    I’m glad you found the culprit. If you search these forums for “qTranslate”, you will see that there have been a number of issues reported in using that particular plugin with BP.

    As this thread was three weeks old before you posted today, and it was already marked as resolved, please start a new thread. Most people who provide assistance will simply ignore threads marked as resolved, preferring to spend time on threads where help is still required.

    Also, Matt may or may not see that his 3-week old thread has new activity. So, if you want an answer from him as well, your best bet will be to contact him via private messaging.

    Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated. If so, temporarily deactivate all of them except BP and see if that makes a difference.

    Although privacy features are on the BuddyPress Roadmap for v1.2, there is no guarantee that my privacy component will become the official BP privacy component. Andy has yet to see or test it.

    I have been working on a few other projects recently, but will be polishing up my privacy component this weekend. I do plan on releasing the plugin as a beta once it has been properly alpha tested. I assume at this stage, I will be releasing an alpha version in the next 2 weeks–after v1.1 comes out and Andy has had a chance to see the component.

    Have a look at this Codex article.

    As a general piece of advice, this is not specifically for the xprofile component, make sure that you check the codebase in the version of trunk that you’re using as there have been a number of changes to functions–some have been renamed, others deprecated, and new ones created. So it is possible that some of the Codex articles on BP loops may be slightly out of date.

    Kevin-

    I’m afraid no one is going to touch this one since you are at least 5 months behind in your BP version and who knows how long on your WPMU.

    Since you last updated those products, significant changes, improvements, bug fixes, and security patches have been made.

    First of all, since you are installing a premium, 3rd-party DB sharding tool, you need to contact the people at WPMU DEV Premium and ask them for support. It seems like all was fine with your standard WPMU + BP install until you switched to using their multi-db plugin.

    Secondly, in case you are not aware, there is a free sharding tool–HyperDB. In fact, this site (BP.org) is using it. Also, there is a great two-part article on how to use HyperDB written by Trent Adams, one of the moderators on this and other WP product forums.

    Haha!

    Well, yes and no. It will keep your thoughts private and out of the reach from regular, lowly humans, but it’s already too late to prevent alien interference. All humans have already been tagged by the aliens. They know where we are, what we’re doing, and what we’re thinking at all times. So take off that silly tinfoil hat, John.

    Okay, let’s go back to the basics. Just so that we have all the initial information required, please answer these questions.

    Just a friendly reminder to all.

    If you have an issue other than an upgrade issue then please start a new thread. This thread is only for discussions of upgrading to 1.1-beta from a previous version.

    I assume your are asking how users can view the other field groupings when they have selected “Edit Profile”. Look at the column heading. There are tabs for each field group. Clicking on a tab takes the user to that field group for editing.

    Hum, since 1.1-beta was tagged only a few days ago, this is odd. Perhaps Andy can chime in here listing the changeset where Trac ticket 803 was addressed. I cannot find it.

    Okay, I’m just checking to make sure that we are on the same page. What exactly do you mean by “virgin setup”. Is everything brand, spanking new?

    To me, a virgin install is this:

    • You’ve deleted all the content (visible and invisible) from your root folder
    • Your using a blank DB that has a different name, username, and password from any that you’ve used before
    • You’ve cleared your browser’s cache
    • You’ve downloaded a new copy of WPMU and installed it, creating brand new wp-config and .htaccess files
    • You’ve downloaded the newest BuddyPress trunk (if running bleeding edge). If using a tagged version of BP, then you’ve downloaded that version again to have a fresh, clean copy. You then manually install BP and then activate it.
    • You have no other themes installed in wp-contents (other than the default WPMU and BP themes)
    • You have no other plugins except BP (and possibly the default plugins that come with WPMU)

    Also, it does not hurt to clear your Apache and PHP error logs so that you can easily see any errors specific to your new install.

    We have absolutely zero information about your setup on which we can base our analysis. Please read this thread.

    You are talking about the saving of forum threads. This should be asked/suggested in the bbPress support forums. Even though bbPress is utilized by BuddyPress, it still is its own, separate plugin.

    Which version of BP are you running? This has been addressed in v1.1.

    See my Trac ticket from 3 months ago. The ticket is closed, indicating that it has been fixed in trunk. Although I do not see the changeset where it was fixed, it should work if you are using the current trunk.

    @jeffsayre

    Yes, both testbp.org and BuddyPress.org use bbPress. You need to customize your bbPress theme. Search the forums here for “bbPress theme”.

    No, there is not a facility for hiding your online status from the rest of the site. That feature is really not necessary as the privacy settings will allow you to block all communication for a single user all the way up to all users. So, what difference does it make if someone knows that you are currently online.

    As a side thought, this Site ( BP.org ), uses the “Recently Active” widget instead of the “Who’s Online” avatar listing. I think this makes more sense as it does not indicate if someone is currently online. It is simply a listing of the most recently active members.

    Which version of BuddyPress are you running?

    If you’re using 1.1-beta, then the bp-sn-framework and bp-default directories need to be moved into /wp-content/themes/.

    If using an earlier version, then you need to move bphome into /wp-content/themes/ and bpmember into /wp-content/bp-themes/

    Also, more suggestions about how to tackle your particular error message can be found here:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-plugins-and-theme-not-loading

    Just one note, if you get to the stage of deleting BuddyPress and starting over with its install, please make sure you deactivate it first before deleting it.

    gerikg-

    I would suggest also posting this on the BuddyPress Job Board. Since this is a request for coding and not an issue with BuddyPress, I’ve changed the topic from “not resolved” to “not a support question”.

    @jeffsayre

    I setting this to resolved. If for some reason you need to change it back, you can do so since you are the OP.

    @jeffsayre

    You should be fine checking svn out or even using the zipped file of whatever trunk version you want. I’ve recently tried both just to make sure that there was not some strange issue.

    Are you creating a brand new database with each install attempt? In other words, is it a totally clean install? if not, I would suggest installing with a new DB and see if this behavior goes away.

    @jeffsayre

    It is not an amateurish question at all. But since BuddyPress v1.1-beta was just released, the old two-theme system is being phased out. Going forward, BP will use a parent/child theme architecture. It is a more powerful, flexible theming environment.

    Since you are using a custom, premium theme (Woo Themes), you should ask them for support.

    I’m definitely not trying to start a platform war.

    Lol! Yes, I do recognize that. I said that because by me taking an obvious side in my post above, I was basically starting one myself!

    I appreciate your desire for a full-blown ACL. It is a possibility in the future. Some of us have talked about it in length. In fact, I originally started my privacy component with this in mind until I better understood what was really needed. So, I do have a few hundred lines of code already put away toward a separate ACL system. I’m guessing that if it were to be finished, that it would more than likely be a separate plugin, probably not a core component–unless Andy decided otherwise.

    If it were to be a core component, it would add 4 additional tables to every BP install. Since most sites would not utilize full-scale RBAC, it would create superfluous bloat. By keeping it as a plugin, those few Site Admins or developers that desire to offer such item-by-item object authorization could choose to do so if they wanted.
