    You’re right…my thoughts were that if a “master forum”-type plugin never really made it, maybe your group management could accomplish the same thing.

    All it would need is a an admin menu for group forums where everyone was automatically a member, and then the possible renaming of these forums from “group forums” to “you-pick-a-name forums”

    Easy huh? If I knew the first thing about coding I’d make it myself…:)

    Any way we can get check boxes by member’s names to add multiple members to a group at once?

    Also, i wonder if there could be some integration here with a master-forum (like we’ve been discussing here https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/use-forums-without-groups)

    maybe adding the “auto group join” features in to this.

    Just some thoughts. I appreciate your plugins lots.

    Rich,

    2 more dumb questions…

    First, where is the “@ mentions” part in the BBCode that @3sixty is referring to?

    Second, should we be activating both BBCode and Shortcode sub-plugins?

    My bbpress install is inside buddypress (so not external).

    Thanks!

    Thanks Rich!

    Don’t want to be tinkering with this every time there is a buddypress upgrade…

    Dumb child theme question here for your code…

    If I create the same groups/single/forum/ folder arrangement in my child theme, then copy topic.php there and make your changes, will that work?

    Can you recommend any sites where I can see it working and try it out?

    Anyone want to work on Boone’s plugin idea?

    I’ve gotta think this would be really popular…

    One quick thought…if you haven’t thought of this already…

    There should be a cap of maybe 25 or so people that can be invited at any one time. No spamming ;)

    Thanks for jumping in to clarify the issue a bit. FWIW, I’m a $30 member and an happy to pay. I use several of your plugins in my community and have been happy with their performance and with your communication and responses on your site.

    I would hope that a small membership fee wouldn’t result in a plugin getting shunned by the rest of the community.

    Each plugin has its strong points. In light of the above exchange, has anyone made a firm decision to build their community with one instead of the other?

    My bias is to stick with BP Gallery, because I’m already using it, it works, and I’ve been impressed with Brajesh. I don’t see a reason to change…but given the excitement here for BP Album, I want to make sure I’m not missing something :)

    @bowe

    that was my understanding as well.

    @foxly

    Are you against BP Gallery because it’s not yet free? Or because you think BP Album is a superior product?

    I am imagining that there are a lot of you who are in the same situation as me with a newer-but-growing community. I would expect that migrating from BP Gallery to BP Album down the road will be tough. That’s why I was looking to see if there was one that had the general backing of the community.

    At this point, does anyone feel that BP Album is a better product to launch in a live community?

    Thanks for the input.

    So far, i think BP Gallery works well. The only complaints I’ve heard have to do with the fact that you have to by a $30 membership to get it.

    At this point, it seems like BP Gallery has a lot more features and functions working properly. But, if the community will be working to support BP Album+, more than Brajesh, then maybe I should jump ship before it’s too late.

    This seems worth of its own discussion, so I started one:

    Do you mean the “auto group join” plugin?

    @gregfielding

    Participant

    Mike,

    Yeah…after playing around with this, it doesn’t do what i was hoping. It would be handy to have a plugin that simply auto-selects the “my friends” tab when a user logs is…but where they could still click on the “all members” tab to see everything.

    But this plugin effectively turn makes the “my friends” and “all members” tabs show the same info.

    That’s my feedback anyway…

    @Boone – my bad.

    I agree the whole point is to have it on the profile page. I only meant to say that automatically pulling contacts from facebook or email accounts sounds complicated…a great option for someday…but not necessary from the get-go.

    thanks!

    @r-a-y

    In a perfect world, it would be nice to have both, fully-integrated. In some communities, there are some forum subjects that apply to everyone…for example, Support Forums.

    It would be nice NOT to have to join a separate “support” group to participate.

    I do buy that group forums are the way of the future…but i see a need for non-group forums as well.

    Facestream sounds great and I’ll certainly be using it when it’s out. But isn’t the whole point of FB Connect that new members could sign up via their facebook login?

    two different subjects, no?

    Just curious…I’ve just started using Brajesh’s BP Gallery plugin…which seems to be working fine…has anyone tried them both that could explain the pros and cons?

    Before my users get too attached, I want to make sure I shouldn’t switch.

    I don’t think this needs to be too complicated. Even just a version of dev-premium’s “send invites” plugin, where people can invited anyone they want from their dashboard.

    All it needs is a field to manually enter email addresses (facebook sharing could happen later) and a place to type a message…with maybe a default “come check out my _______ profile”

    @gregfielding

    Maybe make this an option in the next version :)

    Thanks again Sarah

    Cool…I’m thinking that it’s still best for fresh visitors to see all activity, not just admin activity…i don’t want it to look like there is only one member!

    Thanks Sarah!

    @gregfielding

    Is there a way to set the default to show all activity when not logged in?

    @gregfielding

    Boone,

    one request…make the button text customizable.

    Some networks might want friends, others colleagues, etc.

    @gregfielding

    Cool. I’m really excited for this!

    Boone,

    Because the Profile page is kind of a central hub – with spokes out for blogs, groups, activity, links, etc – it makes sense to me that this is the page that members would want their friends to check out.

    Of course, I can see members wanting to invite friends to check out a group as well…

    Sounds like 2 plugins?

    @gregfielding

    hmmm…just mu.

    But i know a lot of you guys are talking about creating Hybrid child themes :)
