@q5sys
1. Install bbPress plugin (sitewide forums)
2. There is a phpbb3 converter Read https://bbpress.org/forums/topic-tag/phpbb3/
2. Have conversion done.
3. Double-check/test that conversion to bbPress is seamless
4. Install BuddyPress.
5. Read https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/Also know that Group Forums (custom bbPress 1.0) will be merged/switched over to bbPress plugin 2+ (sitewide forums) come BP 1.7 or so.
In reply to: 1.6 Update Help – Pages@joshualedetnet Btw, did you run through the Update Wizard after you upgraded to BP 1.6? https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/
== the plugins should all work correctly as they did before the issue with the incompatible theme. Right? ==
It depends if the plugin is compatible with latest WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.6. I would stick with the bp-default theme while you activate the plugins batch by batch (after you’ve checked that they are compatible) and then change to a BP-compatible theme.
@oraclesoftruth You create the file bp-custom.php not bb-custom.php. Read how -> https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/
In reply to: avatar problems after updating to 1.6@smackmathew Your issue sounds similar to those who are using the Salutation theme. If so, there’s a theme upgrade available from the theme vendor. If not, what theme are you using?
== Is there a way to change themes and/or disable buddypress through ftp? ==
Yes. Just rename the folder of your active theme as in e.g. wp-content/themes/yourthemename-changeit and for plugins, just rename the whole plugin folder wp-content/plugins-renamed/ and then go to yoursite.com/wp-admin/
In reply to: How to change activation email text?If you’re only going to change that string, see http://blog.ftwr.co.uk/archives/2010/01/02/mangling-strings-for-fun-and-profit/
@mebo looks like you’ve fixed the alignment of the BP template file with your theme’s HTML structure in the second link.
== hide or remove the activity link in the buddypress drop-down menu ==
Which drop-down menu, where?
== where is that CSS living though? ==
You add those styles posted by karmatosed in the style.css file of your theme.
In reply to: How to add a profile link to navigation bar== Ok, I finally got the profile menu to work. How do i take out the dropdown menu? ==
Glad you finally got it working. What/which dropdown menu are you talking about specifically? In which theme and where is it located (header, sidebar, footer, etc.)?
== I want members to be able to create new blog sites on their accounts. ==
@oraclesoftruth And BuddyPress provides a form in the front end so that your users can create new blogs … if you have a multisite installation and you enabled blog creation.
== I configured it to activate on Blog “2? and not my Primary Network Blog, etc. ==
Just to be clear, did you add
`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, $blog_id );
`
where $blog_id is the Blog ID number of the secondary site. For example `define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 3);` in bp-custom.php per https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot add a new forum topic in groups@queenieb I test every install with bp-default theme before activating other plugins or adding new theme. I was going to check out the issues in your site but the username/pw you gave above is invalid
In reply to: Problems after update to 1.6== I seem to be having the problem of the “profile” link now showing up in all of my custom menus as well as links to all different profile links showing up next to the sidebar and in my footer. How can this be fixed? ==
Check if you’ve added a function to filter the wp_nav_menu in your theme’s functions.php file. If the filter is not targeted to one menu location, then it’s going to appear in all the custom menus registered for your site
In reply to: How to uninstalled buddypress completelyIn reply to: How to add a profile link to navigation bar@charlietech if you have custom menu enabled in Appearance > Menus and if it’s only a profile link you want and not the full set links found in the plugin, see https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/adding-dynamic-link-to-main-menu-item/#post-130679
In reply to: 1.6 Update Help – PagesHave you already gone through basic troubleshooting like deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and check if issue is resolved?
== BP does not appear in the menu, nor under the setting tab. ==
@nlmdep do you have a multisite installation? WP/BP versions? Is this is a new WP installation?
In reply to: [Resolved] Blog Pagination Solution?@fiq http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/creating-a-blog-page-with-paging/ be careful when you copy and paste from that page, `<` and `?` are separated by spaces which you should delete.
In reply to: Home Page Template?@fiq if you use home.php, create a blog page template as well for the blog page index http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/creating-a-blog-page-with-paging/
In reply to: CSS Repository@fiq feel free to create a child theme of the BP Default theme or a BP-aware WP theme and submit it to the WP Theme Repository https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/upload/ Let me know when you do and I’ll review your theme

In reply to: how to remove admin bar entirely from sitebp-custom.php file must be uploaded at wp-content/plugins/ folder https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/
In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot add a new forum topic in groups@queenieb You’re right. You can have both the sitewide forums and the group forums.
As for the issue/s you’re encountering, I read that Salutation theme [edit] has been updated for BP 1.6 https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/weird-characters-showing-instead-of-avatar-picture-on-top-bar-after-installing-1-6-update/?topic_page=2&num=15
In reply to: Home Page Template?@fiq whether you use the index.php or page.php to create a home.php file doesn’t matter as long as you keep the container divs within bounds of the HTML structure. Plus when you use home.php, a special WP template file, you don’t need to change the reading settings at all.
