    Hi,

    I totally agree we need more options for controlling the activity stream. The column where the activity is in on testbp.org has a min-width property and if you reduce the window to that min-width, nested reply’s from 7+ just gets cut off.

    Just like you said I think it would be nice if you could choose between:

    – Enable/disable nested reply’s

    – Enable/disable nested reply’s in certain types of activity updates

    – Limit nested reply’s

    – Hide functionality

    ect.

    Right now you have to use a very wide column in your theme design in order to take advantage of nested reply’s. So the activity has to have a lot of space meaning less space to other elements and less space to make new creative layouts if your forced to use nested reply’s.

    I’m not sure everyone is interested in nested reply’s in their community business model either.

    I just want to agree on the confusion between user- and display names. I don’t think this will ever be crystal clear to a regular user. Like if I was to @ myself on testbp.org – not knowing about the difference between user- and displaynames – and a totally different name showed up in the message-textfield, I would probably get confused and think something like:

    – Is this notification being sent to the intended user?

    – Should I rename @nameA to @nameB because @nameB is the name I see in the profile? (When in fact the right answer is @nameA)

    – This is too confusing to continue (fallout).

    Just trying to imagine how users would react on this feature. Not saying this feature is bad, but I’ve said from the beginning that it should be more user friendly and I probably don’t need to say that the user- and displaynames confusion are bugging a whole lot of users.

    Interesting redesign…

    Love the simplicity of the design. Looks like they got a bit of inspiration from Apple. :)

    Especially the big photos in the gallery, the wall, calendar (looks like iCal) and horizontal sliding effects (iPhone style) using ajax are nice.

    I think users should somehow be able to write messages on other users profile. (Not just through the private messaging system).

    I somehow like how Facebook works where you can write messages on users profile – via the activity stream or ‘a wire’ – I don’t really care!

    The point is, I think it’s a nice feature if you want to write “specific messages for specific users” and you don’t want the messages to be 100% private (like through the messaging system).

    Others should be able to see the personal message as well if they go visit that profile. (It does not necessary needs to be part of the Site Wide activity stream. Maybe if you could even choose if it should or not).

    The Wire was like a guestbook and I kinda liked that. And I thought the activity stream commenting would somehow melt together with The Wire. Or maybe there’s a better solution for this.

    I’m sure Andy will find the best solution for this. ;)

    Sounds good with merging the 3 features. Like on Facebook where status updates, “the wire” and activity has been merged into 1 social stream. Works well. :)

    I agree, the new Popular Group Forums loop is awesome. The forum is just getting better and better. Great job Andy. :)

    Jeff:

    1. Which version of WPMU are you running?

    2.8.4a

    2. Did you install WPMU as a directory or subdomain install?

    directory

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?

    subdirectory (domain.com/designs/wpmu)

    4. Did you upgraded from a previous version of WPMU? If so, from which version?

    No I made a clean install

    5. Was WPMU functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress?

    Yes. Login was working fine. When I installed buddypress I couldnt login from the buddybar login. It looks for wp-admin.php in the root instead of in the directory “designs/wpmu/” where wp-admin.php is located.

    6. Which version of BuddyPress (BP) are you running?

    1.1 beta

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?

    No clean install

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated?

    Only Buddypress

    9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes?

    Standard that comes with buddypress

    10. Have you modified the core files in any way?

    No

    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?

    No

    12. If running bbPress, which version?

    bbpress 1.0.2

    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files.

    When logging in from the buddybar it cant find wp-admin.php as its looking for the file in domain.com and not in the correct location which is domain.com/designs/wpmu where wp-admin.php is located.

    When clicking login I get the message “No input file specified.”

    I even tried making a clean install once again. Same problem with buddybar!

    It’s weird, if I login from the top nav. bar I get the “No input file specified” error but if I view a profile and log in using the login-fields inside a profile, I can log in without problems.

    Is it just my buddybar which is messed up or is this a bug.

    I received a spam message from rita4u as well.

    Those kind of messages seems to appear on lots of communities nowadays, I guess its impossible to remove them automatically. :/

    I Love the Dashboard Andy! Been waiting for something like that which gives a complete overview of the site that i’m involved in and activity.

    Maybe it could even be the first page you see (instead of the profile page) when you click your own username… Making it more visible and easy to customize (Maybe widgetize it in future versions).

    I hope the Dashboard can be implemented in the next/future version of the member theme as a standard.

    Nirok: If I goto your site http://spoodle.co.nz/3/ and I click the ‘Forum’ link, that link dosen’t come up as “selected / highlighted” like the other links.

    We still need a solution on how to make it highlight when the link is active, just as when you click into https://buddypress.org/forums/.

    Hi Burt,

    Yes this works in the default bp-theme that comes with BP 1.0 but I do not think it’s been fixed in the skeleton theme yet. :(

    Thanks Tutsie!

    Can anyone maybe extend Tutsie’s code so the class=”selected” (menu link highlight) works??

    I remember Andy said he would fix this in a different post. Althrough I do not think this has been resolved in the latest skeleton theme yet.

    What im interested in is actually 2 things:

    – Understanding how these 3 pages works in general. Do they belong to the bp-member or bp-home theme or both.

    – Figuring out how I create a copy of lets say the Member page, then give that page an entire new name/slug.

    Thanks alot. Just had to put the float on #userbar ul#bp-nav li a { and change the box size on #userbar ul#bp-nav {

    Shouldnt be too hard to figure out how to move the rest around now. :)

    Hi Jeff,

    I tried replacing the original .htaccess file with the one that comes with WPMU. It didnt change anything through.

    Here’s what it looks like now (My website/BP is currently located in a subdirectory under designs/website/:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /designs/website/

    #uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/$ index.php [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$
    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule . - [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    <Files async-upload.php>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </Files>
    </IfModule>
