In reply to: sidebar disappears in groups
@dwsowash – is this JUST the groups pages, but your other pages do have stuff in the sidebar?
I assume you have widgets added to both the “primary sidebar” and “content sidebar” (?)
What screen resolution are you using? with my 2014 setup, the sidebars move / disappear at different screen sizes… so that could be an issue that you are seeing (?)
In reply to: Extracting Group Forum Topic Info for Metatags@antonydennis – So this is more of a “BBpress” question I guess – which has a different support group you may want to search at the bbpress forums.
@vintagepornbay – the BP peeps around here really want people to add big text like “NSFW” – “ADULT SITE” – when posting in regards to such things when they include links to check out things.
I guess you are talking about the login / register in the very top admin bar disappearing at mobile media query?
I am sure there is info about the admin bar and missing at mobile with 2015 theme somewhere on the net – likely in the wp org forums.. or a plugin to override that.
Rather than spend time on that.. I would suggest that you add a register / login field in the sidebar widgets.. most regular people are not going to be attracted to the login register in tiny little text way off the screen.. in my experience, even posting an image tutorial showing people how to access the login and bp hover menu – they all preferred an actual on screen menu item in top nav bar, and in the login / register sidebar..
question for you – maybe it’s just the way it’s written, but your sidebar says “Secured by McAfee SiteAdvisor and Norton Safeweb.” perhaps you mean “Secure” – not “Secured” – unless you have those systems actually doing securing?
anyhow, I see now you have some login / register stuff in your sidebar as well, and when you get to smaller screen with the 2015 theme, the whole sidebar turns into a stupid hamburger menu.
Rather than post a long list of why 2015 was one of the worst decisions of.. well, let me suggest you switch to the 2014 theme and see how it’s bars act on various sizes.. it’s not an awesome theme, but I think it behaves better for most things, and may solve the issue in which you are describing.
In reply to: format issues and spam@mrkipling789 – I think there is a thing at top of admin screen – like “screen options” and you can click that to pull down a menu where you might be able to change the number of users / groups seen on the screen at one time (?)
@niranjanchouhan – given that sweetdate is a premium theme, you will need to contact those theme developers for support with issues like that.
In 99% of cases around here (at buddypress dot org) you will find no help with premium themes and plugins. There are many reasons for that. People posting questions about premium accounts and premium themes just waste space here and get people kind of.. not happy.
I have been looking at some options to restrict private messaging to certain groups of users, and there was a recent form post here about limited certain groups of users to a certain amount of private messaging. Which I think are great topics.. however the only options I have seen with details on doing that are premium / paid options.
If you find a free plugin or code that gets into these kinds of restrictions I’d love to see that conversation here at the BP forums.. however if you only have experience with that one theme, then I’ll pass. I’m looking for something like that that will work with multiple themes.
In reply to: Private Messaging Limit with Membership plans@ahmed-dogan – if you find this somewhere, I’d love to get some details on doing the same thing.
If you find someone that can code it I may be willing to split to cost or something..
Are you looking at hooking into the buddypress membership levels or using a separate membership thing like s2 member or something else?
In reply to: HTML or WYSIWYG in text profile fields?@djpaul – Wholy! Bleep!
So it may be easier for me to add two new buttons to the comment replies things all around buddypress in the near future?! IS the wordpress editor button API )think it came out like 3 versions ago?) going to flow through to this in BP?
So glad to see this!
@redgard
seems to be a similar question with a couple of intersting answers here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/html-or-wysiwyg-in-text-profile-fields/@adalinka – Either way you should be able to make pages named memberz or whatever – recover one named members – doesn’t matter if bp creates them – you should be able to associate them and everything work with bp right?
The pages are probably already in your dashboard – pages – view all – just not associated (?)

In reply to: Buddypress pages not showing in Menu sectionThis issue was brought up a few months ago.. hmm.. for that person it runed out to be a theme issue – but I think one of the things brought up to check it…
on the menus page – click “screen options” tab at top right and make sure there is a check in checkbox for “show buddypress stuff” – or something like that.
In reply to: functions search on wordpress“functions search” – maybe take a look at hooker.io
In reply to: functions search on wordpress“BuddyPress Global Search”
“Bp profile search”
I guess is what you may be wondering about.
In reply to: How to add Captcha in Buddypress Register Form?I would suggest you skip the captcha on registration and instead use something like
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-humanity/or the plugin “good question”
There is another similar to those.. in my experience these work 100 times better in preventing spam registrations..
I also use “ip geo block”
These took my spam fighting down from hours a day to a minutes a week.
In reply to: Buddypress pages not working@debabratsharma – go to settings – permalinks… note what they are set to.
change to some other permalinks setting.
click save
then change back to other permalinks setting.
savemight be the fix you need.
*you could check that wp is actually writing to your htaccess file – that’s an issue once in a moon)In reply to: Setting full-width template for groupsyou could (although this theme is quite tricky with the various sizing things, and I am NOT an expert with this theme or css – so make backups, use child themes – all that jazz)
you could try changing (or overwriting with child theme / enque an overlap style sheet)
@media screen and (min-width: 1218px) { .site-content, .site-main .widecolumn { margin-left: 222px; } }to:
@media screen and (min-width: 1218px) { .site-content, .site-main .widecolumn { margin-left: 90px; } }and..
.buddypress .site-content article .entry-content, .buddypress .site-content article .entry-header { max-width: 100%; padding: 0px 10% 5%; }change to
.buddypress .site-content article .entry-content, .buddypress .site-content article .entry-header { padding: 0px 1% 5%; }– now of course how these settings affect the groups page is one thing this could cause ill effects on other pages – (ones with double sidebars) – and at different screen sizes.. this 2014 thing gets pretty picky..
especially with 2014 doing one thing, and the bp-addon style thing doing some other things.. one percentage change here looks good – but a different page at a difference screen size – grrr.. you have to test a lot with this mix (come to find out the hard way here the past couple weeks!)
This will add a lot more space, which is what I guess you are going for in general – but not remove all sidebars..
and
That does not get rid of the left sidebar, which is I guess what you were meaning to ask in the first place with this thread (and I think everyone else was assuming you wanted to get rid of the right sidebar, as our understanding of the term “full width page” – err template in my mind is just that.. looks like you really want a “no sidebars at all page template” for groups page?In reply to: Setting full-width template for groupsgrr – typos at midnight… should be NOW that I am digging deeper into 2014,,
In reply to: Setting full-width template for groups@danbp –
am I to understand – that you would make a buddypress.php and have just like:
<?php if( !bp_is_groups_component() ) { get_sidebar( 'content' ); } ?>or maybe copy the page.php code and put it all into a new file buddypress.php – and add the code
if( !bp_is_groups_component() ) { get_sidebar( 'content' ); }to buddypress.php maybe in the head of it?
BP’s content comes full-width on 2014
Actually with my 2014 themed bp site I get a left and right sidebar on large monitor, it does not get into bp stuff taking full side space width until the screen shrinks to.. I dunno 1008 pix or so (one of those media queries)
So I think this code you are suggesting would indeed be useful with 2014 as well.
I have been looking a couple of plugins like ‘dynamic sidebars’ (maybe it was dynamic widgets) – and ‘content aware sidebars’ – one of these I saw recently says is plays well with BP – and I was thinking one of these may be able to solve some common problems that bp peeps run into in regards to wanting to change content on the various psueodo pages.. however I am not sure that any of those plugins would remove all widgets from the sidebar on some pages, and if they DID.. would that make theme X go full width for that area anyhow? not likely, but it’s a nice dream.
Anyhow thanks for the info I might test this out a bit not that I am digging deeper into 2014 and bp..
In reply to: Setting full-width template for groupsadjunkten – I wish someone would of answered this question – it would help others figure out if that documentation is old and no good, or what… maybe someone else has already answered this exact question in the forums here recently and that is why no one has answered (?)
Have you tried searching the forums to see if there has been another answer to this exact question recently?
In reply to: Strange change to page layout@venutius – yeah wordpress is weird in that it uses a “theme” to handle how the backend admin dashboard does things, and I have no idea where those things are decided in the backend – but indeed it’s kind of weird how that is basically hidden from the backend – no notice of “your current theme is enhancing how the admin dashboard looks / behaves”
In reply to: “Walled Garden” mode@yespapa – there have been several posts in the forums about restricting views of various pages based upon logged in / logged out. I can’t remember any of the solutions, if there were any at this moment.
I think you need to establish first which pages will be viewable by public / not viewable unless logged in – and make sure your language is correct / thorough.
eg – in wordpress world “pages” are like “static pages” – they end up in nav menus, not in the blog “loop” – etc.. blog posts are posts.. and in bp world stuff like profiles, groups, are kind of “pseudo pages” – which are not easy to hide with standard user role / permission plugins like “press permit core” – and I’m not sure if s2member has started to be able to lockdown bp’s psuedo pages..
there are some details posted by others in the other threads that have alredy discussed this kind of thing.
@proforma_jec – given that wpmudev’s stuff (most of it anyway) is premium / paid things – you are likely to get little help with their stuff here at bp dot org.. the good thing for you is that wpmudev peeps are usually pretty quick to answer questions there, and generally come up with good solutions quickly as well. I’d suggest you ask about this via their support forums.
In reply to: Buddypress “Logged In” Menu Items Not Manifesting@deklein – One more thing – have you taken the steps to “create a new menu” and save and all that?
the wordpress menus thing is not the most eloquent as far as UX ihmo. Sometimes you gotta select a menu from the dropdown and click select and wait.. not everyone is going to know they need to click select to actually make something happen..@deklein
starting a new thread for the exact same issue is rude and wastes precious support time (of which we have very little around here) – please keep it in the same thread: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-logged-in-menu-items-not-manifesting/@mods please delete this one.
In reply to: Buddypress “Logged In” Menu Items Not Manifesting@deklein – it certainly would not hurt, and would be pretty fast and easy to make a backup of your entire wordpress install (all files on server, maybe a zipped folder) – then delete your buddypress plugin and all your default themes.. reinstall a fresh 2014 theme and buddypress – activate and test. Very strange that those do not show up with all other plugins disabled while switched to 2014 theme – and you even checked screen options..
I would say before trying that I would try to mess with that menu using a different browser.. sometimes things work in firefox that do not work in chrome.. sometimes a browser plugin blocks something from loading somewhere that you may not find is an issue when using Internet Explorer..
