Ooh. Hi @paddy33! Sounds like you’ve got yourself an interesting challenge. I’m very interested to keep in touch to learn about what it’s like to upgrade a site between these versions.
My initial thoughts:
1)
template-user-account.phpis not/has never been the name of a template part bundled with any version of BuddyPress, so we’re dealing with a custom theme integration, which will make things a bit trickier for us to help (since we can’t see its code).2) While the Original site might be BP 1.7.2, it doesn’t mean the templates were built with *that* version; it could have launched on 1.5 or 1.6, etc. In this case, it’s quite possible theme compatibility was explicitly disabled.
Does this line appear anywhere in your codebase?
add_theme_support( 'buddypress' );3) I think you’re going to have to debug (hopefully in a development environment or development server)
bp_core_load_templateand compare where its looking for a template vs. where the template actually is.In reply to: Error in Release Candidate 2.5The cause is most likely going to be some other plugin or some code in your theme. Was there any extra information in that error log? If there’s only what you provided, there’s not enough information to help. (Try toggling plugins on/off one at a time until the issue goes away?)
In reply to: HOW CAN I WRITE MENTION IN BUDDYPRESS?If the Friends component is enabled, you’ll first need some friends. 🙂
After that, just type an
@sign and start typing. You should get a drop-down with suggestions.I assume you’ve tried other images — i.e. it’s not a problem with the one image you have been testing with?
I’m not sure, this is pretty odd.
@imath Any ideas?
In reply to: Customize email templatesThe email stuff is in 2.5. It’s due out at the start of March.
In reply to: Hooking into settings updateIt doesn’t look like there’s a function to clear those messages, but if you empty the global directly (
bp->template_messageand$bp->template_message_type), you’ll see thatbp_core_add_messagesets a cookie, so you’ll probably need to clear those cookies, too.It sounds like this should work.
In reply to: Users receive lost password mail after registrationIt shouldn’t be doing this. I’d carry on by seeing if it’s related to any custom code in your theme or any other plugin or customisation you’ve made.
I’m 99% sure BuddyPress does not itself send the Lost Password email (or trigger any code that does that), so my suspicion is in another plugin. Do you have anything customising wp-login.php (the log-in screen)? That’s where the Lost Password email is usually sent from.
In reply to: Image cover profile and groups for defaultAs these features are pretty new, there mightn’t be any existing plugins that offer this. I’m not sure it’s likely someone will spend the time reading the code and figuring it out to reply here unless you’ve started looking at the PHP yourself, in which case, let me know how far you got, and we’ll see if we can figure it out together.
So the same image can be uploaded OK to the media library, but not BuddyPress? Very odd. How big is this image? (in resolution, and file size)
In reply to: Registration not workingIt looks like you’ve tried all the normal investigative things, so thanks.
Not sure without debugging the code — but why does registration on your site take me to http://192.241.173.232/wordpress/register/ ? Totally different URL etc.
I wonder if that has something to do with it.
EDIT: is this your testing still? Do you have two different WordPress sites?
In reply to: Can i attach a file on private messaging?I don’t know how well it works, but I found https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-message-attachment/ from a quick search.
In reply to: Customize email templatesYes, the new stuff is pretty close to testing. I will come back here and add some screenshots once I’ve progressed the work to testing stage so everyone can see it
While this doesn’t help much, it’s an issue with bbPress, not BuddyPress.
We can’t support the Followers plugin here.
About the groups tag, I thought we fixed the
no-countissue recently. What version of BuddyPress are you using?@imath any idea if we need to change the name sync stuff for new WP?
In reply to: Customize email templatesQuit recommending Welcome Pack!! It hasn’t been updated in 4 years!! I would be surprised if it works.
In reply to: get_post_meta doesn’t work in activity streamThere is no reason why a call to
get_post_metashould not work. Are you certain the post ID you are passing to it is valid, and that the record with the meta_key, exists? In reply to: Buddypress.org my profile setting and imageHi Steve
It’s not meant to work. We need to update buddypress.org to remove/hide those options. Sorry for the confusion.
In reply to: bp-activity-oldestpage cookieIt’s to do with the pagination for the Activity Directory screen.
If you have more than 20 activity items (by default), you get a “load more” bar/button at the bottom of the Activity Directory. BuddyPress uses this cookie to store the current “page” of results that you’re on (so it doesn’t load duplicates).
In reply to: Problems with “subscription page” on my websiteYou’ve said “not anymore”, implying it used to work.
What have you changed since it stopped working?Looking at the DOM, I see a “surname” field wrapped in double(!)
fonttags, so something’s clearly been customised which you need to address: http://cl.ly/1A2p0u253q14Watch also your custom CSS. You have this which is directly causing the labels to be hidden:
label { display: none; margin-bottom: 5px; font-weight: 700; }In reply to: Buddypress and IPV6wp_bb_postsis bbPress 1, *not* BuddyPress. 🙂I don’t know if there’s anyone interesting in working on that old versions of bbPress any more. If you haven’t already, I’d suggest posting on https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ so that at least the issue is logged.
In reply to: is it possible? to export? Not possible out of the box. Not sure about plugins.
In reply to: button is unresponsive + a few other issuesHi @josephz94
Users can upload profile pictures (in theory) however I was not able to upload a picture. I kept getting a http error.
Do you do anything like upload the media library onto Amazon S3 or some other cloud service?
-the Favorite button was unresponsive
It sounds you’ve got several button problems. Do you know how to look at your web browser’s Javascript error console, and see if there is any output? (On page load, and also when you try to click the button)
BuddyPress Activity Plus
Have you tested disabling this plugin to see if it had any affect?
Buddy press is activated on a per site basis in a multi-site, multi-network installation.
Multi-network is a pretty advanced configuration, so to cover bases, it would be interesting to know what you’ve done to enable multi-network in both WordPress and BuddyPress, please?
In reply to: HTML or WYSIWYG in text profile fields?2.4’s out now.
In reply to: HTML or WYSIWYG in text profile fields?BuddyPress 2.4 — probably due out this week — changes multi-line text area fields to use TinyMCE, like the WordPress post editor.
