Maybe you will find this info from the Google SoC site interesting @derekbolden:

    Student Name: Kunal Bhalla
    Mentor Name: John Jacoby
Title: Events Plugin for WordPress and BuddyPress
Abstract: Events have become an integral part of Social Networking; this plugin would also be useful for WordCamp.org – allowing people to handle WordCamp registration through the WordCamp site itself, etc.

This plugin will provide basic event functionality for plain vanilla WordPress installs and enhanced capabilities for BuddyPress installs by leveraging the new WordPress Custom post types and moving on from that.

I have a low priority request:

Chosing what license pictures are published under.

    1. Let admin choose the default license. E.g. Creative commons

    2. Let users decide which license their pictures are published under. (For example, see flickr.com)

Ah, competition! I was waiting for your site to make the switch to BP. :)

I really like you integration with your theme.

Anyways, best of luck with your site!

Why are you spamming every feature request post erich73?

This the “Ideas” forum, and it where people post new ideas. Just because you have your opinion that devs should “stop all new features” that doesn´t necessarily mean that everybody shares your opinion. Please stop forcing your opinions on others….

    So +1 for me!

Ok, obviously there are the possibilitiy of information overflow, but that does not mean you shouldn´t have the option of turning notifications on. In Cartwrights plugin you can choose what you want the users to be notified of. For some bbpress installations, being notified of e.g. forum replies to a topic you started, is feasible – for larger ones they may not be.

Let´s take facebook as an example:

You don´t get notified of every wallpost in a group. Why not? Because you would have 200 new notifications every day if you are a member of a popular group.

But you do get notified if a friends comments on your wall, or if someone comments on a post that you also commented on. This keeps the conversation going and is a good way of keeping up with things you find interesting etc.

Apparantly, notifcations in the buddybar can be done with a plugin, since Andy has made it possible for plugins to plug in to the notifications area. In light of this information I am not advocating this having to be in core. If it where to be in core, I can understand only wanting the notifications to be “citical only”. But as a plugin I don´t see a problem with having the option to allow notifications of comment replies, forum replies etc. An option regarding forum replies could be to have a “do not notify me of furter updates” link if you are not interested in the forumpost anymore.

There is always a fine line with giving people enough info and too much info, but I suggest that it should be up to each admin to decide what works best for his community.

    Any more thoughts?

@mikepratt. Sorry, I see now that I wasn´t completely clear. What I meant was notifications in the buddybar. (Like when you get a new friend request or a new IM in buddypress, not e-mail notifications.

@Andy. So the foundations for the notification system is in place? Nice. If I understand you correctly, you could e.g. modify Boone’s & D Cartwright’s plugin to notify thorugh the buddybar instead of e-mails (or both)?

“False consensus effect – the tendency for people to overestimate the degree to which others agree with them.”

I don´t know if “STOP feature polls” was meant as a joke or not, but I can´t really see why this is a problem (if you are serious). People have different opinions on what is the most important features that should be developed, and what should be included in core.

For instance, letting users be able to post to blogs from the frontpage sounds like a perfect plugin match for me, as I have no real need for that. Still I don´t go around making several posts (saw you posted at the dev site as well) about how devs should STOP working on frontpage blogposting and focus on xxx feature instead.

Maybe the false concensus effect have blinded you a bit my friend.

To me it is important to keep in mind that testbp.org has over 15 000 users. We all have different plans for buddypress. ;)

The way the dev team are trying to figure out what to develop next seems like a fair way to me:

(1)First getting suggestions, (2)then adding their professional opinion on what should be devoloped next and lastly (3) letting the users again be a part of the process by allowing us to vote on what we want the most. This will hopefully allow the highest percentage of people to be pleased.

EDIT: I was a bit slow you posted your reply in the mean time Erich.

No problem. I would suggest mentioning the WPMU requirement on https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-wiki/ as well. :)

Does the plugin require WPMU or does it work with standard WP?

I got the error “Fatal error: Call to undefined function wpmu_create_blog()” on my WP 2.9.1 installation, so it seems to me that you need WPMU :(

Thanks alot for the wikiplugin. I can´t wait to play with it!
