Take a look through these threads: https://buddypress.org/search/?f=members+only They have a number of different “members only” solution options.
In reply to: Useful plugins requiredhttp://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-profile-setup (replace yourdomain.com with your domain)
That’s the page where you can add more fields that people can fill out at registration and will appear in the person’s profile.
@jeremyrobinson Have you tried the solutions offered in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/email-notification-not-working/?topic_page=1&num=15
In reply to: Useful plugins requiredWhy not just go into profile field setup and add a new field called “Blog URL” where they can enter their blog? Unless I’m misunderstanding what you want to do.
In reply to: How do I edit the Adminbar?@hnla
That page makes quite a lot of sense once you start to understand actions and filters and how they work on WordPress. If you don’t, then it can be confusing. I’m going to add a note at the top that links to the WordPress page for Actions and Filters: https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_APIIn reply to: Auto add new members to group?@dtclarinet
You should also look at: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/welcome-pack/ It’s a great plugin that has lots of Group Add options.Invite Anyone has a feature that’s close to it too: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/invite-anyone/ It just uses the invite to join to add the group based on the invitation.
Make child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
I think the navigation is in header.php
In reply to: SLUGS in BuddypressSome of the more important ones are listed here near the bottom: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
The links look good @digitaldance Thanks for adding them. Best of luck showing off your site.
Sorry. I closed the window on accident. Glad to help you out. This was the plugin which was causing problems: Transposh Translation Filter http://transposh.org/
Ok, it was a plugin that was causing the problem. That’s the problem with having 30 plugins on a BP install. Now Scott just has to go through activating each one to find out which one is causing the problem. Should be interesting to see which one, because it wasn’t one of the sign up plugins mentioned above.
@r-a-y
I had him do the same. Still not working. I’m going to log in and see what else he has running that might be causing the problem. Seems like it happened since he upgraded to WP 3.0 and the latest BP. I think it must be a plugin of some sort that’s conflicting since it’s the default theme.Compare the register.php in your theme with the register.php with the one in the default theme and see what’s different.
If my son goes to bed nicely, I may add you on Yahoo before SYTYCD starts. Mostly cause I appreciate dance.
In reply to: codex.buddpress.org search is returning a blank pageOh dang, I skipped right over the word search. That’s what I get for reading fast.
In reply to: Lost Activation EmailTake an activation URL in the activation email (send yourself a fake one if you don’t have one lieing around). Then, go into something like phpmyadmin. Look at the table for users (it’s different if you’re using WP vs. WPMU) and find the activation key. Replace the key in the URL and now you can use that URL to activate the account.
I’ve also heard rumor that someone might be working on a plugin to deal with this type of situation.
No date yet. Lots of tickets left. See: https://trac.buddypress.org/roadmap I’d expect at least a few months if I was guessing, but you never know unless you get in and start fixing tickets to make it go faster.
In reply to: API Documentation?Nope. Although, it’s often good to consult the WordPress codex as well since all of those functions can be used also.
I’ve also learned to love this piece of code to output what’s being stored in various vars (just replace $bp with the var you want to see):
echo ”";
var_dump($bp);
echo "“;
die;
(the echo should be the pre html code since this won’t display code right)Otherwise, I look at plugins that do similar things to what I want to do to find new code or ask in the forums and sometimes people will answer with the code.
In reply to: codex.buddpress.org search is returning a blank page@caplain
Is it still a problem for you. I was just able to connect no problem. When this happened to me before it was just the main page, but sub pages would open. Try this page: https://codex.buddypress.org/home/ or https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/creating-a-custom-buddypress-component/ and then use the breadcrumb navigation. At least that’s what I had to do before.In reply to: Fishbook HelpGlad it helped @tim-watt.
I’m not sure which visual editor you mean. I assume you mean on pages or posts to the main blog?
The only thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t recognize lists
- stuff when I do that. I imagine that just needs to be styled in the CSS, but I haven’t had time to look into it yet. I will at some point, since lists is a pretty essential thing. I was surprised it wasn’t styled by default.
In reply to: Blogatize.net – The Social Blog NetworkI didn’t see an option to add a blog to the network that already exits. Or do you just want to be a platform for new bloggers?
In reply to: Fishbook HelpCorrect. It does do almost all of the work with a modified CSS. Except the header.gif and a few other minor changes. Plus, by pulling down the header.php file and putting it into the Fishbook folder, then you’re overriding that file too so that you can customize it for your needs.
You could just change the core header.php file, but then when you upgrade BP you’ll have to remember to change the header.php file again since it will get overwritten.
In reply to: PollDaddy + BuddyPress ?You could embed polly daddy polls in various parts of BuddyPress though I think. The plugin’s not integrated though.
In reply to: Fishbook HelpYou’ll have to modify the header.gif file for the logo.
For the menu items, you’ll have to pull the header.php from the parent BP theme (buddypressbp-themesbp-defaultheader.php) and add it to the Fishbook theme folder. Then, you can modify it however you want.
In reply to: new to buddypress – freaking out – need 2 thingsYou actually can give each person their own blog. You just have to use what was previously called WordPress MU (now called Multisite and comes with WordPress 3.0). There’s some extra configuration, but it’s definitely possible.
There’s definitely more configuration with BuddyPress and WordPress MU than Ning, but there’s also more ability to customize as well.
I think BP Album+ has a language file. Can’t you just change the language file and it will change it everywhere? I should also note that in future versions there planning to add videos and other media. So, that’s probably why they used media instead of photos or something.
