In reply to: [Resolved] Page not found error with buddypress
Hi @simonvrolijk
Do you have the BP pages created under Admin > Pages?
In reply to: HostingYour community most probably won’t drain server resources (given it doesn’t grow) so perhaps look for a hosting package that offers good support and a good uptime guarantee. You won’t necessarily need the most powerful server (unless you’re allowing your users to do all kinds of photo editing or gaming etc).
In reply to: Remove /members/ pages? You’ll need
/members/username/messages/in order for private messages to work. You could disable the rest such as/members/username/settings/using a redirect function hooked to template_redirectIn reply to: users on the main website doesn't match my databaseCould it be that unactivated users are showing up in your Admin panel?
In reply to: adding / modifing the budypress member page linksYour code didn’t format very well above so here it is…
function bpfr_my_directory_setup_nav() { echo '#main'; // link to what you want } add_action( 'bp_members_directory_member_types', 'bpfr_my_directory_setup_nav' );What are you trying to do?
In reply to: Register Format and Avatar@pietro_sferrino as a general guide to how templates work check out the BP Template Hierarchy
The template for the registration page would normally live here:
/your-theme/buddypress/members/index-register.phpYou can edit that file if one has been set up by Mingle but as I say, I’m not sure what Mingle does because it’s code isn’t available.
Check out Roles and Capabilities. If your admin and custom roles share a common capability then you can distinguish these roles from the rest of the roles that don’t have that capability.
See
current_user_can() and user_can()You would use them like this:
if ( current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ) { // The current user can manage options so do something special. }if ( user_can( $user_id, 'manage_options' ) ) { // The specified user can manage options so do something special. }In reply to: Front End Profile EditingHi @paton400
This works great, but it also allows these user roles to read through other users private messages, change avatars, settings etc
If this applies to non-admin users such as contributors or subscribers, then this is a mighty big flaw. If that is happening due to the plugin then I’d expect the plugin author will want to know about it. Try raising the issue with them as a bug report or mentioning it in their support forum.
In reply to: Register Format and AvatarI notice you’re using Mingle. It’s a premium theme so I’m not sure how their templates are set-up. Have you tried asking on the theme’s support page?
In reply to: [Resolved] /settings/profile is empty?@godavid33 I remember when this was being worked on (JJJ’s project – see the GitHub repo for it here) – It wasn’t in core the last I checked but am somewhat out-of-touch so it may well have made it in.
Hopefully this helps.
In reply to: Scroll down user profile page‘whatever’ can be anything. I was using it as an example. In your case, it will be an image, or some text or anything. The key bit to understand is whichever page element you put
id='anchor'on is the page element that will appear at the top of your page, on page load.In reply to: Scroll down user profile pageTry finding your
<body>tag in header.php then add an onload event attribute like this:<body onload=' location.href="#anchor" '>Then in your template:
<div id='anchor'>whatever</div>When the page loads ‘whatever’ will be at the top of your screen.
In reply to: Scroll down user profile pageThis will need JavaScript.
In reply to: Confirm Email Address – Registration Form – HELPThis isn’t possible without adding some custom code and I’m not aware of a plugin that does this.
Try using Theme My Login – you can have registration, login, lost password and reset password all within your themed pages.
Disabling access to WP Admin will require some custom code. Put this in your theme’s functions.php file:
// disable access to wp-admin for non-administrators function block_wp_admin_access() { if ( is_admin() && ! current_user_can( 'administrator' ) && ! ( defined( 'DOING_AJAX' ) && DOING_AJAX ) ) { wp_redirect( home_url() ); exit; } } add_action( 'init', 'block_wp_admin_access' );In reply to: SSL chain broken when using BuddyPressHi @jrcode
Which theme are you using? Insecure items could come from absolutely anywhere – your theme, plugins etc. They can be images, links etc. The only way to solve this problem is to track down the insecure items by searching for
http://in your source code. Note that ‘secure’ items will all begin withhttps://. A good way to avoid the use ofhttp://when using SSL is to use relative paths i.e. /mypath/image.jpgHope this helps
In reply to: Choices during registrationYou’ll need to distinguish users that offer something from users that find something. That can be done via roles and responsibilities in WordPress:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_CapabilitiesYou can add roles using
add_role()and assign certain responsibilities to them:https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_role
Once you have the custom roles set up, you can check if the logged-in user has a certain capability using
current_user_can()https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/current_user_can
Hope this helps – it isn’t a fully coded solution but should be a useful starting point.
I didn’t see
facebook_uidis stored in user meta. That does make it easierBut he’s also checking facebook avatars, so the flag needs to account for that.
@shanebp good point. That’s a game changer unless there’s a hook for that too?
Hi guys
A way around this would be to hook on to the avatar successfully uploaded action and add a flag to the user’s meta which will tell you if a user has uploaded an avatar. If they delete the avatar then you’d have to remove the flag. This idea would work only for new file uploads so if you have a working site already you’ll need to find a different way.
In reply to: Pulling from existing custom fieldsget_user_meta()will allow you to retrieve the custom field data. You’d use the function like this:$data = get_user_meta( $user_id, $key, true );where$keyis the name of the custom field and$user_idis the user ID of your BuddyPress member.$datawill then hold the custom field value you want for that particular member.Ref: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_user_meta
In reply to: Profile fields – taget='_blank'Themes can do that, if they want to!
In reply to: Profile fields – taget='_blank'Hi @antimuffin
This might not be happening due to BuddyPress. Are you sure your theme, Pinboard, isn’t removing the target attribute?
In reply to: Bluehost Activation emails being filteredIt’s actually
wp_mail()that yu’re looking for: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_mailTo change the sender info is possible without modifying BuddyPress depending on what they’re asking you to change. What info do they need you to change?
In reply to: Load more button stops working … sometimesHi @amckinnell
When I click that link a window comes up with a bunch of info in it, but none of it looks like errors
What is the info you’re seeing in the console?
Just a few more questions – have you made any changes to your theme? And does the load more button work when you use a theme such as Twenty Thirteen?
