We do not have enough information to provide assistance.

    Please answer these questions.

To be clear, the core privacy component will offer users the ability to decide which pieces of their core-created data they want to make available to which users (or groups of users). It will not offer a mechanism to hide data from people who are not “subscribers” as subscriber is not a BuddyPress user classification or level.

For more details, I’ve created a new thread about my plugin.

As moderators, we cannot recommend hosting providers–at least I will not!

Here’s a thread that may help you better understand the requirements of WPMU. I would suggest searching the Mu forums for hosting suggestions.

I know Burt hasn’t updated the group blogs plugin in a while…

I believe that jeff is talking about this plugin and not Burt’s Community Blogs plugin.

    @Nfzgrld: WPMU 2.8.4 only please.

Specifically use WPMU 2.8.4a, as plain 2.8.4 had a security issue.

Which version of BuddyPress are you running? As of trunk r1599 (which is just over 2 months ago), the functions bp_core_add_nav_default() and bp_core_add_subnav_item were deprecated, replaced by bp_core_new_nav_item() and bp_core_new_subnav_item().

You have several threads with various issues floating around the forums so I cannot possibly remember all the answers that you’ve already provided to our questions.

    So, more questions/suggestions:

    • Do you have any plugins other than BP installed? If so, deactivate them and see what happens. Make sure that you are using the default theme and that you have reselected it.
    • Are there any errors in your server’s log files? I mean ANY. Do not try to decide which errors are relevant to this issue. We will decided.
    • I believe that you are running BP trunk. So this is a test site as you should not be running the bleeding-edge version on a production site. Do a clean install and see if the problem persists. This means deleting everything–all BP, WPMU, and DB files. You need to start from scratch. Don’t install any plugins other than BP, only use the default theme. What happens when you do that?

As DJPaul, said, you should talk to your web host whenever you are having server issues. This WordPress codex article may help, if it does not, talking with your web host is the next option.

    Waclaw-

Are you aware of the Open Stack? Integration of the Open Stack is on the BuddyPress roadmap for sometime around version 1.4. It will do what you are proposing and more. If you want a real challenge, you can start working on integrating the Open Stack into BP!

The first steps are to distill your install down to the lowest common denominator. That means disabling all plugins except BuddyPress and switching to the default theme framework that comes with BP. If the problem goes away, then it has something to do with your theme and/or plugins.

If that is the case, they the next step is to reactivating each plugin one at a time until the issue returns. If it does not return, then switch to your custom theme. If it returns, then there is an issue with your custom theme.

This was well discussed three days ago. Since this thread has not seen any action for a month until just now, I’m closing it as it is too out of date.

I have no idea what will work for you. I was just detailing what I needed to do.

If your WPMU and server environment were setup properly to begin with, and you followed the instructions in BuddyPress’ readme.txt file, you should have no issues upgrading. But, for me, I had unknown issues in my original setup environment that caused problems. So, I had to go through the process I tried. It may or may not work for you.

To do a clean WPMu reinstall, you will want to delete the WPMU install completely–this means everything including the folders. Once reinstalled, you can go grab the most recent BP trunk and manually install before reactivating it.

Okay, so everything is standard issue.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded one of my development sites to pre1.1. I ended up reinstalling from scratch–both WPMU 2.8.4a and BP trunk. I did a clean install–sort of. First, I deactivated BuddyPress since I planned on using the same DB.

Then I dragged my wp-config.php and .htaccess files out of the root directory before deleting everything else in the root directory. I reinstalled WPMU just by copying the files back into the empty root. I then put back the wp-config and .htaccess files, logged into WPMU as Site Admin, and reactivated BP and reselected the BP themes.

    My problem went away.

By the way, if you are running WPMU in a development environment and you selected the subdomain install option for blogs, you will have an issue if you have not set up a wildcard DNS record and have more than the main blog. I had this issue with one of my dev sites.

What happened was that it threw an error when I upgraded Mu form 2.7.1 to 2.8.4a. It could not properly upgrade any of the test blogs (other than Blog ID 1) since it could not resolve the subdomains. I had not set up a wildcard record for that dev site.

When logged in to WPMU’s back end as Site Admin and visiting “Appearance > Themes”, the description under the BuddyPress Default 1.1-pre theme should say:

The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default. BuddyPress Default uses templates from BuddyPress Social Network Theme Framework. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

If you are seeing something different, you need to carefully look at how you’ve installed your themes.

Your old data should have remained in the wp_bp_activity_user_activity_cached table. If you performed some SQL queries on that table, you may have deleted the old data. Your only option then is to add the data back using another SQL query. You will need to compare the schema of the new table to the old one as several fields have been removed as they were no longer needed.

How long will this widget show a event ?

In WPMU’s backend, there is a setting for the widget that allows you to configure the maximum number of activity items to show. So there is no time limit on how long an event will be shown. If you’ve set the maximum number to 10, then the 10th item will not be displayed anymore as soon as the next, new activity gets recorded.

    A few questions:

    • Was BP 1.0.3 running on WPMU 2.8.4a, or did you first upgrade to WPMU 2.8.4a before installing trunk? If so, from which version of WPMU did you upgrade?
    • Are you using a custom theme? If so, what happens when you switch to the default parent/child theme?
    • Do you have any plugins other the BP activated? If so, what happens when you deactivate them all except BP?
    • Do you have a bp-custom.php file in use? If so, what happens when you temporarily remove that file?
    • What errors are you seeing in your server’s log files?

I’m testing r1865, and it conflicts with /wp-admin/ pages causing options to go blank or only displays footer.

    Questions/suggestions:

    • So, you are having display issues with one (or all) of the admin pages in WPMU’s backend?
    • What version of WPMU are you running? You need to be running WPMU 2.8.4a.
    • How did you upgrade BuddyPress? Since you are running trunk, I assume that you manually installed it. Or, did you do an SVN up?
    • If you manually reinstalled trunk, meaning you grabbed the zipped version, did you first deactivate BuddyPress before reinstalling? Did you delete the BuddyPress directory and do a clean install?
    • Have you tried disabling all your active plugins and seeing if the page displays as it should?
    • If the above solves the issue, then reactivate BuddyPress and see if the issue returns. If it does not, then it has nothing to do with BuddyPress and is more than likely a conflict with one of your other plugins. Make sure all your plugins are updated to run WPMU 2.8.4a.

You need to modify the output of the User Posts and User Comments loop. The documentation for doing that can be found here:

    Custom BuddyPress Loops

And what you’re specifically looking for can be found here:

I assume that you are running on the bleeding edge, that you reinstalled the most recent BuddyPress trunk. The name of the parent theme was changed in r1843 and many new improvements made to the overall new parent/child theme architecture.

As the above referenced changeset indicates, the first step you should try is reactivating your theme. If that does not do the trick, then since you’re using a customized parent/child theme, you need to make sure that you carefully inspect the new default parent/child theme and find were any changes might have been made.
