    Yes network mode is MS or MS

    Not sure if there are any plugins to do this, Ray may have a better idea. How comes you are not using the adminbar and could you not simply lift that particular adminbar nav item and set it somewhere else just for admin? shouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish.

    Ideally WP wants to correct what I suspect is a glaring oversight? might be worth checking the WP forums to see if the issue has been raised there.

    That second link: this is not a table! its a ul construct.

    Yes it’s a pretty fair post, but note it’s not a conclusive treatise on the subject. It remains a damned awkward subject in many areas, good that he pointed out the possibility of split license to cover CSS / graphics if I create a graphic it remains mine unless I sign over the copyright on it same with photographers you may hire them to take a picture for you but they will retain copyright on that image for all eternity.

    Have you got any tables with more than one row? (sorry if that sounds a silly question or I’ve missed them)

    Nope doesn’t appear to be the ability to mark a user as spammer in single WP 3.0, love to know why, what’s the difference still a registered user, shouldn’t matter a jot whether blogs are enabled or not. It feels as though WP single is a poor cousin to WP MS

    There is a plugin by Rich. have a scroll through the plugins under the ‘extend’ tab if you can’t find it post back and I’ll hunt it down for you.

    There shouldn’t really be any issue with getting poEdit running should there? I found it a fairly straightforward programme however the issue of finding and replacing so many instances of a given word is simply irksome I really have better things to be doing and bugger all time to be doing them in! The time I did have cause to try out poEdit to change the word ‘favorite’ to the correct spelling ;) took longer than I cared to spend on something of that nature, What I didn’t establish is the find and replace capabilities, which I’m goin to try in a mnute.

    I have just had a request that ‘Group’ be changed to ‘Channels’ for an upcoming job, I immediately thought of this thread and *sighed* and yes I fail to see how po files are the right way of dealing with this sort of thing other than at least you are simply trawling through one file.

    @markhahnel I’ve edited your earlier post to show the code.

    To add a link tag open header.php and look for other link tags in the <head> section to the top of the file.

    Yes those are the changes and you need them made to any of the files that ordinarily live in /bp-default/ but in this instance will reside in your theme folder.

    Obviously these themes are at fault in as much as there were changes to the approach that zebra striping took the majority of the changes were in core files which you should have in 1.2.5.2 but also there were changes made to theme files which is always likely to be an issue where non default themes are used as you will need to be aware of changes or wait for the theme author to update.

    The table that lives in the forum directory is missing a class you need to go through all tables and add ‘zebra’ to the table class

    Very minor point when posting to forums it’s better not to call on a member directly, the community has a lot of very knowledgeable people helping out a particular member may not be available or may be busy, so don’t impose or limit yourself :)

    Hope he doesn’t say that. I’ve no love for them but the whole nature of the GPL as applied to projects is a contentious and far from clear area, and debates rumble on for ever and a day over the letter of the license.

    I have to admit defeat here ‘my blogs’ will not show anything other than ‘create blog’ been through every setting repeatedly in different combinations.

    Tried both figuring there was likely a difference, seemingly same results, I’m going to have to look deeper before commenting further and discount any gross ignorance on the part of the operator – me ;)

    Yep realise needs to be network mode and most of my test installs are, but that also raises another issue which I left a ticket on ‘ lack of link to dashboard with single blog install’

    Hmm on WP 3.0 BP 1.2.6 user with own blog , elevated to ‘contributor’ on main blog, at least logged in as Admin and selected user and changed role from ‘no role for user’ to ‘contributor’ yet logging in as this user shows only their blog under My Blogs. Still not convinced I’m not simply overlooking something obvious so will leave for a while and come back to this when thinking clearer :)

    @hnla

    No I get no drop down at all and the top level link ‘My Blog’ is not an active link, checking the DOM shows an empty child UL. It’s an odd one, if you say it works for you on same setup there’s probably something I’ve overlooked and I’ll investigate further.

    @r-a-y your patch for this issue ticket#2431 was intended to correct the issue of a user elevated to ‘contributor’ or similar supposedly then having links under ‘My-Blogs’ ? The ticket is marked closed/resolved, yet testing on WP 3.0 BP 1.2.5.2 doesn’t produce links for a user with role ‘contributor’ has this issue reared again with WP 3.0 – haven’t time right now to look deeper so didn’t want to reopen the ticket and move to 1.2.6 until sure it is still an issue and why.

    Ah, so that suggests that the issue was patched and committed for 1.2.5, do the blog links appear on the adminbar? I’ll have to test this as haven’t run across this set of circumstances.

    I don’t see any user blogs apart from the ‘test’ one are you letting users create their own blogs or simply wanting them to be able to post on the main one? If they have their own blogs then there will be a link to them on the adminbar, otherwise you will need to elevate them from ‘Subscribers’ on the main blog to a role that lets them create posts.

    In a word? Yes! Doing so is really the purview of the plugin developer? I would have though it’s a simple check that a member is not equal to whatever the field is that marks someone as a spammer however and not having looked at the plugin it sounds as though a table is built up of follwers but that isn’t rechecked against possible changes to those members, essentially you add a member as a follower and remove a member as a follower but nothing happens in-between.

    Go into the dashboard and look for the BuddyPress ‘Profile Field Setup’ link

    @hnla

    /wp-content//themes/my-theme/header.php :)

    But what do you mean by ‘put something’? there are various means of adding passing to this file and on to rendered output, yes you can directly edit it though (in a child theme.) but it might be advisable to just state what you are wanting to do in case there is a specific and proper means of doing it.

    Oh I see doesn’t sound good, didn’t think those cables ‘broke’ all armored sheathing and buried under the seabed?? it’s bizarre in this day and age that major countries and cities such as SA should not have the same connectivity the rest of the world seems used to.

    Hmm when ISPs do cap overage on bandwidth allowance it tends to be simply throttling back on certain ports; to restrict where you can surf to sounds a bit odd.

    If you really expect those sorts of figures even at 25% that’s a lot of users, I would almost certainly say that you must have a dedicated or virtual dedicated server that you are able to tune to your specific needs I would want I guess at least 2GB ram as much hard disk space as possible and data transfer(incorrectly referred to as bandwidth generally) preferably un metered, also the higher the bandwidth the better i.e your pipe throughput, I would be optimizing server performance as much as possible, and ensuring site caching mechanisms are in place.

    Other things to take into careful consideration are a host that provides good tech support, don’t overlook this aspect, check ticket response times and 24/7 availability, if you can run to the cost and are not specifically a server techie yourself think about a managed VPS?. Another aspect you haven’t mentioned is site backup with your sort of projected activity you might be generating largish amounts of data, have a backup system in place that can cope, you may need to discuss this with the host to establish what provision is made for, off site?, storage capacity etc.
