In reply to: Removing Messaging?
Good job! Thanks for greening this too.
In reply to: Link leads to the wrong placeWhooops! (Edited original post to avoid confusion also.)

you’re going to want to do something a little more codey…

<li><a href="<?php echo $bp->root_domain; ?>/forums/" title="<?php _e( 'Forums', 'buddypress' );?>"><?php _e( 'Forums', 'buddypress' );?></a></li>I haven’t tested it, but I’m pretty confident.

You could go a step further and put this into a hook function, but lets try this for now and see if does what you want.
In reply to: Removing Messaging?Chris,
You should just be able to delete the
bp-messages.phpfile andbp-messagesdirectory from mu-plugins, and it will disappear from the site all together.In reply to: Really Simple – Adding Link to theme – Need HelpAwesome! Good job! Gonna green light this one.
You’re welcome.
In reply to: Really Simple – Adding Link to theme – Need HelpLets try this? Might be a step backward but I’ll cross my fingers…
<a href="<?php echo $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->blogs->slug . '/create-a-blog">
<img src="<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/images/createblog.png" alt="Create a Blog" hspace="4" align="right" />

</a>Try
get_option('home')
In reply to: friends online widget plugin extensionLooks like you’ve got this one under control. I’m gonna green light it.
Thanks for your help!
In reply to: No Blog RegistrationNone at all. The blogs ability you can turn off and on as you’d like, even on a whim.
You’re exactly right. Turning off blog registration only disallows new blogs to be made when registering and by currently registered users. As a site admin you can still create new blogs and even assign blogs to individual users. The backend is still open to you, but not to other non-admins.
Well, if I understand correctly it certainly seems possible, considering its pretty much the way that WordPress installation goes.
You install WordPress and are provided a login (“admin”) and a randomized password.
If you’re looking for code to try to tap into, or an example of how to go about it, that would be where I would look first?
The next step in your theory would be to consider how to handle spam registrations in the event that user never sees the pw and never logs in to your website. Maybe take a look at the Register Plus plugin for WordPress.org to get some ideas also?
In reply to: External BlogsLooks like we’ve got a solution in the pipeline, so I’m marking this one as resolved.
I’m going to leave this topic open for discussion about the topic until the official plugin becomes available, in case there are feature requests, etc…
In reply to: my ideas to make buddypress betterThere is a BP Auths project in the works for after the 1.0 release. The scope of it is to do exactly what you speak of and more.

Some of those are good ideas that have already been added to the trac as enhancements. Others are already plugins by other authors, or could be potential plugins for later on.
I would say check out the BuddyPress roadmap, and search through some existing enhancement tickets and get a feel for what’s out there and what’s coming. If you think your ideas deserve to be an integrated part of BuddyPress, then add a ticket to the trac and the devs will take it into consideration for the future.
In reply to: How to access bp profile dataIn your code, you can do something like…
echo bp_get_field_data('Field Name', $user['id']);Where “Field Name” is the name of your custom field. Turn that into a variable or what not.
In reply to: Need help with Facebook Connect issuesAndy, until I am more familiar with the FBC plugin, I might have to resign this one to you.
In reply to: Widget Ajax Members Group ProblemIf this is still an issue for you all, I would recommend upgrading to the most recent trunk of BuddyPress and trying this one again.
The Permalink issue with using /%category%/ or /%postname%/ in the custom URL has been fixed for a few days now, and this was causing all sorts of grief for a few different areas; javascript references, avatars, functions.php, etc…
In reply to: Change blog Avatars?Still stuck for now. This is on the roadmap for after the 1.0 release. Everyone knows it isn’t beautiful, but since a blog image wasn’t part of WPMU, it’s pretty much just a placeholder for BuddyPress for now, to show that it is going to be a reality.
In reply to: Group forums not working? On a DV?Sorry to have abandoned this one, I’ve been sick the past two days and somehow missed coming back to it.

I will however mark this one as resolved! Not that I deserve the honors ha!
That is a good idea for a plugin.
Is this something you are recommending be included with BuddyPress, or that someone optionally make this for you?
If you want it to be part of BuddyPress, add it as an enhancement by using the Trac:
https://trac.buddypress.org/login
You can use your same login and password as for these forums.
Create a new ticket, and under type, select “enhancement.”
If you’d like someone to take this task on for you privately, you will want to explore being added to one of the development mailing lists (which I don’t have a link to right this second but will find for you shortly.)
In reply to: Avatar Cropping IssuesI’ve found that customized themes tend to be where the issues with avatar cropping start, and am guilty of this myself.
It usually comes from one of two things.
1. A JavaScript error in something you’ve tried to add is causing the JavaScript for the crop tool not to function.
2. Applying a CSS style to your theme that also ends up encompasing the crop tools position, so that it is out of the visible area of the photo container.
I think this using this as the default theme might confuse the purpose of the wire.
It’s a good idea to have something similar to this, but I think new users would relate more to a photo gallery type of layout than a twitter layout. Anyone familiar with Twitter doesn’t need help becoming comfortable with what’s going on.
Again, just my opinion.
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSFix for bb-config.php when using “deep integration”
How to currently, correctly include WordPress within bbPress and NOT throw a 404 in IE.
Add to beginning of bb-config.php:
if ( !defined('ABSPATH') & !defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST')) {
define('WP_USE_THEMES', false);
include_once( '/absolute/path/to/yourdomain.com/wp-blog-header.php' );
header("HTTP/1.1 200 OK");
header("Status: 200 All rosy");
}@Matt, I think that if it’s partially working, than chances are something is amiss somewhere. Are you using deep integration or no?
In reply to: I’m ignorant and i need help 🙂 ( Post related )Are you saying that you want the first page when viewing both areas to be the users individual blog? If so, I’m not sure you really want that.
Can you post up a URL to an example I can see?
In reply to: Embedding video on the main/first blogI actually modified the theme so that it doesn’t show an empty box if the stripped version is empty. I can’t find where I do that check though, and I’ve looked through bp-activity-widgets.php, bp-activity.php, and bp-activity-classes.php. I’m fairly certain I just check the length of activity and if it’s 0 or null, I don’t create the paragraph element.
NyQuil has my brain foggy today
In reply to: I GIVE UP.. wp-recaptcha WT%^&I may end up using this as my alternative to Akismet, so I’ll keep this in the back of my mind and revisit it on a more personal level soon.
