This will take you years to achieve adequate app like privacy. There’s other ways these days besides buddy press. A few years ago, no one really cared to provide real privacy options with buddypress because to them it defeated the purpose and was suspicious. One volunteer took it on and eventually gave up.
Moved on.
@mercime The”membership” option in the image on the link you posted.
Turning off Extended Profiles removed the second two “profiles”.
Ok. I have a plugin called More Privacy Options and “make this site visible only to registered users” was selected, which apparently includes the registration page, meaning the main site has to be public which defeats the purpose.
No “membership” anywhere, not on my site admin, not in no settings (no “general”).
I’m using wp 4.3.1 and twenty fifteen theme.
I’ve tried updating, deleting and reinstalling. It still shows the homepage.
The url wp-signup.php works when no is deleted, but I can’t add .php to the slug of the bo set pg to make it work that way if it would. There is no “membership” option in general on my main site.
I’ve setup the bp register and activate pg and selected “allow users to
register” in my network settings. Register goes the the login page and clocking the register link on there goes to page not found. Are there shortcodes available?
Thank you. Now I just need to confirm what the permission should be for bb_config.
I was hacked last week and the current setup is from a restored back up that my host had. However some parts like the hackers user account was still there and a few things were strangely still readjusting all week. The forums were working after I cleared things up but going back to the BuddyPress ‘Forums Setup’ in wp-admin and reinstalling the forum config has worked. Thanks.
This resetting has happened to me before about a month ago with bp pages , they were suddenly unavailable and I had to reset them. Is there another cause for this perhaps to do with the new bp component setup? When I was hacked my host said that there was a compromise in a function in the code. BP upgrade was the only major change and now settings have turned off twice.
..I wait as well
It requires wp 3.3
This has been a old question with BP. There a plugins to disable most feeds such as “disable rss” , the activity feed cannot be turned off but you can redirect that link with redirect plugin. I was told that the icons have to be removed manually , so look for it in the themes files.
I’m looking for this too. (Plugins related to bbpress itself can be found at https://bbpress.org/plugins/) .
@hlna . I also use manual approve with welcome pack to stop users from activating themselves. Manual approve works properly with the the new custom community bp theme, no header problems. ( I just have issues with welcome pack now since bp’s upgrade, one thing fixes and the other falters).
I’m using Manually approve plugin for this. It’s not in the wordpress gallery but works on MU. My only problem is that I get thise error with bp themes:” Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_page_title() in /home/thebaman/public_html/wp-content/themes/custom-community/header.php on line 11″ Any suggestions? Here’s the plugin link : http://mattkern.com/wpmu-manually-approve-new-members-on-local-install/
There’s Private files plugin (not sure if it’s for bbpress) https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-files/ or
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-files-for-social-privacy/There is Private rss plugin that uses authentication https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-rss/ (Not sure how it would work for groups)
Actually, I have a number of blogs blocking search engines and their posts still show up in activity until choosing “Disable activity stream commenting …” stops blog posts and comments from showing up. I’m trying the opposite of your goal, but to stop posts of only particular blogs from showing up in the feed (May not be possible since bp settings must be site wide ). Should you figure out what was it was exactly , I’d like to create that problem per blog.
I found the list under notifications settings.

This absolutely worked. Thank you much for all of your speedy responses.
Wp- private claims to do this (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-private/).
