Codex is your friend. Check out the Slugs section among other tidbits in this page

Don’t they have support forums or contact form there where you could ask theme devs or community members who are using the theme whether any have made it work with BuddyPress or if the theme required some tweaks to make it work? I remember the time when users of Hybrid theme framework made it work with BuddyPress via communication in BP and Hybrid theme forums.
In reply to: Where are all my blogs?What @nahummadrid said – those blogs set to privacy settings “Allow visitors but not visible to Google” and above – if you’re using more privacy options plugin where you have three more privacy settings – won’t be seen in Blogs directory.
There is a learning curve. I recommend you start reading up and getting involved in BuddyPress and WordPress forums. Remember Google/search is your friend.

But no, it’s not possible yet. There are developer/s who might be rolling out plugin/s for BP in different multisites but probably not until after BP 1.3 stable is out.In reply to: Buddypress questions“Am I crazy to try to build a site on this foundation where I anticipate high levels of users? “
There’s nothing wrong with building a site on WP/BP, it all depends on your server. You could start with shared hosting, but once it gets to a certain number of sub-blogs (around 300 or so) you would need to go multiple DB and upgrade to dedicated hosting.“And, attached to the above, what is the difference between buddypress and buddypress MU?”
There’s only one BuddyPress plugin. And this plugin can be installed in either main site or one of sub-blogs at this time although you can enable multisite mode which is not the same as having several instances of BuddyPress in one installation. Perhaps you mean BuddyPress installed in WPMU, which as noted above works mainly in the main site or subsite.@rogercoathup I just checked their forums some weeks ago or so to look over simplepress as an alternative and found this post. I have not tested this as I opted to go with global forums. Other BP related topics in their forums as well.
In reply to: how to disable blog tab from menuSure, if you are not going to give free blogs/subblogs to members then just disable Blog Tracking component via Dashboard > BuddyPress > Component
In reply to: Here come the spammers!!!@foxly: And then there’s the whole issue of *where automattic is taking buddypress” and what they intend to do with it, now that they’ve taken Andy off as the lead developer.say what? .
EDIT – there you go again, editing your forum post. fortunately, i’ve got a screenshot of it.
In reply to: RESOLVED: Crazy WordPress question@BillboardFamily you’re welcome. Codex is your friend

In reply to: Seperate HOMEPAGE for users@jpsbhullar Cool
In reply to: Seperate HOMEPAGE for users@jpsbhullar if you want the site content to be seen by registered members only, then you could use either of these plugins https://buddypress.org/community/groups/s2member/ or https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/registered-users-only-2/
– there are also other methods, just input “members only” in Search form above.In reply to: RESOLVED: Crazy WordPress questionAt least two simple ways to get back control of your pages (change brackets to curlies in codes below):
A. delete [?php dp_list_pages(); ?] and replace it with [?php wp_page_menu( ‘exclude=5,53,75’ ); ?] in your header.php
then delete block of code in functions.php from # Displays a list of pages to ending curly of that block (just before you reach # Displays a list of categories)B. If you’re on WP 3.0, you could add wp 3.0 custom navigation menus
– replace [? php dp_list_pages(); ?] in header php and the block of code in functions.php mentioned in A with info per this articleIn reply to: RESOLVED: Crazy WordPress questionPost header.php and functions.php at http://wordpress.pastebin.com and place URL here. Methinks it’s customization of navigation links by theme author that’s preventing you from excluding pages.
If you can wait for BP 1.3, this version will render your BuddyPress components in regular WP Pages – which means it will use the page.php file you already have in your Urban Elements theme or a Page Template you could create using your theme’s structure. You would only need to copy some CSS from the bp-default theme and customize a little for presentation of the BP elements.

New install? BP version, WP 3.0?Assuming that you’re using a child theme of bp-default, the easiest and simplest way is adding the following in your child theme’s style.css:
body.groups div#sidebar { display: none }
body.groups div#content .padder { border-right: 0px; margin-right:0px; }“You can only update the groups you’re a member of.”
That’s the idea, one way to prevent spammers from messing with your group.Do you mean you want to allow anyone to post status updates even in private (by invitation only) groups or only in public groups?
In reply to: Backup Users on buddypress?@intimez – Per BP Roadmap – BP 1.4 Import/Export of all BuddyPress user data
– unless of course someone makes a plugin for that function beforehand
Even so, nothing beats database backupsIn reply to: Sidebar and footer don’t appearLooks like you fixed it already. Sidebar and footer for your Group Forums Directory showing up in FF and even in IE6.

@thebigbonanza – BuddyPress is overkill for what you want to do. This is what I’d suggest you do with your $700 per your notes above
1. Find a web development tool (free or nearly free) that will allow me to create and customize a social website that a dummy (me) can manage.
– Get a free account at WordPress.com, pay for upgrades to
a) get your own domain name pointed to your free WordPress.com account
b) get a premium theme installed (if you don’t like the offerings at WordPress.com)2. On this site, I’d like for visitors to be able to upload their own videos of them eating my pizza, talking about it, etc, comment on posts, vote for fave videos, and forward posts to their friends via email, FB or Twitter.
– You’re going to spend a lot more than $700 if you’re going to allow people to upload videos in your own server if you choose that route, and you will need to upgrade your plan again at WordPress.com to allow others to upload videos there at limited upload space at that.
I suggest that you ask your friends to upload videos at Youtube, Vimeo, etc and to send you the video URL. Post that URL to your wordpress.com and enable free Ratings and Poll systems, then add free widgets for Twitter et.al on your sidebar.3. I’d also like the site to prompt people to sign up for email alerts throughout the contest
– add free Subscription widget to sidebar as well so others can follow your blog.4. link to PJ’s online locator of PJ stores and online ordering system.
– Add link to PJ’s online locator in free Text Widget you can add to sidebarThere are free tutorials to manage that WordPress.com blog at http://wordpress.tv and there is free assistance at http://en.forums.wordpress.com/
Then after the Papa John’s contest in August, if you want to go full social networking with own server and move over all your posts in info from your free wordpress.com account, then go BuddyPress.
Good luck.
