In reply to: BuddyBar for bbPress
hatiro, I suspect that’s an issue with deep integration and BP Groups not knowing to check for the existence of it. I haven’t used BP Groups in a while to see how it holds up with this plugin, but I’ll probably check it out soon as I have a site using it that needs to be updated.
In reply to: Is this the right syntaxAll of the *Press forums use Akismet. When you have as much activity as these collective forums get, you’ll have the occasional false positive from time to time. The algorithm that Akismet uses is always being adjusted to accommodate for this, but thankfully as we unmark posts that were incorrectly marked as spam, it learns as it goes and usually doesn’t happen again for that user.
In reply to: Is this the right syntaxYou bet. Some of your posts were getting marked as spam, along with some other users. Happens from time to time. I’m marking as resolved.
Do you have other plugins installed that rely on BuddyPress being there? Maybe an early version of the BuddyBar, or something else? If there’s a plugin installed that requires a BuddyPress function to exist, and it doesn’t check appropriately for it being missing, you’ll experience this.
Just had a chance to see this Trace, glad you were able to get it resolved.
The idea with the included bphome/bpmember themes is to be a skeleton framework to build off of. It shows how to use all of the included functions and loops in a way that makes the output of each element clear and concise.
It might not be the cleanest theme available, but it’s a great start if you’re learning BP or you need to understand what files do what for what reasons.
In my opinion, an experienced BP developer should be able to create a unique template starting from the bphome/bpmember themes and working outwards, within a few days. There’s no doubt that BP themes are extremely involved, but that’s likely to change as the platform matures and WordPress better supports theme locations and child themes.
Long story short, you’re probably right, but don’t expect the included theme to get much fancier. (Look at WordPress and bbPress for example. Both included original themes are very primitive in their designs.)
In reply to: is it possible to change the menus into drop down?Easily… Depends on the developer…
It isn’t more difficult, there’s just more files to change and more function calls to remember and use.
In reply to: BuddyPress and Shared HostingI’ll be honest to say that I have seen 1and1 home hosting packages in a shared environment hosting BuddyPress with 250+ users without any gripes from anyone. That’s like less than $10 a month btw, but don’t expect ludicrous speed or anything.
In reply to: Is this the right syntaxI still don’t quite get it, but I’ll assume that you’re trying to pull up group information that has the same Group Name as the Page Title?
If so, does that mean you’re creating a page for each group manually? Ugh, no fun… Alas, this is what I would do, within ‘the loop’…
$group_page_title = the_title('', '', false);
<?php if ( bp_has_groups( 'type=single-group&slug=' . $group_page_title ) ) : ?>And then proceed? I haven’t tested it, so no promises…
(The call to the_title could also probably just reference a $post-> variable, but I don’t remember what the title is off the top of my head.)
In reply to: How to redirect Home link to Profile PageTry
href="<?php echo bp_core_get_userurl(get_current_user_id()) ?>"That is pretty bizarre.
White screen errors can mean lots of things unfortunately. If it’s BuddyPress being active that’s causing it, it might be an out of memory or php/mysql version error?
Can you verify that you have all of the files in the correct locations? Were you ever able to get BuddyPress to activate successfully at all? Do you have any other plugins running that maybe are conflicting?
In reply to: Login Problem on the Front Page of ForumI don’t see what creating the page could do to interfere with the admin bar in bbPress…
That post has nothing to do with bbPress.
Something else is gumming this up for you… Hmm…
In reply to: Can not re-enable bbpress forumIt might just be lack of sleep, but I still don’t understand exactly what you’re saying.
If the forums aren’t enabled when you go to create a group, then something isn’t installed/configured correctly. I promise you that when all is done correctly, it works perfectly fine.
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSDavid Lewis,
Give the BuddyBar for bbPress plugin a try.
In reply to: Buddypress problem with linksNope, you don’t NEED to HAVE any of them, you can make your own if you so choose to, and right now it looks like it’s trying to load some derivative of the FaceBuddy theme.
In reply to: How to have friends Activity on profile pageIs this something we could ticket as an enhancemnt patch? Can’t see why we shouldn’t be able to use this function like this.
Patch suggestion. – Not approved so don’t expect this to stick later
In reply to: Looking for Sample ContentThere’s a plugin like this to populate WPMU content, but not one for BuddyPress yet.
Keep your eyes on the “WPMU Demo Data Creator” and see if the author updates his plugin to include BuddyPress.
Site wide activity is “added” or “recorded” by performing actions within BuddyPress, or by outside plugins adding those entries into the activity table.
Depending which version of BP you’re using, check out how the function bp_activity_add(trunk)/bp_activity_record(stable) works. You would need to “import” the feed entry by entry into the activity table using one of those functions.
In reply to: How to have friends Activity on profile pageThe way that bp_has_activities is now, you won’t be able to show your friends activity on your own profile page. There’s a few checks to change the type to “personal” if you are viewing your own page or if the current action is “just-me”.
You could, however, duplicate the function (located in bp-activity-templatetags.php) inside your own functions.php file, remove those checks, and call your custom function instead of this one?
In reply to: Problem with customizable slugs? Maybe bug?In reply to: Buddypress problem with linksMy guess is that you didn’t copy the code over from your bphome/functions.php file into your new theme.
That’s where the BP specific URLs are hi-jacked from.
After looking at the first site further, it looks to me like you just have the wrong member theme activated. Activate the right theme and you’re probably set?
In reply to: CCmixter + BuddyPress = Yesmate!There’s lots of ways to build bridges between platforms, but no one usually does it until they need to do it themselves.
I’ve never seen ccHost until now, and as powerful as it looks, it really looks like a competing project compared to what WordPress/bbPress/BuddyPress already attempts to do, with the help of plugins of course.
People have built integrated logins for phpBB and vBulletin, so I imagine someone could do this for you too.
The cropping tool will be getting a makeover/update in upcoming versions. This isn’t only with Firefox but other browsers as well. It usually works really well with the normal BP member theme, but anytime a theme has a fixed width, the JS doesn’t play nicely and it doesn’t get the dimensions of the bounding box properly.
Long story short, we’re on it.
In reply to: Login Problem on the Front Page of ForumCreate a page in your MU root blog called “forum” and leave it empty. Right now when the WordPress .htaccess file see’s a redirect to domain.com/forum/ it denies it saying the page doesn’t exist. Creating the page on your MU root blog will satisfy the .htaccess file, and still route to your bbPress installation.
Tricky eh?
