I edited my first po file so that I could change the groups name. 147 line edits later and I’m done. Luckily it’s a one time per site thing or it would be a REALLY major pain.
It seems to me that the po and mo files could be used on any site once they’re generated. So, why not create a repository or list of mo/po files that just change the groups to some other name?
In reply to: Interview Matt Mullenweg: WordPress and the GPLI liked this follow up post about the GPL from the WP lead developer: http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/why-wordpress-themes-are-derivative-of-wordpress/ I learned a lot about the license as well.
You can do a simple query on the database using phpmyadmin. The query would depend on if you’re using WPMU or WP.
In reply to: Secure MessagingI can confirm that you just have to install the SSL certificate (doesn’t work on a shared host as well) and then BP works fine. Just realize that there’s a cost (on the server) to running everything over SSL. It uses more of everything I believe (CPU, memory, bandwidth).
In reply to: Creating a second page in registrationI don’t do extra profile fields. I use that to redirect to a payment page so they can pay to join. After they pay, I redirect them to a Thank You page with their payment details. This is just a page with a special page template applied to it. I also have the activation disabled and they are just automatically activated and logged into the site. I can get away with this since they have to pay.
In reply to: Posting via emailNot right now. Although, WP is now working on the post by email for WordPress posts/comments. Once they refine that process, I’ll be very surprised if someone doesn’t build this type of functionality on the backs of that work.
In reply to: changing the tab order on BuddyPress Default 1.2.5.2If you do modify it, do it as a child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
That way when you have to upgrade, your changes won’t get overwritten.
In reply to: Hosting requirements – launching my site soon..I’ve started a group for BP Hosting: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-hosting/forum/ It still needs some love, but has a little information about various BP hosts.
In reply to: How to customize Login and Logout pages ?I’ve been using: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dbd-login-style/
I haven’t been able to figure out the logo image and so I just overwrote this image: /wp-admin/images/logo-login.gif
I imagine with a different CSS you might be able to easily change it. If you figure that out, I’d love to hear since I hate core changes but was too lazy in this case.
I thought that there was a solution on the Google Webmaster page: http://www.google.com/webmasters/ I think you can provide them the login and they’ll index it.
Just know that if you do that, then they’ll likely cache some of the “private” pages which makes it so they aren’t technically private since you could potentially find them in Google’s cache.
In reply to: Creating a second page in registrationI took a different approach to handling a second step. I just redirect the user after the initial registration:
function bp_redirect($user)
{
$redirect_url = ‘http://redirect-page.com ” ;//redirect to URL
bp_core_redirect($redirect_url);
}}
/*Add an action to redirect user after registration*/
add_action(“bp_core_signup_user”,”bp_redirect”,100,1);In reply to: Changing text notification emailsI don’t think they’re part of the language files, but you should be able to use this plugin to do the translations: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/welcome-pack/
I’m not sure how you define transient, but I wouldn’t touch them. They likely were put there for a reason.
Sometimes when a plugin adds something to the WP Options table and you no longer use that plugin, you can delete it. You just have to be careful or you’ll break something.
In reply to: Email notification not working@rossagrant
Did you try my solution on Bluehost where you redirect the MX Record to a Google Apps account: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/email-notification-not-working/?topic_page=2&num=15#post-50751 That fixed it on Bluehost for me.In reply to: Some basic questions….Here’s the documentation page you’re looking for: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/hiding-the-buddypress-admin-bar/
In reply to: forums gone after 3.0 upgradeDid you try going to wp-admin/admin.php?page=bb-forums-setup and reinstalling the forums. When I moved servers I had to reinstall and then they came back.
You should be able to use the subnav code above to add a “My Topics” subnav to the Forums tab. I’ve done it with one of the other existing tabs. You just have to find the bp_core_new_nav_item() call that adds the forums tab. Then, use some of the code above as a model to add a subnav I think.
The other key is that the ’screen_function’ is the name of the function that will be called when that Nav is clicked.
@sicksight
You should update this trac ticket with what you’ve tried: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2207 I assume that’s where you got the code to try.You can log into trac with the same user you log in to this forum with.
Are you talking about adding it to the nav? Here’s some code I use (which I think I took from Boone’s plugin):
function process_donations_setup_profile_nav() {
global $bp;/* Add ‘Donations’ tab to the main user profile navigation */
bp_core_new_nav_item( array(
‘name’ => __( ‘Donations’, ‘buddypress’ ),
‘slug’ => $bp->process_donations->slug,
‘position’ => 25,
‘screen_function’ => ‘process_donations_donations_collected’,
‘default_subnav_slug’ => ‘donations-collected’,
‘show_for_displayed_user’ => process_donations_access_test()
) );$process_donations_link = $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->process_donations->slug . ‘/’;
/* Create two sub nav items for this component */
bp_core_new_subnav_item( array(
‘name’ => __( ‘Donations Collected’, ‘bp-invite-anyone’ ),
‘slug’ => ‘donations-collected’,
‘parent_slug’ => $bp->process_donations->slug,
‘parent_url’ => $process_donations_link,
‘screen_function’ => ‘process_donations_donations_collected’,
‘position’ => 10,
‘user_has_access’ => process_donations_access_test()
) );bp_core_new_subnav_item( array(
‘name’ => __( ‘Donations Made’, ‘bp-invite-anyone’ ),
‘slug’ => ‘donations-made’,
‘parent_slug’ => $bp->process_donations->slug,
‘parent_url’ => $process_donations_link,
‘screen_function’ => ‘process_donations_donations_made’,
‘position’ => 20,
‘user_has_access’ => process_donations_access_test()
) );
}add_action( ‘wp’, ‘process_donations_setup_profile_nav’, 2 );
add_action( ‘admin_menu’, ‘process_donations_setup_profile_nav’, 2 );In reply to: bp_has_groups() HelpOk, I added the sample code that Boone offered to the codex as well. Probably not needed if you’re good at PHP, but very beneficial if you’re a hack job like me.
I’ll have to look at extending the database class. Then, I assume I’d have to add the code for a new parameter for bp_has_groups as well. Might be a good way to dip my toes into contributing to the core. Although, first I think I need to dip into the core for the required lower case.
Thanks for your help.
In reply to: bp_has_groups() HelpThanks @boonebgorges
There’s no option that will get all the groups that ‘user_id’ => $user_id is not a member of right? I could certainly get all groups and check if the person is a member, but that’s not very efficient.
In reply to: Useful plugins required@profitsbuzz
What do you want to do with the RSS feed? Pull in the latest posts to the person’s profile?In reply to: Selling your items added for members blogs?I’ve only ever seen ones that the blog owner sells stuff. I wonder if https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/ or other WP plugins have been tested on WPMU so that blog owners could sell stuff too.
In reply to: Password controlled signup?@bostonnorm
I’m creating a website built on top of BuddyPress that could be used for a parents association and at the same time act as a fundraiser for the association as well. I’d love to chat to see what you think of what I’m creating.The secure invites could work also. You could also probably modify a security question plugin to work like this. Usually they ask questions like “What color is grass” or some easy math problem. You could just have the question be, “What’s the code-word?”
In reply to: WP DashBoard- Replacement for Blogging!…There’s not very many good solutions for replacing the dashboard for blogging. The only one I know of is P2 and it only integrates partially with BP from what I understand. If you do a search for P2 you’ll see the discussion about how well it works with BP.
