For the past 10 hours, the BuddyPress.org and bbPress.org codex sites have been the target of an automated spam attack, creating hundreds of pages, posts, and additional taxonomy terms.
This happened only because of our own wishes for our documentation sites to be an active and thriving representation of everything related to the software, and…[Read more]

If the theme vendors have chosen not to support BuddyPress (it really doesn’t take much effort — and you have to be doing something non-standard for BP’s default compatibility to not work), that’s disappointing to hear and I guess it means I won’t be recommending ab-themes. If the developers at ab-themes read this and you do want to get things…[Read more]

Henry Wright replied to the topic [Resolved] Fatal error activating BuddyPress in the forum Installing BuddyPress 10 years ago
Hi @worldholder
The fatal error indicates you’re declaring the
BP_XProfile_Field_Type_Datebox
class twice. For example, you’re declaring it once then on the second attempt, you get the fatal error. Your job is now to debug – to find out what may be causing it to be declared twice. As @mercime mentioned, a good place to start is to deactivate (and…[Read more] -

Thank you so much for the simple solve! I’m still learning CSS, so the overflow property was new to me. This is what I used for my specific theme, in case others run into trouble:
.post-content {
overflow: hidden;

@mercime thank you but that is a configuration of VVV with HHVM. Unless I’m missing something, it doesn’t answer my original question.

Thanks for the reply @mercime.
I have reinstalled BuddyPress but this made no difference. On closer inspection buddypress.js is only not loaded on the Activity page, it is loaded on all other pages (Groups, Members etc.). This issue occurs on any theme I use.

@mercime as mentioned in my original post I’m running locally using MAMP. I’ve done 3 clean installs first deleting then redownloading & installing both WordPress & BuddyPress.
Totally stumped & frustrated.

@mercime I’ve been having a little more of a dig around – if I look at the generated site code, the sign-up form has nothing set for the action attribute and I can’t find any JS script that would submit the form programmatically in place of that.
I’ve tested it out using invalid data and can confirm that it’s not reaching the signup validation…[Read more]

@mercime I was originally using the TwelveFourteen theme and it wasn’t working then. I couldn’t see the bp_default theme but I kept coming across advice that said I needed to be using the BuddyPress default theme – managed to find it in the plugin files. I’ve just now switched back to TwelveFourteen (to make double/triple sure) but it still…[Read more]

“Re: BP comment submission form looking great in Twenty Twelve.
It’s using the same stylesheet enqueued by BP. The difference is that the style is not being overridden by the theme’s styles.”(by @mercime on a thread with a bit of “topic overlap”)
thank you so much…so…that would mean that when the “breaks” BuddyPress styling, that it is lik…[Read more]
