Run Settings > Permalinks and set to other than default i.e. pretty permalinks is a must. Double-check WP configurations and if you have a problem there, resolve it in WordPress.org forums before installing BuddyPress.

https://wordpress.org/support/You do not move BuddyPress plugin folder/files around in your server at all. You can install BP in either of these two ways:
1. auto install via dashboard menu Plugins > Add New > BuddyPress then network activate. or
2. Upload buddypress plugin in wp-content/plugins/ folder in your server, then go to dashboard to activate BPAfter either #1 or #2 above, Install a BP-compatible theme like https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ and you’re good to go.
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin and not a separate application. BP shares the DB of your WordPress site. And yes, BuddyPress can be installed in single WordPress.
If you are using a custom BP theme, change to bp-default theme.
In reply to: login“and when I put the part of (what part of?) I lost language files without login and when I try to log it makes
nothing. “Something’s getting lost in translation. Do rephrase your question.
If you upgraded to WP 3.0.5 via dashboard auto upgrade, do a manual update via FTP or cPanel
https://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_UpdateAlso re widgets, WP Dev Andrew Nacin posted about that here http://wpdevel.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/if-your-menus-or-widgets-screens-broke/
In reply to: Theme and Log In page aren’t playing well togetherGo to Custom Community Theme forums – http://themekraft.com/forums/
Removing adminbar in blogs except where BP is installed – see this. Add opening `<?php` and replace BP_ROOT_BLOG with id # of blog where BP is installed.
In reply to: Not Able To Post Links or Forum Posts@poodyglitz first thing I’d do is to isolate what could be causing erratic behavior. Deactivate all plugins except BP and change theme to bp-default. Then check if you can now add links and forum posts. If that’s cool, then proceed to activate your theme, then plugins one by one while adding links and forum posts between each activation.
In reply to: Installing Themes and Activating ForumsDeactivate “Suffusion BuddyPress Pack” plugin if you haven’t yet.
Also, why did you have to “re-install” the bp-default folder into bp-themes folder, or do you mean you re-uploaded bp-default theme to wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/ ?@Bigjimmysisco I do not use the arras nor brownbuddy theme. I would rather roll out a bp-default child theme theme similar to Arras than take too much time to decipher all the theme’s intricacies, not that I’m going to at this time. The light at the end of the tunnel for you is that come BP 1.3, BP components will be rendered in regular Pages so hopefully lessen or eliminate any conflict.
In reply to: Activating Forums??Did you set up internal or external BP forums?
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/#forums-setupIn reply to: Installing Themes and Activating Forums1. If you install a WP theme, you need to install BP Template Pack plugin to integrate BP component magic into your WP theme.
2. Which BP theme was that and is that theme updated for current BP version?
Did you follow internal or external forums set up in this articlehttps://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/#forums-setupYup, use the same thing myself
In reply to: Issue with url sub blog in user navigation bar— Where i do install BP ? —
BP is Network Activate and the default install of BP is in main site. If you didn’t define BP in secondary blog in your wp-config.php, then BP should be in main site.
In reply to: Issue with url sub blog in user navigation bar— When i create a new blog, the navigation bar on sub blog has an bad url like: http://www.mysite/subblog/ —
It is normal = it’s not a “bad” URL. That’s exactly how it would be if you created a network with subdirectory structure when WP is installed in domain root.
— If user wants to go on his message there is this url http://www.mysite/subblog/members/mike/messages/
It’s normal ? —It is normal if you Install BP in secondary blog, i.e. other than the main site. If you installed BP in main site, the URL would show up as http://www.mysite.com/members/mike/messages/
In reply to: register.php? It’s in bp-default theme’s registration folder

2. See how it’s used in code given just before related posts section in this buddydev.com page and configure it to what you need
In reply to: word limits for posts1. It should work as the posts are WP functions
2. You would be adding the codes as seen here https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/content-and-excerpt-word-limit/installation/ into your active theme. Find instances of the_excerpt and the_content in your active theme’s files and replace that with code given above after you’ve activated the plugin.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_content
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_excerpt3. No, this would not work in BP activity wall.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to remove ’Active xyz hours ago’ ?How about just adding a one-liner at bottom of style.css file?
`span.activity { display: none; }`
— Please keep in mind I do NOT know the first thing about coding or php. —
If you know HTML/CSS, you can “fix” the layout. See walkthrough https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/In reply to: How to have super admin approve new blog sitesmu-plugins folder is for special plugins used sitewide — in WP multisite (nee WP Multi-User). You need to create a folder named “mu-plugins” in your server – wp-content/mu-plugins and upload the plugin there. And yes, it works in current WP/BP versions.
In reply to: word limits for postsIn reply to: Buddypress Registration page brokenWP/BP versions? Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme, clear cache – if register/submit button is working then it could very well be your custom theme.
