In reply to: Auto-joining groups on creation
There’s a plugin which needs to be updated for BP 1.7. Not sure when that’s going to be. https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-auto-group-join/
In reply to: BuddyPress Notification@unknownterritory20 Best thing is to post at plugin dev’s site? Which of the two mentioned above are you referring to?
In reply to: [Resolved] change "primary" field title@caspergrimaldi I’ve changed/edited the Primary Field Name in two installations, one with custom BP Default Child theme and the other with Twenty Twenty Twelve theme and both are working fine. Try deactivating plugins one by one or batch by batch to check for conflict.
@bakelady 🙂 Thanks for posting about the conflict with the User Role Editor and private groups.
But I still need to find out why ‘contributors’ are not able to add blog posts and events
Contributors should be able to submit a post from the backend (wp-admin) but it will need Site/Super Admin to approve and publish the post.
In reply to: [Resolved] Notification "close" link is not working.@joe35 you’re welcome. In the meantime, marking this topic as resolved.
In reply to: [Resolved] Notification "close" link is not working.I followed the instructions … Buddypress now works flawlessly. All three problems I had were solved.
Music to my ears 🙂 Thank you for following instructions.
But the slider of the theme stopped working, as expected. .. To change somehow the version of the jquery that my theme uses isn’t an option?
There are alternatives to your slider which should work with current WP standards. Check out the ones updated in 2013 -> https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/slider
You need to make sure that your theme is updated to the latest WordPress version including jQuery, otherwise you’d be stuck in an old WordPress version which could be buggy and/or a security risk. In addition plugins, like BuddyPress and bbPress, use the latest jQuery version included in current WordPress, so if you use older version, things could get very bumpy.
To keep theme updated, install the Theme Check plugin and run it in Appearance > Theme Check with your theme. If you find any REQUIRED or WARNING results, you need to address that in your theme right away. RECOMMENDED results are just that, recommendations which you might want to address but not that important or necessary. Good luck.
@bakelady Error logs? If you change to Twenty Twelve theme or the BP Default theme, is the issue resolved?
In reply to: Login Redirect ProblemIn reply to: [Resolved] change "primary" field title@caspergrimaldi What theme are you using? Change to Twenty Twelve theme and check if the name has changed.
In reply to: Post-avatar upload redirect page has no stylingHaven’t seen that issue before. WP/BP versions? What theme are you using?
In reply to: How to recognize alternate page templates?@shirleyl 🙂 Marking this as resolved. Have a great weekend.
In reply to: How to install forum@patrykos360 BuddyPress Codex/Docs is your friend https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
In reply to: [Resolved] Notification "close" link is not working.@joe35 download a copy of your theme to your hard drive. Then revise the copy in server: remove the call to jquery 1.4.2 in either the header.php file or enqueued in the functions.php of the theme. Know that by doing this, some behaviors expected in the old theme might be affected, or they may not. Then test your theme with BuddyPress.
If this doesn’t work, then you might have to look for another WP theme which is updated for current WP 3.5.1 at the very least https://wordpress.org/themes/
In reply to: integrating BPI created the forums page and what happens is it first directs me to the forums page but immediately i am redirected to the home page
@theoptimystic Did you install sitewide and/or group forums? What’s in your Settings > Forums – Archive Slug – Forums Base? Is it “forums” like the page title “Forums” and the slug below the page title “forums”?
You could try to create a new Page titled Discussions and add the forums index shortcode then publish the page. Go Settings > Forums – Archive Slug – Forums Base and use discussions as the slug. Go to http://thinkwithyourheart.com/discussions/ and check if forums index page is working.
As for the registration page … If so I tried clicking that and it’s the same thing where it directs me to the home page.
That is default behavior when you go to the Register page while you’re still logged in. Log out first then visit the Register page.
In reply to: BuddyPress title shows linkIt shows up in both in the Profile page and the create group page, there is the title with the link and then sometime the title without the link.
@wordbuddypress You’re correct in discerning that the Create A Group button is not supposed to show in your Profile pages or anywhere else except the Group Directory page. Change to Twenty Twelve theme and check if issue is resolved. If it is, then something in your coding of your theme’s page.php is awry. You might want to check out the page.php file of Twenty Twelve to help you find some resolution.
In reply to: more buddypress.org 'server issues' ?@shanebp Thank you for your patience, ‘expert developer’ 😀
In reply to: BuddyPress title shows link@wordbuddypress from what BP version did you upgrade? What theme are you using?
RE: screenshot of a title
That is the “Create a Group” button that shows up beside the page title of the Groups Directory page, not exactly about the username you mentioned earlier. Could you clarify what you need to address in your post above? In reply to: [Resolved] Notification "close" link is not working.@joe35 your theme is using an older version jQuery 1.4.2 while BP is using jQuery 1.8.3. Note that upcoming WP 3.6 will be using jQuery 1.9.1
In reply to: [Resolved] change "primary" field title@caspergrimaldi missed that. You can edit the Name of “Name (Primary)(Required)” field by clicking on the Edit link of that field.
In reply to: more buddypress.org 'server issues' ?@modemlooper Working on a few things.

In reply to: How to recognize alternate page templates?@shirleyl open up your theme’s full-width page template and save as buddypress.php and upload this file to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/yourthemename/
Do the same for bbPress, create a new file bbpress.php from full-width theme template and upload same to theme folder in server.
Know that the full-width with apply to all BP and bbPress templates. If you want different layouts for each BP component, read this https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/a-quick-look-at-1-7-theme-compatibility/
In reply to: [Resolved] change "primary" field title@caspergrimaldi go to admin dashboard menu Users > Profile Fields
Click on Edit Group Link
change “Base” name to what you want
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/buddypress-components-and-features/extended-profiles/Easiest way, add this to your stylesheet
div.item-meta {
display: none !important;
}In reply to: There was a problem cropping your avatar. On my Server is the newest PHP Version.
@serververwaltung and what is your PHP version? Have you tried setting avatars using the BP Default theme to check whether it’s a theme JS/CSS issue? Do you see any other errors aside from what you posted? Have you tried deactivating plugins except BuddyPress to check for plugin conflict/s?
EDIT – Can you upload images in Posts > Add New and choose thumbnail image for example and insert it to post?In reply to: [Resolved] Only Admins can Accept Friends?@marjwyatt I know it’s FUNCTIONAL issue. If you cannot use “Add Friend” using Twenty Twelve which we tested with BP 1.7 Theme Compatibility (no BP Template Pack plugin needed), then there’s a conflict with a plugin. I think it could be the Wishlist Member plugin, because nothing in BP codes require members to be administrators to add/accept friends. To be sure, deactivate plugins batch by batch except BuddyPress to check which one is in conflict.
