Do you have a link to your website?
In reply to: [Resolved] Photo ProfileMost likely this is because your theme is displaying an enlarged version of a tiny image.
See this link which shows you how to customise the default BuddyPress avatar sizes: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/guides/customizing-buddypress-avatars/
In reply to: Persian support buddypress@mercime great stuff π
Hi @shibl
As far as I know, you’ll need to edit your theme’s templates to make sure the link destination changes. i.e. there’s no easy way of doing this globally via something like functions.php
In reply to: This is why we can’t have nice thingsBut the warning msg, what ever the allowed links will be, is important.
Yep! It confused me that my post didn’t show up. I even submitted two or three times without success. Then it occurred to me my post had 3 links in it so that might have been the problem. A pop up message would have saved me trying to double or triple submit
In reply to: [Resolved] 3 column layoutActually @hnla, you’ve inspired me to not use Bootstrap for my next project! Bootstrap has always been the go-to solution for me, but let’s see how I get on without it π
In reply to: [Resolved] 3 column layout@hnla I know, I’m very lazy π
In reply to: [Resolved] 3 column layoutAlternatively to @hnla’s suggestion, you could utilise something like Bootstrap’s grid system to achieve this.
In reply to: Restrict private messagesHi @zorro1965
There’s a hook available in BuddyPress called
messages_message_before_savewhich can be used to do things before a message is sent. So, you could write a function which checks to see if a member has authorisation to send a message and bail if not. You’d simply hook your function tomessages_message_before_saveSee here for more info on how to utilise hooks.
In reply to: This is why we can’t have nice things@danbp I noticed that too. A couple of times I’ve included more than 2 links as references and was unable to post.
In reply to: Our Member Posts Pages Not Showing in BuddypressThe excerpt you posted is CSS. Unfortunately, that will have nothing to do with posting a notification to a list of members.
The functionality is likely to be either:
- a plugin: Check the list of plugins you have installed by going to wp-content/plugins or you can check your list of plugins via the WP admin area
- code in your active theme’s functions.php file. This can be found by going to wp-content/themes/your-theme/functions.php
- code in some custom template file you have (could be anywhere in your theme’s directory).
- in an optional file called bp-custom.php which resides at wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php (you may not have one)
Hope this helps you look in the right places?

In reply to: Converting a LINK function to display Image instead.I was hoping someone could point me to the code that handles the conversion of an address you type in to LINK
Sorry for me seeming dumb, but I really am not sure what you mean by this? Your web browser interprets the
<img>tag and renders the image on screen if that’s what you mean? The BuddyPress code is on GitHub if that’s any help. See here
In reply to: Converting a LINK function to display Image instead.I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to do, but, I did manage to post an image as an activity comment. See here
I used
<img src="http://placehold.it/350x150" />In reply to: TypeError: jq.cookie is not a functionHi @bmatth1
TypeError: jq.cookie is not a function
Which code (and line number) does this error relate to?
Regarding your jQuery sliders, is that a WP plugin etc? A little info about that would be helpful too.
In reply to: Our Member Posts Pages Not Showing in BuddypressThe functionality you describe seems to be custom (not the default functionality provided by BuddyPress or WordPress) so you’ll need to provide more details on how exactly it works in order for the guys here to try to help.
In reply to: Converting a LINK function to display Image instead.Hi @cybervang
What’s the function you’re using? I tried visiting the link you supplied but it seems broken.
In reply to: Youtube z-indexProblem is, with auto embeds or ‘oEmbed’, the markup is delivered straight from Youtube’s server. You can’t modify it unless you use JavaScript or a filter (as @hnla suggested earlier in the thread)
In reply to: Youtube z-indexIs IE the latest version and are all of the updates installed? I had that issue until I upgraded my IE and downloaded βALLβ of the updates. Everything displays βOKβ after that.
The problem will still exist for anyone using the old version of IE. There are so many problems unique to that browser, especially early versions. It’s a pain to support. I’ve personally recently dropped supporting IE version 8 and under – if anyone is using that browser then I usually just suggest they upgrade (if possible at their end)
In reply to: Youtube z-indexUnfortunately, that doesn’t help. I wanted to take a look at the source.
Not exactly what you need but check out this from one of the core developers.
In reply to: Youtube z-indexThe issue is only with IE
Isn’t it always? π
Do you have a link to an example of what’s happening?
In reply to: Youtube z-indexDepending on how the z-index property is applied (if it’s an inline style then JavaScript will be required to remove it), you can override it in your stylesheet. For example:
#page-element-to-override { z-index: 9; }In reply to: Deliver Custom Message via BuddyPress to new users@hnla you’re right, it could be more robust. I’ve added a conditional check to test if the messages component is active.
function send_message_to_new_member( $user_id, $key, $user ) { if ( ! bp_is_active( 'messages' ) ) return; $args = array( 'sender_id' => 1, 'thread_id' => false, 'recipients' => $user_id, 'subject' => 'Hello new user', 'content' => 'Welcome to the site', 'date_sent' => bp_core_current_time() ); $result = messages_new_message( $args ); } add_action( 'bp_core_activated_user', 'send_message_to_new_member', 3 );I think editing the codex is off-limits to the masses right now, although you may have access? See here.
