In reply to: How do I set up my social networking site better
1. Before installing any plugin – BP or WP – double-check the compatibility of the plugin with the version of BP/WP you have installed. If the compatibility is not there and you choose to install the plugin, be prepared for errors and to tackle it. In other words, the safe bet for a novice is not to install plugins which are not compatible with your installation.
2. One way is via https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/s2member/ I recommend reading through the documentation http://www.primothemes.com/post/product/s2member-membership-plugin-with-paypal/
3. Something like this – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-my-login/ and redirect visitors who are not logged in to the login page
== it breaks smooth slider plugin and multi level Navigation plugin ==
It would help if you were more specific about which smooth slider plugin and which multilevel navigation plugin you are referring to. Are those the names of the plugins or the generic terms for such kinds of plugin?In reply to: Member List=== Is it possible to display complete details and add additional fields tabout the member including a photo? ===
Yes. The avatar upload will be the photo of the member.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/=== and I’d really not want them to be a member of WordPress. ===
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin that uses WP functions in many cases including being added in the wp_users table. If you don’t want the members to be WP “users” in the main site, go multisite and install BuddyPress in secondary blog.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/=== but the custom field box is nowhere to be found. ===
@candanosa While in your Post > Add New or Post > Edit panel, click down the “Screen Options” tab on the upper right hand area of the screen and check on Custom Fields. When you close the Screen Options tab, it will show up.@gunju2221 BuddyPress forums of course
However, the Speed theme is a free theme for BuddyPress which is a rarity at this time. So, if there’s a way to provide some support for it in a reasonable time frame and manner, I will
Sounds like a large image should be attached to post.
1. While either in the Post > Add New or Post > Edit panel in the backend, you need to upload an image with the WP media uploader that will be attached to your post.
2. When that pop-up box appears, click on Link button in middle of the panel to find the URL of that media, copy and save that URL.
3. Then just below the textarea where you posted, you’ll find the custom field box. If you don’t have a key “front_image” yet (in all probability, not), you will add the text front_image and save.
4. Since you’ve now registered the key, choose front_image from the dropdown and then paste the image link URL you got during media upload.
5. Click on Save. That should do it.Disclaimer: I have not used that theme. I don’t even know if it’s compatible with current BP/WP versions. But the way to add custom fields is correct

@Bowromir LOL, I had no doubts that you would be able to help Ross and conquer IE 7

You can add the following code in your theme’s functions.php
`<?php
/* http://blog.ftwr.co.uk/archives/2010/01/02/mangling-strings-for-fun-and-profit/ */
class PJW_Translation_Mangler {
function filter_gettext($translation, $text, $domain) {
$translations = &get_translations_for_domain( $domain );
if ( $text == ‘%s wrote a new blog post: %s’ ) {
return $translations->translate( ‘%s wrote: %s’ );
}
return $translation;
}
}
add_filter(‘gettext’, array(‘PJW_Translation_Mangler’, ‘filter_gettext’), 10, 4);?>
`@rossagrant since you bought the theme at bp-tricks.com, you should be able to get support from @Bowromir
@rossagrant you can see how your site is rendered in different IE versions via http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/
[ edit ] Some future-proof tricks to use with IE
1. Add `width` to any float, e.g.
`.navwrap {
float: right;
width: 475px;
}`2. Relative and Absolute Positioning, e.g.
`#header { position: relative; }
.navwrap {
position: absolute;
top: 5px;
left: 8px; // edit – ooops. should be –>> right:8px;
}`

Find resolution in WordPress.org Forums before installing BuddyPress
In reply to: [Resolved] Category Pages Go to White Screen.@Gayatriom Glad you resolved the issue.
@gunju2221 “.. but all is well now!”
In reply to: [Resolved] How to disable activity commentingWhichever method you use, Meini – r-a-y’s method is better
make sure you follow the folder structure of the file you copied from parent theme.e.g. for r-a-y’s method, the post-form.php should be in this structure in server:
wp-content/themes/yourChildThemefolder/activity/post-form.phpIn reply to: Advice1. You don’t require BuddyPress if you just want something like the photoblog site you linked to. You only need
a. The reflection theme http://xyloid.org/projects/reflection/
b. Yet Another Photoblog Plugin http://johannes.jarolim.com/blog/wordpress/yet-another-photoblog/
c. Allow user registration to your site – at least Contributor level – and instruct users on single image uploads only.If you still want to install BuddyPress, the three BuddyPress-compatible gallery/media plugins mentioned above can be configured to limit users to single image uploads at a time.
In reply to: [Resolved] Category Pages Go to White Screen.Some of things I would do:
– Deactivate all plugins and change theme to default twentyten theme. Clear cache. Run Settings > Permalinks and see if categories are working. Then activate theme and plugins one at a time to determine which one is causing the irregular behavior,
– Could also be that your theme’s archive or category template page has been corrupted. Re-upload the template file/s.In reply to: [Resolved] Category Pages Go to White Screen.WP/BP versions? Did you just upgrade to WP 3.1 and/or BP 1.2.8?
What theme are you using – custom BP theme, WP theme with BP template pack, or child theme of bp-default theme?
Need more info to troubleshoot.
In reply to: Trac login – does not workSuggestion: Log in WP.org forums. Add new topic about your issue because WP.org username and password should get you in BP/WP tracs. In right sidebar add tags “Modlook” and “Otto”. You’ll find out why this is happening or get issue resolved completely.
In reply to: Login error and WordPress login page=== Another plugin perhaps that could be styled so that the password recovery page could be made to look like the rest of the site? ===
There’s premium plugin http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-branded-login-plugin-for-your-buddypress-powered-site/
In reply to: Buddypress forums not working1. Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress.
2. Change theme to bp-default.
3. Install Forums – BuddyPress > Forums Setup > New Installation
4. Run Settings > Permalinks
5. Create new public Group and allow Forums
6. Create a new Topic and publish.
In reply to: can i integrate buddypress forum into my site?Yes you can. However, installing BuddyPress only for the forum feature alone is overkill if you’re not going use the social networking components of the plugin. The BuddyPress internal bbPress forums are associated to groups by default. I would suggest that you install a WP or WP-compatible forum plugin or software like:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/forum-server/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mingle-forum/
http://simple-press.com/
or integrate external bbPress plugin with your WordPress site.If you do intend to use BuddyPress components plus the forums, before you install and activate BuddyPress, you would need to make your WordPress theme compatible with BuddyPress via BP Template Pack plugin or by building a child theme of bp-default theme that comes with BuddyPress plugin first. If you are going the first theme route – BP template pack – then you could add the necessary link to your BP components including forums by adding the links listed in ul#nav seen here

In your new front page template are you sure that you registered your sidebar/s in your custom theme’s functions.php and did you add the necessary dynamic sidebar tags in your template file?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/dynamic_sidebarChange to bp-default theme and see if erratic behavior exists. If it’s corrected using bp-default theme, check out theme forum of @svenl77 and co. at http://themekraft.com/groups/custom-community/forum for solution/s.

Five stars!Do not worry about the compatibility warning. There’s something wrong with the processing of the plugin page somewhere @boonebgorges
In reply to: Advice1. Users join the site
Yes, whether you use BuddyPress or not.2. Ability to upload one image and other users comment on it.
– If you post an image in blog Post/Page – members can comment on the image if you enable comments.
– If you mean upload image via BuddyPress image plugin, then you should check out the free BP media plugins .
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/video-playlist-and-gallery-plugin/
I have only used BP Gallery (premium) and yes, you can comment on any single image, audio or video upload with this plugin.3. Friends and Followers
Yes. Friends is default install. Followers via BuddyPress Followers plugin4. Show recent uploads
Of images or media, right? In activity stream – not sure about the first two plugins; you have the option to show (or not) recent uploads in activity stream using BP Gallery.
In a sidebar widget or directory page – I believe all of the 3 mentioned plugins have this capability.In reply to: May implement a Town Index with buddypress.org?https://trac.buddypress.org/roadmap – need to fix active tickets first.
