In reply to: Article Mod for BuddyPress or WordPress?
“I want to have many users, major emphasis on articles and basically block out all the rest.”
Single install of WP 3.0.1 and you[ don’t even need BuddyPress. You can even use the Mingle Forums plugin which doesn’t require the Mingle plugin or SimplePress Forum plugin. As for central profile area, you can create WP author template plus a WP page template coded to taste for list of authors and you’re done.In reply to: new user’s profile field messed up, help!@imjscn what BP/WP versions are you using? What are the labels/fields for the 2 profile fields which are exhibiting meaningless letters?
In reply to: 404 error after installing BPRe: “incurred hnla’s dismissal?”
Do not take things personally. @hnla has assisted hundreds of users in this forum and some questions were out of this world compared to your questions.Re: “Page Not Found” errors
– Change Settings > Permalinks to other than default.
– Activate bp-default theme to check links to BP components. When that works, insatll/create child theme of bp-default theme OR use the BP Template Pack if you want to use WP theme. In reply to: wordpress3.01???mu ,??buddypress???@Tolden Do post in the plugin’s forums

In reply to: I broke my site by disabling groups 🙁@ewebber glad you fixed it and seconding what DJPaul said, thank you for letting us know.
In reply to: Split members into admin defined caregories+1
In reply to: I broke my site by disabling groups 🙁Deactivate BuddyPress and BP Plugins, set Appearance to a regular WP theme.
Then go back and activate BuddyPress only, set Appearance to BP-compatible theme and go to frontend.@mdehart85 With WP 3.0.1 you can go mulisite in subdirectory mode then, as @pcwriter mentioned above, install BP in secondary blog. You can have different themes on each site.
If for your own reasons you still want the separate WP blogs using same database – read this. Make sure that both WP installs are working before installing BP in the 2nd WP install.
In reply to: Limit the size of user updates@latenitebooks plugin delayed because of another plugin.
There are non-plugin solutions which would involve manually adding javascript on relevant pages and code within respective forms. Also, If I’m not mistaken, the plugin I mentioned would be good for child themes of bp-default theme but would require some addition of template tags for non-bp-default themes.BuddyPress can only be installed in one site of your WP multisite. There’s no BPMU or BPMS at this time.
The plugin does not resolve the issue. It was my bad, as @hnla mentioned BP has checks to prevent duplicate usernames. The thing is, if the issue was brought about by what I mentioned above, then members should be taught to use @mentions with usernames instead of first names. Perhaps a plugin which shows a popup of “Franks” for member to choose from should be available to prevent breach of privacy.

@fsdasdfasdff no offense meant
let us know if the case of the duplicate Frank was caused by the error in @mentions. Cheers. In reply to: Dashboard problemBuddyPress works in single site mode. The only time you want multisite or network is if you want to allow your members to create blogs.
If that’s the case, deactivate BuddyPress. Then follow steps to create a network here – https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network. Then double-check your WordPress is working as it should before installing BuddyPress – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/
In reply to: The Buddypress album + no run correctly.@m4cgyver post in the plugin’s forums https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/forum/
Do you mean you cannot edit the WordPress theme from theme editor? Or that you revised your WP theme’s index.php, uploaded it to server and revisions do not show?
In reply to: bbPress ThemesIn reply to: Remove Activity Link From NavigationBuild Child theme of bp-default then copy header.php from bp-default theme into your child theme. Delete lines 51-55.
This plugin at bottom of post would help you – Creating a Buddypress/Wordpress Username availability checker for your site
You have more than one problem in your install unlike the singular issues posted above. Before blaming everything on BuddyPress, make sure you’ve got your WordPress working https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/. Where are you hosted? Single site or Multisite? BP/WP versions used?
In reply to: Is there a directory plug in for buddypress? There are Blogs, Forums, Members, and Groups Directories. What kind of directory are you looking for specifically?
In reply to: Registration not working@airrykah deactivate BuddyPress. It depends on your WordPress installation. Check if your install is sending out activation emails to those registering. Find resolution for your email problem at WordPress.org forums before activating BuddyPress.
If your WP activation email is working, deactivate any BP registration plugins and see if regular registration works.
Edit – there’s also a workaround, see if this works for you – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/faqs/specific-faqs/#register
