Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Function to update databse fields in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 2 months ago
In the nicest way possible, assuming that something you don’t know how to do is easy is a fairly common misconception about how hard or time-consuming a thing is.
Likewise, this question is too general and vague to answer; if you can give details about what exactly your end goal is, perhaps someone here knows of an existing solution or plugin you can use.

I moved the inline CSS into the pastebin link because it made this thread massively long.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic The Best Cache'ing solution for BP? in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 2 months ago
Those two questions aren’t really relevant here. A quick Google search will suggest object caching solutions for WordPress:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/apc/ is one of them, if your web host is using APC. You’ll have to ask them to find this out.

Yes, the https://wordpress.org/ support forums for this plugin will be a better place.

If you’re not already using one, set up an object cache. It’s relatively simple and will be a big improvement for all WordPress things, not just BuddyPress.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Activation key not valid – Have done basic trouble shouting in the forum Showcase 11 years, 2 months ago
BP has a very old bug where some activation keys didn’t work correctly. I have not looked into this for some months but, if I remember correctly, the issue was very hard for a developer to re-produce to be able to try to find out what the bug was.
Also, it’s possible that some site configurations might cause a problem. Does the activation link in…[Read more]

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Two installations have failed in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 2 months ago
This isn’t really a BuddyPress specific problem. You’ve activated a plugin or theme that doesn’t work, and it’s causing these errors.
Reinstall WordPress, then BuddyPress. Use a default WordPress theme. Everything will be fine. Reactive plugins one-by-one until the error comes back. You’ve figured out what plugin(s) are misbehaving, so deactivate…[Read more]

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Problem in buddypress in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 2 months ago
BP Courseware hasn’t been updated in almost a year, and I’m pretty sure that the plugin’s developer isn’t working on the WP plugin any more. The error’s probably caused by some forum changes that happened in BP at least a year ago.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Universal Friendship (or unfriendship) in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 2 months ago
Last I looked, no, it isn’t possible and the code to manually implement such a feature wouldn’t scale very well. Disabling the Friends component in this instance is probably the smart thing to do, like @danbp suggests.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Using directorypress with buddypress in the forum Creating & Extending 11 years, 2 months ago
BuddyPress is compatible with any WordPress theme. So, yes, it will work.
You may need to spend time customising the CSS to make BuddyPress fit your site perfectly or make it appear how you want, but that’s unavoidable.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic No mail send after registration in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 2 months ago
Probably it’s just in the spam folder. The activation email quite often seems to be marked as spam, unfortunately.
Mail server configuration can be tricky and I’d suggest you also contact your web host for support, as there may be other configuration changes that you or the host could make to improve the chances of the email being received correctly.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Bugs between bbpress and Buddypress in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 2 months ago
It’s unfair to say that we (the developers) are denying it. If we can recreate an issue, then it’s something we can fix. If we can’t recreate the issue but you can, it means we’re not testing in exactly the same way that you are, or that there’s something specific to your WordPress installation that’s affecting BuddyPress in some way. Clear,…[Read more]

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Forms plugins for Buddypress in the forum Third Party Plugins 11 years, 2 months ago
Not aware of any BP-specific form plugins, but hopefully the majority of existing plugins will work — obviously the issue is how you want them integrated, which I guess is the issue you ran into.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic bp-custom.php vs. functions.php in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 4 months ago
With the update to BP 1.7.3 is bp-custom.php no longer a valid way to make configuration settings changes?
It depends on the change. See https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/customizing/bp-custom-php/ for some more info. We haven’t changed how bp-custom.php is handled, so things should still work IF they used to work.

Paul Wong-Gibbs replied to the topic Using bp_group_list_admins() in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 4 months ago
Where exactly is “anywhere else”? This function needs to be inside the Groups template loop, and group-header.php is always inside that. Other parts of your template may not be.
