    @alexduvot-

Okay, your current issue is not too clear anymore. Originally, you created this post because you could not get BP to activate. It appears that you have successfully activated BP but now have theme issues? Correct?

To resolve issues, you need to boil your install down to its lowest, common denominator. Assuming that you have successfully activate BP, then what you need to do is switch to the default BP theme then deactivate all plugins except BP.

Is BP working fine after doing that?

If so, then you either have an issue with a 3rd-party theme or one of your plugins.

Also, check your server’s error logs to see if there is any information. It can help point you in the proper direction

Whether you are upgrading or installing BuddyPress for the first time, the instructions are clear on what to do with the theme files:

    Upgrading: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/upgrading-from-10x/

    Installing new: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/

Please, always read the instructions before upgrading an old or installing a new copy of BuddyPress. The readme.txt file that comes with BuddyPress is also clear on what to do with the theme files.

As it is quick, simple, and painless, I always manually upgrade or install new BP versions, instead you using automatic update. You have more control over the process.

Your issue is not the same as the OP. I’ve replied to your issue on your other cross post.

First of all, please do not cross post. Your issue will be addressed in time.

Secondly, did you search the forums before posting? This issue has been addressed several times in the past. It is an issue with 1and1 and how they set up hosting. It is not a BuddyPress-specific issue.

How about doing what BuddyPress does and use the past tense:

    Dan-

The readme.txt instructions are correct. The error message is incorrect.

As I linked to in my first post, more information about upgrading can be found here. With regards to your particular issue, from that link:

If you are using the default themes: Delete the /wp-content/bp-themes/ folder. Move the /bp-default/ and /bp-sn-parent/ folders from the /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/ folder and put them into the folder /wp-content/themes/. Enable the BuddyPress default theme in the “Site Admin > Themes” menu. Finally, activate the BuddyPress default theme in “Appearance > Themes” for the root blog of your installation.

testbp.org always runs the bleeding edge version of BuddyPress. This means the current trunk version ( give a few minutes or hours since Andy needs to updated it when he commits a new changeset to trunk).

So, at this very moment, testbp.org is running the recently released 1.1. In fact, it was running this version before it was publicly released. Wait a day or so, and it will be running an even newer trunk version.

The prebuilt field options have indeed been removed from 1.1. Andy did not write that code. He thought it was poorly implemented. I agree. I imagine something will be offered to add that feature in a future version.

Perhaps someone will write a plugin to extend the xprofile component to offer a more robust and flexible prebuilt field option. Hint, hint? Any devs out there want a new challenge?

    @Tore

    That’s the proper attitude!

The forums are their own, separate plugin. I’ve already clearly explained the reasons why this component will not provide bbPress forum privacy filters. You are free to use any bbPress privacy plugins that you want. Perhaps in the future this will change, but right now, it will not be an option.

Network Parent Theme sounds like a custom, 3rd-party theme to me. The default parent/child BP themes are bp-sn-parent and bp-default.

Make sure that you have enabled the BuddyPress default theme in the “Site Admin > Themes” menu and then activated the BuddyPress default theme in “Appearance > Themes”.

If you’re still having issues, read the second linked to thread in my post above.

You are either using an outdated 3rd-party plugin, a outdated custom theme, or need to update your own custom code to v1.1. The function get_edit_html() has been deprecated.

If you are using a 3rd-party plugin or theme, you should contact the developer and ask when they plan on updating it. If it happens to be the old, xprofile privacy plugin (which depended on that function and a core hack to work), then please read this thread.

Please check with the plugin author, Manoj Kumar. He has been waiting for v1.1 to come out before updating the plugin.

Here’s Andy’s announcement post about the just-released BuddyPress version 1.1. I think it speaks volumes about the current state and future health of the WPMU + BP community.

BuddyPress v1.1–shipping shortly!–has an entirely new avatar cropper. It should solve the issues you are currently having with 1.0.3.

Regarding your 3rd question, the “Delete Account” feature works fine in all versions of BP. I assume you are logging into your BP install as the Site Admin. If so, that is why you do not see this feature.

If the Site Admin where allowed to delete their account–and actually did so–it would be very problematic. So, BP checks to see if the current viewing users is the Site Admin, and if it is, it does not render the “Delete Account” submenu under “Settings”.

Have any of those 20 people filled out their profile pages? See this Trac ticket for more information: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/470

Also, with BuddyPress v1.1, the Group API has been significantly rewritten. You may find that this issue goes away.

To add further credence to the healthy, continued existence of WordPress Mu and the strength and solidity of BuddyPress, 8 months ago I went through the same investigation, searching out the strongest, best supported, most flexible open-source based platform with which to build out a very large social network. I decided that WPMU + BuddyPress was the solution for me.

Since that time, I’ve fully immersed myself in both platforms, even becoming a moderator on theses forums (as you can see). Over that 8 month period, WPMU and BP have become even stronger, have improved in numerous ways. They are both at the stage where I am now very confident in their foundation. My project is now a go and I am currently feverishly working on building my platform. I hope to be rolling out a beta of my “professional grade community” by the first of the new year.

So do not worry about the future of WPMU or BuddyPress. The future is strong, bright, and healthy.

Yep. It’s happening to me as well. I’ve talked with Andy. He’s looking into it.

Okay, a few questions to start:

    • From your description, it is not clear how you’ve attempted to debug your setup. When trying to figure out an issue with BuddyPress, it is best to distill your environment down to the lowest common denominator. This means switching to the default BP theme and deactivating all plugins except BP. It is not clear if you did this completely or just partially. In other words, you need to fully test your BP install without any 3rd-party addons. If it works in that state, then you can safely assume it is an issue with a custom theme, another plugin, or both. So, did you reset BP to its lowest common denominator?
    • What errors are you seeing in your server’s log files?
    • Could you please provide details about this setup:

I have Buddypress installed in a subfolder with another wordpress installation in the root…

    I’m marking this as resolved.
