LOL! so easy
In reply to: adding content to the 1.2 default theme homepageThanks Andy! It’s much easier to include different front page layouts via page templates when constructing themes. Like the classic themes widgetized homepage.
In reply to: adding content to the 1.2 default theme homepageyeah but in BP you can choose blog or activity. If you choose blog then you can go into reading and change the blog front page to a static page. It would be easier and more user friendly to have the static page option in the BP settings.
In reply to: Buddypress iPhone themeIt’s a theme that mimics a native app
In reply to: adding content to the 1.2 default theme homepage@Andy cant you just add the option to choose a static page on the page you have set up too choose blog or activity?
In reply to: PollDaddy + BuddyPress ?polldaddy has a WP plugin but its for the blog not the social side.
In reply to: Removing "members" slug from user linksIn reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.2.1 releasedcan this plugin handle photos as well? Or is it going to?
In reply to: Index page modification????I think people get confused and think BP is a normal plugin that you activate and its pretty much the same site as before. Thats not the case. If you turn on BP then you pretty much are creating a new type of site.
In 1.2 changing the from page is easy.
In reply to: adding content to the 1.2 default theme homepageChoose blog page in BP settings then in the admin sidebar settings >> reading choose a static front page then you can do page templates to anything you want.
I think the BP setting should allow to choose static pages for the front as well as blog or activities.
In reply to: Bug in Default Theme – Admin/Settings/ReadingI had this problem. If you choose to use a static page as front and then use another page as the blog it wont show the blog posts when you go to url.com/blog I had to name the blog page something else.
Never mind I’m having a brain fart. I forgot to comment out css header >.<
This isn’t working anymore. Made a folder in themes and put a style.css file with info below. Activated theme in admin. Site has no styling.
Template: bp-default
@import url( http://url.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/style.css );
In reply to: mobile theme for buddypress?wp-touch is for a blog not BP. You would have to convert all the BP files to a mobile format. I’m waiting for new theme to be released before making a mobile version.
It will be based on one of the dev kits, iWebkit or iUI. so it will look like a native app.
In reply to: Photo Albums…. omfg!!Premium well made plugins and themes deserve to be paid for. Some people actually do this for a living.
In reply to: [Resolved] Change default view in profile (BP 1.2)|| !bp_current_component()
I think you should move that to blogs.
In reply to: Twitter Connect… Anybody? It would def hav to be one plugin with connect options. ‘Buddypress Connect’
You install plug in and then choose which connects you’d like to use. When user signs up it gives connect options to use. I’ve seen it done on other sites where you input your email and it maps both connects to an email or user id.
In reply to: Who understands deviantart?ha ha I know. It just came off like they suggested don’t even bother trying to compete. Competition is good for google even if you are small time. Twitter has a VERY small percentage of users compared to google yet google is worried about Twitters real time search. hmm seem you can compete with a giant.
In reply to: Who understands deviantart?Seeing how big (in users and content) deviantArt is and how “easy” it is to use, I would give up on making such a website. Even if you come with a better concept or a better UI, they’ll notice you and build their own even better. It’s a war you cannot win. Just like it’s impossible for Bing to ever beat Google.
That has got to be the worst advice I’ve ever heard. So basically people should just give up there sites as somebody has already done it?
Better advice is don’t reinvent the wheel. Sure nobody will use another search engine but they may use a search engine for a certain topic.
Apple will never beat out windows and they don’t care too. They offer something premium. User Experience.
In reply to: Who understands deviantart?@neverhurry http://www.colourlovers.com/
Also check this site. http://rideoregonride.com It’s on BP yet has used it in a completely different way than the basic install.
In reply to: Twitter Connect… Anybody? What i’ve found is Twitter connect is not as important as FB connect for profile creation. More people have a FB. People who have a twitter most likely have a FB so you can get them to use the FB connect as easily as Twitter Connect.
In reply to: Who understands deviantart?I would say you could create something better than DeviantArt. I love the site but its kinda clunky in UI. What is it really if you break it down? Profiles with ability to display content. you can do that with WPMU user blogs via custom themes and plugins or DEV the whole front of BP to mimic the functionality of DA.
In reply to: Twitter Connect… Anybody?Problem is that these connects will be separate causing conflicts. If you connect with FB and then Twitter you will have two profiles.
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?@DJPaul writing a check now! LOL
Downloading and testing plug in

oh and this statement:
“I think BuddyPress will be different things to different people… including the developers”
Is very true as bp is a a plug in architecture
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.2-RC1 now availableI hear ya I was testing to see if it would only be theming issues but I think there are others. I’m finding that most of the bp plugins will have to be completely re-written to accommodate the current trunk.

A suggestion for this plug in is to make it similar to the way you add content to the activity streams on facebook.
The new default bp theme is very micro-blog / facebook feed and could use some media post capabilities.
