In reply to: Important Theme Changes Coming! In reply to: when next release ?
Andy is currently on a much-needed vacation. When he comes back–well rested and thinking more clearly
–he will work on getting everything wrapped up for the version 1.1 release. So, I’m guess it will be 2-3 weeks from yesterday.
In reply to: Skeleton Theme & Component for DevelopersOnce version 1.1 of BuddyPress is released, the Skeleton Theme that is currently bundled with BuddyPress (up to version 1.0.3) will be discontinued. Instead, BuddyPress will adopt the parent/child theme architecture that WP 2.7 made possible.

In reply to: Activity widgetWell, without looking into this in more detail, this at the very least
$user_id=$bp_loggedin_user_idshould be replaced with this
$bp->loggedin_user->idYou will also need to actually have a function called bp_activity_get_sitewide_activity().
In reply to: Problem In My Wp-Admin Section!BuddyPress currently only runs on WPMU.
As far as your question:
…is there a way to convert my wordpress right now on my site to WordPress MU?
There are many resources on the WPMU site and threads in their forums that will help you in this regard.
In reply to: New method for BP themeWhen you run on the bleeding edge, you have to accept the changes!
The BP themes that WPMU DEV currently provide are are not designed with the parent/child architecture in mind. You need to talk with them to get support.
Details About the New Theme Architecture
With BuddyPress version 1.1–which will be officially released in the next several weeks–there will no longer be bhome and bpmember themes. Instead, BuddyPress will adopt the parent/child theme architecture that WP 2.7 makes possible.
Backwards compatibility will remain for a while for those that want/need to use the old theming architecture. To use the old theme architecture, you need to keep the /bp-themes/ directory. Place your old member themes in there. BuddyPress should override the new theme architecture in favor of the old one if you have a /bp-themes/ directory. However, please note that support for the old theme architecture will eventually be phased out. You will eventually need to update your themes to a parent/child architecture.

In reply to: How to Use bphome Functions on BP Member Pages? You’re welcome!
In reply to: Sorry, that page was not foundTwo questions:
- Does this issue go away if you switch to the default themes that come with BuddyPress?
- Are there any errors showing up in your log files?
In reply to: Group Forum Posts and Forum PagesThat is more than likely a bug. Could you please post a new ticket in BuddyPress trac. You use the same login credentials for trac as you do for this site.
In reply to: Clean professional user registration? As r-a-y points put, Mark Jaquith, one of the few lead developers for WordPress, was hired to build a highly-customized version of WPMU + BuddyPress for Gigaom. Mark of course is intimately aware of the intricacies of the WP codebase and I’m sure had an easier time customizing the project than would the vast majority of coders.
But, the Gigaom site does demonstrate what is possible with WPMU + BP if you are willing to become well-versed in the codebase or have deep-enough pockets to hire out professional talent.
In reply to: How to Use bphome Functions on BP Member Pages?Once v1.1 comes out in the next couple of weeks, this issue should be moot. There will no longer be bhome and bpmember themes. Instead, BuddyPress will adopt the parent/child theme architecture that WP 2.7 makes possible.
Backwards compatibility will remain for a while for those that want/need to use the old theming architecture. But it will eventually be phased out.

Read the sticky thread on the forum’s homepage entitled “HELP I CAN’T POST! – README”. That should take care of it!
In reply to: All sitewide posts into the main blog(with id=1)This is a WPMU question so it is best to ask in that forum. Please do so.

In reply to: Prevent Group Creation, but not Group UseAt this stage, without writing a custom function, this is not possible.
In reply to: How to Use bphome Functions on BP Member Pages? You can try copying over the various functions you want to use into the bpmember theme’s functions.php file.
In reply to: Changing the original orange themeWell, you’ll need some PHP, CSS, and WP theming knowledge to modify WP themes. Here’s a helpful link to get you started with WP theme designing.
bp_the_topic_poster_avatar() pulls the avatar of the people who post in a particular forum thread. It does not pull the overall group avatar.
Do all your users have unique avatars?
Are you on a dev site?
Log into WPMU’s backend as Site Admin and navigate to “BuddyPress > General Settings > Default User Avatar” and see if you have selected the Mystery Man avatar. If so, change it to something else and save your settings.
In reply to: Activity widgetYou will most likely need to make a custom widget and a new function.
If you look at the default Site Wide Activity Widget that comes with BP, on line 36 of bp_activity_widget.php, you’ll see this line:
$activity = bp_activity_get_sitewide_activity( $options['max_items'] );Instead of call that function, which exists in bp_activity.php and ends up calling the model get_sitewide_activity() in bp_activity_classes.php, you will need to create a new function that instead calls the model get_activity_for_friends().
In reply to: Adding members as friends featureIf you are saying that you do not want to have groups, activity streams, the wire, private messaging and a few other BP services, and just want to offer users the ability to create a profile and add/see friends, then the answer is simple. Just log into WPMu’s backend as Site Admin and navigate to the BuddyPress menu grouping. Select the “Component Setup” submenu option and disable the components you do not want to offer users.
In reply to: Using trunk, cannot access BuddyPress pagesAre you using the new parent/child theme architecture or an older member theme located in /bp-themes/?
In reply to: bp tags not working in plugins?jjj is correct. If you are working on BP theme customizations, you can often find a template tag to grab and output the data. That will always be the best approach.
But if you are creating your own plugin–as I am assuming based on the title of your thread–then you must make sure that the data you are manipulating in your various functions is made available to a given function’s logic. This can sometimes be done by passing the data via paramaters. But, sometimes the simplest approach is to redeclare a varibable in that function with global.
I can’t get anything to show up with <?php bp_user_fullname() ?> and $bp in global.
Try this:
<?php echo bp_user_fullname() ?>In reply to: bp tags not working in plugins?Make sure that in your plugin function you declare the global variable “$bp”:
global $bp;In reply to: /members directory availabilityYou cannot tie BuddyPress to a blog url. This is not how it works.
WPMU handles blogs, BuddyPress handles the social networking aspect. You can selectively decide which blogs BuddyPress will show or which blogs BP will link to, but you cannot make a blog the parent of BuddyPress.
…when there are possibly more users hammering on the shared box that we’re hosted on.
There are just too many variables to address when you’re hosting a WPMU install on a shared box. It could be your install, it could be the server’s resources are being hogged by a few other domains on that server, it could be, it could be…
