In reply to: How hard is it?
What is the difference between using BuddyPress from the webiste versus downloading it to your computer?
Do you mean like wordpress.com and wordpress.org?
BuddyPress is downloadable only – there is no web service version of it available like there is with wordpress.com.
In reply to: Activity Bug?Hi @denmengel
This is most definitely a theme issue. Which theme are you using?
In reply to: Custom header image not workingThis could be a theme issue (CSS). How is the header image displayed? Do you have a link to your site?
In reply to: Recommended Chat PluginBp Chat is free and makes use of BP profiles.
Chat logs must not build up causing site to slow down etc
I haven’t tested it myself so can’t answer this. It’s available here:
In reply to: Make "media" the default tab instead of profileThis is where I took the info from:
Are you doing anything else in bp-custom.php? Maybe something you’ve customised is causing the issue.
In reply to: Facebook Only RegistrationIs there an easy way to do this?
Yes. You can do this quite easily.
1. Choose a Facebook login plugin from the WP plugin repo:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/
Maybe try searching for
'social login'2. Hide the BuddyPress registration form
In reply to: No activation mailYour hosting company’s mail server might be at fault. Try checking that it works
In reply to: Make "media" the default tab instead of profiledefine( 'BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT', 'media' );You’ll need to put that in bp-custom.php
In reply to: No activation mailHave you checked the spam folder?
In reply to: Help! Loop!Just bypass the login page with something like
wp_set_auth_cookie( 1, false, true ).Where 1 is the user ID of your admin account.

There’s quite a lot of development activity going on right now with BP “under the hood” so to speak. Have a read of this blog post which announces the recent release of BP 2.0:
And keep in mind many of the WP plugins in the WordPress plugin repo work solidly on BP, you don’t necessarily need to use ‘BP plugins’ only:

In reply to: BuddyPress theme – Looking for ideasHi @aronprins
I like the idea of the left-hand side navigation (viewing on desktop). It seems to allow everything else to have more space on the screen. The colour scheme is good too, very easy on the eye.
Maybe add a little left and right padding for when people are viewing from their mobiles or tablets. To do that, you could probably make use of Bootstrap’s media queries to target the various device sizes.
In reply to: [Resolved] Code for members? Also, check out WP_User_Query
https://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_User_Query
You can do what you need to easily using the search parameters. For example:
$args = array( 'search' => $string, 'search_columns' => array( 'ID' ), ); $user_query = new WP_User_Query( $args );Where
$stringis the user submitted search string i.e. the user IDIn reply to: How can I disable @mentions written by non-friends?friends_check_friendship_status()will handle the ‘friend check’ for you.bp_activity_at_name_filteris the @-mention filter you speak of. It’s hooked to various stuff such asbp_activity_comment_contentandpre_comment_content. Hope this helps. If you need anything else just shout. In reply to: Bug with link posts in activity pageRight! I see what you mean. You could try letting the guys know over at BuddyPress Trac by raising a new ticket:
http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org
They’ll be able to take a look
In reply to: Hide user emailHi @trialsph
Which theme are you using? It isn’t great practice to display member’s email addresses on a site by default. Perhaps you should try a different theme which doesn’t do this.
In reply to: Bug with link posts in activity pageHow is the ending double quote being inserted to the page? As far as I am aware this can only come from the theme.
In reply to: Bug with link posts in activity pageThis could be down to your theme. What theme are you using?
In reply to: [Resolved] Mobile BillingThat is a massively good point @shanebp – could you even go up one level again and use
init?In reply to: [Resolved] Mobile BillingHi @tonymalony
Yes you can tweak the default sign up to do that. Also, consider using something like this to redirect logged-out users away from content you want accessible to logged-in members only.
function custom_redirect() { if ( ! is_user_logged_in() ) { // redirect wp_redirect( home_url() ); exit; } } add_action( 'template_redirect', 'custom_redirect' );Ref:

https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/template_redirectIn reply to: Multi stage registration?Hi @plinth
It isn’t possible by default. You could set up a new page and direct member’s to it on successful registration. That page would have a form on it which lets the member add profile info. Then when that page’s form has been processed successfully the member is taken to the third page and so on.
template_redirectis the hook you’d need to use andwp_redirect()will enable the page ‘hopping’.https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_redirect
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/template_redirectNote: You’d need to be comfortable with PHP to do it.
