In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTS
./wordpress-mu-root-dirctory/whatever-you-want
Mine is at delsolownersclub.com/discussions/
You just need to make sure you reference that directory everyplace you need to within BuddyPress and bbPress to make sure they see each other.
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSBurt, no need… I got it working using your trick in the other topic… I posted my fix there also because I didn’t want to confuse my personal issue with others’ global successes…
Either way, it’s working 100% now… Perfectly.
Woo woo!
In reply to: Group forums not working? On a DV?SWEEET SUCCESSSSS!
Okay… For those of that might be using “deep integration” namely using your BuddyPress/MU functions in bbPress, at the time of this writing at the top of your bb-config.php file, put…
if ( !defined( 'ABSPATH' ) & !defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST')) {
include_once( 'absolute/path/to/your/wordpressmu-directory/wp-blog-header.php' );
}This way, it only tries to include the MU/BP functions if they haven’t already been defined and if it’s NOT a xmlrpc request!
DUH! Yay! Burt, haha you rule…
In reply to: Group forums not working? On a DV?Burt, I hope it’s okay to post this in this topic. I didn’t want to muck up the sticky so I figured this might be best?
I did your debug trick, and this is what I got out of it…

WAIT I know what it is! Maybe… When I try to access that file directly, I get a redeclare error, something to do with IXR_IntrospectionServer. My guess is this deep integration business is causing it to be included twice…
In reply to: Stupid programmer tricksI actually had a similar problem today when I was experimenting with jQuery for a clients website. I had changed an “a” anchor to a “p” paragraph, and forgot to change the closing tag.
EVERYTHING but IE totally handled it gracefully, and IE died on it. I was debugging it for 45 minutes before I ran it through a validator, ugh!
You know, I read through the code in your post so quickly I didn’t even notice the first time!
In reply to: Stupid programmer tricksLOL… That is a great story, and one that I’m sure many of us can totally relate to…
Bravo!
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSThe part I slam my head against is that it DID work, one time. It created the forum, remember that’s how I knew it appended “-forum” at the end of it. It hasn’t worked since that day… And I don’t know what I did… If anythng… Arg… Ha!
That’s a good post though… I’ll try your debugging method and see what I get out of it… Is there a sure-fire way to check if the bridge between the two apps is playing nice, say by echo’ing a value somewhere to see which directories it’s pointing to, etc?
In reply to: Turn of BP Home theme to usersYou’re quite welcome. Oh, and welcome to BuddyPress!
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSQuestion about step 1.
You say that the user has to be created on the “bbPress” side. Does this refer to a user that is registered through register.php via the forums? What if my forums were integrated from day 1 with WordPress? Is it okay to just use the “admin” keymaster account?
Question about permalinks and .htaccess.
I am using pretty permalinks on the bbPress side, and there is an .htaccess file on the root of the bbpress install folder. What would I want to look out for to prevent this from causing a problem?
Question about “deep integration”
I am currently including my wp-blog-header.php file inside my bb-config.php file. Will this cause conflicts?
Question about what to do if I swear I’ve followed the steps the way they are written and the ways everyone else has said, and it isn’t working.
In reply to: Albums – Update?I’ll second that.
In reply to: Turn of BP Home theme to usersActivate the theme per normal for the main website, or main blog of your website. Then, in Site Admin under themes, disable it. At that point it will stay enabled for your 1 blog, and no one else can choose it.
If you edit a blog specifically from the Blog menu in Site Admin, you can still optionally enable the BuddyPress Home theme if you’d like.
In reply to: Add Friend – not addingNot using WP Cache are you? If so, obviously delete files in cache?
I’ve also noticed some quirks with the jQuery versions. Make sure you’re using the .js file versions included with both BuddyPress and WPMU, as updating to the new versions available at the jQuery website seems to break things for me. Don’t ask how I know.
In reply to: Only one blog for userI could use this as well. Interested and hopeful for an easy answer.
In reply to: Community Blogs PluginSuggestion for this…
While that logged in user does have the ability to create a blog post, an administrator does not have the ability to create a blog post on their behalf because their name is not added to the authors list.
It would seem to me that this plugin hooks into the logged in users specific ability, versus the post forms allowances and permissions?
How difficult would it be to add this ability?
In reply to: BP Content Tags Project – Call For IdeasThat seems like the natural flow yo.
In reply to: bbpress profile integrates with bpI am using the “Post Counts Plus” plug in for bbPress in conjunction with the new Group Forums BuddyPress plug in, and they seem to play nice together to do what you’re asking about.
In reply to: BP Content Tags Project – Call For IdeasShouldn’t you belong to the group “Transformers ARE awesome?”

Which I mean, they are… The new movie left something to be desired, and Voltron was always better than Transformers, but that’s a little off topic for this convo…

I think, from what I gather, that what you’re really talking about are categorized group links, probably with similar relative content like the blogroll style links functionality already has, that can be approved or denied by a group moderator or administrator. Maybe call them Glinks? A new functionality for generating a link from a website to yours, via a mini app or from the group control panel, for content relative to the topic.
This could be further extended by allowing Glinks for tags, or blogs, or forum posts also… “The people viewing this *blog/tag/post* also thought these links were interesting…” kind of thing…
Make sense?
I hope that group creation isn’t rendered obsolete, quite the opposite actually. I am used to using groups for permission based structure, to allow one group of users to perform a task that others cannot, and vice versa. I hope that the groups functionality is expanded in further versions of *Press to allow for certain groups to moderate other groups, blogs, forums, etc… In a real life community, groups, users, and content naturally exist within some kind of hierarchy, otherwise it tends to become a mish-mash of conflicting content. This is basically why blogs allow for multiple categories and sub categories, for without that structure, it’s just a page full of random jibber jabber.
This holds true in the virtual world, where certain groups of individuals are held as a more credible source than others, some groups have rankings and attributes that allow some group members to be more valuable than others, etc…
Am I rambling now?
In reply to: Why a group blog would be nice…It could be me, but it looks like the zip file may be damaged or corrupted. Basically, I can’t open it.
In reply to: BP Content Tags Project – Call For IdeasI think this makes perfect sense, but I think the word “tag” needs to be used carefully, because WordPress has sort of defined the use of “tags and a “tag cloud” as a specific function, and this does not sound like that.
This just sounds like a collective list of links that the group can add things to, more like relative content than tags in my mind. Similar to the “blog this” part of WordPress that lets you be on any web page and via a bookmark, create a blog about it, this would allow members of a group to be on either 1.) a page/post/attachment within your site, or 2.) any site on the web, and add it as a relative link for your specific group.
Am I making sense, or going off in the wrong direction maybe?
In reply to: Comment Fields DisappearedThis is the offending code from the RC1 functions.php…
/* Catch specific URLs */
function bp_show_home_blog() {
global $bp, $query_string;
if ( $bp->current_component == HOME_BLOG_SLUG ) {
$pos = strpos( $query_string, 'pagename=' . HOME_BLOG_SLUG );
if ( $pos !== false )
$query_string = preg_replace( '/pagename=' . HOME_BLOG_SLUG . '/', '', $query_string );
query_posts($query_string);
$single_check = strpos( $query_string, '&name=' );
if ( $single_check === false )
bp_core_load_template( 'index', true );
else
bp_core_load_template( 'single', true );
}
}
add_action( 'wp', 'bp_show_home_blog', 2 );Try removing that and see if it comes back or what the effects are…
I was tackling this issue along with a few others at the time, and to be honest tracking down all of the quirks has me a bit lost and frazzled as to how exactly I fixed this one…
In reply to: How do you edit your users’ profile info?Can’t wait for this. It will definitely be a good addition to the rest of the plug ins.
In reply to: Comment Fields DisappearedHad the same problem. This was covered by Burt and myself a few days ago, but it comes down to the fact that everything in your install is fine, but not in your functions.php. The reason comments aren’t showing up is because it’s actually loading index.php instead of single.php.
If you copy the latest functions.php over from RC1 into your template, it should all come back to you. If you made any custom edits to that file, be sure to move them over of course.
In reply to: Screenshot – Buddypress Demo?!Looks like it must have just changed this afternoon. Before it had a picture of a mans blog, and now it’s a zoomed out fullscreen home page layout.
No it’s not, and I’m certainly not blaming this plugin because it’s doing exactly what it should. This is definitely just a misalignment on my end. Just need to figure out what. The forum was originally made from BuddyPress, so I wonder what I changed to cause it to stop working. I’ll figure it out today and report back.
In reply to: A newbie question about trunks@sgrunt, if you are lucky enough to be using a PC, download TortoiseSVN and install it. It’s a little unorthodox at first, but it will allow you to tap into the power of SVN, and export the files from the server right onto your computer into whatever directory you choose. Then you can just upload them with your favorite FTP program (I suggest SmartFTP myself) and you’re done!
