Could be a theme issue. Change to bp-default theme and see if same behavior occurs.

Have you checked whether it is a plugin or theme conflict by deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and changing to bp-default theme?

At this stage, you would need to upgrade Multisite to Multinetwork via plugin. Rename plugins folder in server, then rename active WP theme so system will automatically change theme to twentyeleven theme.

Are you still on WP V.3.1.4 and Buddypress V1.2.8 or have you upgraded? Change to bp-default theme and see if same behavior applies.

wp-includes/registration.php has been deprecated since version WP 3.1. What WP/BP versions are you on then? Plugin or theme conflict. Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme.
