Sorry everyone for the delay… major force personal issues… hope soon (before next week) will post here the tutorial and the code. regards!
Hi everyone, sorry for the delay, I was on holidays. Tonight or tomorrow I’ll be adding the script and a tutorial. Regards!
Surprisingly and bizarrely I was able to solve this. I went to the admin panel, to xprofile fields section and changed the names back to the original “Base” and “Name” labels. Then saved changes. I found that way it worked again normally, all info that I changed editing the user’s profile were saved ok. Then I changed the labels again in the admin panel, to “Información principal” and “Nombre completo” and all kept working fine as if that bizarre bug never happend.
Well, that’s all, thanks!
In my case the full name data was actually deleted cause the field in the DB was empty. Maybe it happened in some upgrade I did, maybe some file of my installation didn’t properly upgraded. Anyway if you tell me it works I can try to find the bug on my one and only personal installation
Thanks a lot, boone!!!PS: my profile fields are changed to spanish names/labels. ie: “Full name” is “Nombre Completo” and so on… thanks
@boonegorges yes, please forgive me. I’m using BP 1.5 (the “definitive” version) and the last version of WordPress. Here’s the thing:
After editing the profile fields of a user and hitting the “save” button, an error shows telling that there was an error while saving the changes and if the fullname of the user was changed, it shows the username insted of the previous one.
(i.e: I set my fullname to “Boone Gorges” and hit “save”. Then the fullname field shows the value of “boongorges”).
Now checking my Database I see in “wp_users” -> boongorges I see that this fields and values… (among others):
|| user_login || boongorges
|| user_nicename || boongorges
|| user_url || (empty)
|| display_name || (empty)This was fixed on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/4939 but that worked on BP 1.5 beta 2 but now with the release of “Lombardi” it got back to the same problem.
Thanks for your help, very much
@boonebgorges Is there any known fix for this or some page were we could search for a solution? thx!
Whoa, Just updated to 1.5 current version and this issue started to happen again
I’ve checked and the file mentioned in https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/4939 is “updated”, some clues on where can the error be? Thanks!@Webbasica I accomplished that by using the MultiSite feature… each “fanpage” is a blog. When I started my community I studied Facebook Fan pages and concluded that they should not be able to send private messages to their fans, nor tag members on pictures nor make mentions ( @username). Therefore I opted for using “blogs” as fanpages, any business or brand or institution can create a blog and post things, entries, pictures, etc. They can have a king of profile, an about pre-set page and their activity wall is a page with almost no content and all comments! This works also grate if you’re using oEmbed plugin which allows you to paste youtube videos urls and it will be the same than embedding them… so I just think they’re perfect. Let me know if I can help you further… regards
Thanks! yey!

@boonebgorges I just added the changes shown on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/4939 and it worked JUST FINE!!!! thanks a lot, man, really! Excuse my ignorance but what is the repo url of this “more-fixed-version” of bp? so that I can checkout this and test “up-to-date”
thanks again!Hi! @boonebgorges thanks a lot for your help! I’m currently using bp tags_1.5-beta-2-4925 (downloaded the .zip file).
@foxly oops, my mistake, jet events seems to activate fine but the event creation system appears to be broken. I can see my “appointed to” events and else but not access the main creation page/list. sorry!
@foxly I can see in your spreadsheet that Jet Events System is listed as “fail” to work with BP 1.5, but I just tested it and it works fine for me
perhaps the tester forgot to click on “update database/templates” buttons? can you clarify this? thanks!I found what’s triggering the Issue. I had changed the names of the profile fields from the admin menu (which should not break this anyway
). Changed the Profile Field Group “Base” and the default input “Name” for “Info” and “Full Name” respectively. That broke the saving data system.Hope the core developers cant fix this, thanks!
@firetag said 1 month, 1 week ago:
@r-a-y yes it’s totally safe but in order to maintain forwards compatability with the plugin it’s best to only use on installations that currently don’t have any groups
If I eliminate the groups previously created and install this amazing plugin and then I re-create the groups, Will it still be “forwards compatible” or will be the same that if I never done anything? Thanks a lot!

Great! I’m going to try it on my proyect; I agree with many that somehow the “events” feature is a community activity booster

@smuda I totally agree with you, it just doesn’t look good if someone could go inside the “admin panel” of Facebook, for example (imagining such a thing exists
) it has nothing to do with your theme design, surely not customized, etc, etc. Even if they could not change any configuration (always talking of a social web with no “blogs for everyone” as is my case too).@etiviti (rich!)
Thanks for your help! I’ll try to apply that

@Paul Gibbs
I’ts fine, I understand, nevertheless I think this kind of questions/debates should be able to take place here since the people who asks are BP users and everything is related at some point. For example, WordPress gives us the admin panel and BP de “Social Layer” where one feature could be the “everything can be managed from the outside interface”… please don’t take this as a hard complaint
just my 2 cents
Gracias! el_terko, la verdad no me habÃa dado cuenta porque el sistema me dejaba comentar y por ahora no habÃa hecho más que eso
. Al final me tuve que crear un usuario nuevo, gracias por el aviso!
