to use any of the MU (or now multi site) features if you don’t want to.
In reply to: Feature for being redirected when nonmemberCheck out the s2member plugin.
In reply to: members only pages. If you want them to pay to get to that member page, try the s2member plugin. If you want them just to register (for free), then I think this is the thread with a bunch of possible solutions: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-make-a-private-community/
As far as the MP3 player, I don’t know, but I’m sure there are a ton of options. In this case, it wouldn’t need to be BuddyPress specific at all. Just search for an MP3 player that works with a webpage and it can be added to the WordPress page. There might even be a WordPress plugin that does this already.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateJeff talked about it a bit at the dev chat. He’s still waiting for a few patches to the core to be able to release the plugin. I think his intent was to have the patches for the core done this weekend for the .6 release that should come out later next week (if all goes well). Or maybe that’s the intent I am hoping @jeffsayre will have.
I bet dropping a donation on Jeff’s page wouldn’t hurt to move things along either: http://jeffsayre.com/
In reply to: Template Notice on Registration ErrorSeems like this should be a pretty easy one. For some reason, I can’t ever get the template notices to appear when I try to call them. Must be a timing issue of when I call the template notice and then it finally gets displayed.
In reply to: Forum errorThanks @pollyplummer I had this happen on a test database of mine. Couldn’t figure out exactly why. I figured I’d just reinstall it soon, but I’m glad to learn more about what happened and ways to fix it.
I also upgraded from WP to WPMU with 3.0 and so that screwed up the forum data as well. So, beware anyone that tries to do that.

Depends on your host if you need your php.ini everywhere. On most cpanel hosts, you can configure where the php.ini will be. Just search for php.ini (or maybe just php) and you’ll see where you can configure that so you only have one to update. In reply to: Dev Chat Today – July 28, 2010Happening right now if you want to join.
In reply to: Changing name of “groups” page@ajc88
I just did this for a website I’m doing. The easiest way is to make a language file with the changes. See this page on the documentation to do it: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/Basically, you change everywhere that it says group to whatever you want the name to be.
If you just want the link to “Groups” page to be something different, you could do a child theme (see https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/) and change the file header.php where it adds the group navigation link. However, it will still say group everywhere else you go.
I was surprised that shared hosts could do it too hnla. However, it’s a feature of cpanel and so that explains why it’s possible.
As a side note, I started this group for BuddyPress hosting: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-hosting/home/ It still could use some love from more people sharing their experience with various hosts.
Took me a while to remember the php.ini too.
The answer to how much memory is a hard one. Depends on so many factors including the server that your host is providing. No one can really answer it. That said, I think my test site is set at 128 MB and I haven’t run into any issues.
Did you try adding the memory limit in the php.ini? A lot of shared hosts will allow you to create your own php.ini and you can set it higher in there.
The only time I’ve hit that error personally is during updates/plugin downloads. However, if your site gets any reasonable traction, you’ll want a new host.
In reply to: Bug found !This is a feature. A feature a lot of people don’t like. You can see this ticket in Trac which is looking at addressing it: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2207
In reply to: Changing Avatar size sometimes creates Fuzzy AvatarsSo, I haven’t figured all of bp_core_fetch_avatar() out, but here’s some of the types:
type=thumb
type=fullInterestingly, the code I pasted in my previous post took the thumbnail image, but displayed it the size of the full (150×150 I think). So, it was pixelated and ugly. So, I changed it to type=full and it’s a nice 150×150 image.
If anyone else can explain the rest, this seems like some good content for the codex.
In reply to: Changing Avatar size sometimes creates Fuzzy AvatarsI’ve been trying to get it to pull various size group avatars and haven’t had much luck. Here’s the code I’m using:
$avatar = bp_core_fetch_avatar( array( ‘item_id’ => $group->id, ‘object’ => ‘group’, ‘type’ => $type, ‘avatar_dir’ => ‘group-avatars’, ‘alt’ => $alt, ‘css_id’ => $id, ‘class’ => $class, ‘width’ => $width, ‘height’ => $height ) );Shouldn’t I just be able to pass the width and height values that I want? Am I only allowed to pass in certain width and height values? Seems like I could also pass in $type and that could give me the various sizes?
Also, this passes the full HTML for the image. Is there a way I could just get the URL of the image? I could rip it out of the HTML, but that’s kind of messy.
Oh yes, that’s right. You should be good then. I was thinking more of removing spammers that did validate, but then did nothing more. Or they did a drive by spamming.
I’m glad to have a forum like this as well. Honestly, I’d missed the sense of community that you get by being really a part of an open source project like this.
In reply to: Changing Avatar size sometimes creates Fuzzy Avatars@sbrajesh It seems like the group avatar’s use this same code. How would you call the bp_core_fetch_avatar of varying sizes for groups by group id?
Looks like the deleted user also stays listed in the members list and still has a member page. I’m sure there’s a way to clean it up. One of these days someone will come out with a plugin that removes users that haven’t activated.
Yes, I should have mentioned to delete them within WP. At least you learned a lot from the experience.
I don’t think you’ll have major issues with it. Probably a few activity stream items still there (which seem to remain even if you delete them in WP) and if that user comes back to register it might not be pretty, but otherwise you should be ok I think.
This should work:
SELECT * FROM `wp_users` WHERE `user_status` != 0In reply to: Pay SiteThere’s a free version too that’s pretty full featured.
Have you tried asking the plugin author?
In reply to: Any Warning for External Links Plugin?I’ve never seen a plugin like this. It’s an interesting idea. I’m trying to think of a way that you could implement it. There’s a lot of places you’d have to check for a link it seems.
In reply to: Paypal donate for Group PageDo you want the paypal button different for each group or the same for all groups?
