    We need to understand your server and software environment. Please answer these questions: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2674

    @Svenl77-

    Are you trying to install the BP Skeleton Component on an active site? The reason I ask is that you should use the Skeleton Component for developing your own custom BuddyPress plugins. You use the files, code your own solution, then activate your new custom plugin on your development server and test.

    There is no reason you would need to reupload WPMU, BuddyPress, or bbPress. The Skeleton Component will not provide any functionality on your site. You simply use it as a general template for coding your own custom plugins.

    Thank you for providing good documentation about your issue!

    I just did a quick read through of your issue and will think about this some more, but a few quick questions come to mind to get this dialogue started:

    1. Are you using custom themes? If so, what hapens when you switch to the default BP themes?
    2. Have you made any alterations to your .htaccess file?
    3. Do you have any other plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, have you tried deactivating all of them except the BuddyPress plugin?
    4. Although this may not be useful, have you checked your server’s error logs?

    Based on this response to the list of questions,

    Was WPMU functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress? No

    and the fact that you have installed so many plugins, I’m going to suggest that you go over to the WPMU forums and ask for assistance there. It appears that you are looking at a WPMU problem and not a BuddyPress-specific issue.

    In reply to: Can’t select users.

    You need to contact the plugin developers and ask them if they plan on supporting BuddyPress.

    It looks like you’ve improperly installed the Skeleton Component. You should not have a directory called /buddypress-skeleton-component/. That is just the packaging the component comes in.

    What you need to do is copy /bp-example/ and bp-example.php into /wp-content/plugins/ and then activate the plugin.

    Well, first of all, what are you trying to accomplish with that URL?

    I’m also wondering why you have set up your theme directory that way. Is the name of your custom BuddyPress member theme actually “buddypress-member”? Or, are you using the default BP member theme “bpmember”. Why is the member theme directory called /member-themes/ instead of /bp-themes/?

    If I go to

    http://wspinacze.pl/members

    Your site works fine.

    If I go to

    http://wspinacze.pl/wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/images/message_thread_back.gif

    I don’t get an error. The gif image is white so it will not be visible on the default white background of your browser.

    If you still have issues, then read this thread.

    is there a back up / restore procedure documented?

    Do you mean for bbPress? Since bbPress uses MySQL as the DB backend, as do the other *presses, I would look at the WP codex: https://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup

    Also, I’m not too sure that the skeleton theme has been kept up to date with the recent changes–at least changes up to v1.0.1. Andy would know.

    Does anyone know what they are using to process payments, user management, etc?

    The answer is of course yes! Someone knows! ;)

    I’m not sure if Andy knows, and if he does, whether this is something he would be willing to share with the community. It most likely is a custom solution. If not, I too would love to know!

    Jessica-

    You mention this:

    Added this code to the bbPress footer (before the closing /html tag):

    <?php wp_footer() ?>

    Did you add the call to wp_footer before the closing html tag, or just before the closing body tag? In other words, it should look like this:

    <?php wp_footer(); ?>

    </body>

    </html>

    21cdb-

    Congratulations! This has been a long haul for you.

    Why does the wpmu installer mention to not use 127.0.0.1?

    Haha! Good question. I have not installed a brand new instance of WPMU for awhile so I cannot remember exactly what the installer indicates. But, I don’t think it says don’t use 127.0.0.1. Does it?

    I believe it says use localhost.localdomain which if you do, the installer comes back and says, “WPMU only works without the port number in the URL.” So, when installing on a localhost environment–at least on a Mac–you’re stuck wondering what is going on.

    But, this is why using the local IP address worked. It is the actual address of the local machine mapped to the alias called localhost. So, by using this, you don’t need to include the port number.

    Jessica-

    I’ve thought about this some more and I only have one suggestion which might do the trick. Normally I would say this wouldn’t matter. But, I have seen this make a difference is some cases. Since it seems like you’ve tried everything and have deep integration setup and working, it is worth a try.

    If it does not work, then please contact Burt or jjj and ask for their advice. I am not a bbPress-integration expert.

    Try changing these two lines in their appropriate places:

    <?php wp_head() ?>

    <?php wp_footer() ?>

    to this:

    <?php wp_head(); ?>

    <?php wp_footer(); ?>

    Notice the change? It is the inclusion of the semicolon. It could be important to use these here as they indicate the end of a PHP statement. I’ve had theming issues in the past when I’ve left these off on certain PHP statements. It will probably not make a difference, but it is worth a shot.

    Try making those two changes and let me know what happens.

    Jessica-

    Upon inspection, it does not appear that the buddybar is being called and loaded. There is a call in bp-core-adminbar.php to hook into wp-footer and load the buddybar when the footer is outputted. Looking at your source, I do not see that happening.

    I need to think about this a little more.

    I believe any registration whose activation link is not clicked on within 2 days (maybe 3) is automatically deleted. You can test this be trying to register two accounts using the same email address.

    Assuming the first registration’s activation email has not be acted upon, when you try to register another account right away with that same email address the signup process will inform you that the email address is already in use. However, if you wait until 48 hours have passed, it will allow you to use that email address because the previous inactivated registration has been deleted.

    Again, it might be 72 hours. Either way, any registration that is not activated does get purged from the system.

    You can’t without a special plugin: https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/9049

    Perhaps a search at the WPMU forums will bring up some more recent results than the one I’ve provided.

    I’m setting this thread to resolved since BuddyPress uses the WPMU user table and thus this is a WPMU issue and not BuddyPress.

    This has not yet been implemented. As this thread has not seen any activity for 4 months, I would suggest searching the trac and see if it was ever added as a feature request / enhancement ticket. If not, you can add it yourself!

    You login to trac using your BP.org credentials.

    As a side note, the reordering of groups would need to exclude the first field group as it is the grouping of fields that appear on the signup page.

    As thebloghouse has resolved the thread’s original issue, I’m setting this thread to resolved.

    @thebloghouse

    As the originator of this thread, you can always reset to “not resolved” if need be!

    chukkide-

    Burt is correct. This is not the way that BP works. You asked how the slug can be removed, not how can you change the slug title. To do that, read this.

    But, to remove the slug completely, as you asked, is outside the purview of BP. It may be possible with some fancy .htaccess rewrite rules, but it could cause issues with the way BP works.
